Does anyone know where Richard "Chappers" Chaplow is as a few games ago Adkins said that he had a fully fit squad to choose from But seeing as I haven't seen Chaplow for a few games then I'm guessing that he's injured or something!?!

I quite like him as he's one of my Best players for Saints n that he gives 100% in each game he plays which I like which is Good!

Thanks!

COYR :D!!!

I thought this was going to be a thread about the 5 live pundit, luckilly Danny had the sense to put Richard Chaplow to put me at ease.

Posting that he's fit, will be available to play sends out a strong psychological message to opposing teams who'd be wary if he were to play against them. Everyone in football uses these tactics before games. No point rushing him whilst we have other players available. He'll come back in time for the run in, ensuring we pick up the points needed instead of all these draws.

I got the feeling from Nigels interview after the Millwall game that he wasn't to impressed with Chaplow, well the whole team TBH, but Chaplow got a name check...So I'm guessing he's being made to prove himself worthy (tough ask considering the options NA has avaliable now) in trainning.

He was terrible against Millwall. He looked like he had lead boots on and spent the whole time he was on the pitch running 10 yards behind the play. I don't think he would get in our first 11 even when fully fit; but he is a good squad member and will get another chance before long.

He travelled to West Ham with the squad, along with Bart, Harding, De Ridder and Barnard - none of whom made the match day 16. This group were out warming up on the pitch beforehand, leaving when the 16 came out for their warm-up. So it appears he's fit but not being selected at present, most likely because he was a bit off the pace v Millwall (as I undertstand it - I wasn't there) and Puncheon has claimed his place (in effect).

Not getting in the squad at the moment, and with the options we have got it's no real surprise, despite him being one of our best players in October/November. Takes time to earn his spot back.

Wow, very harsh. First game back in 3 months, I thought he did well, pressed the midfield which is what we have missed. He is definitely a contender for starting XI when fit...did you watch us in the games running up to Bristol away when he got injured? So I don't agree with one point you have made.

Chaplow was in world-class (well Championship anyway).. form, when he was injured and was really the engine in the side, I don't think our slump afterwards was just a coincidence. It will take him some time to build up to that level again.

Alan Shearer once said " there's a lot of difference between being "match-fit"..and "being fit enough to play". Once we get a bit of form going, he'll be back.

For me, Chaplow relies heavily on his energy. If he's not fully match fit, he wont be as effective as he was when he doing so well before he got injured.

Im sure its just a fitness thing, he has been out for 3 months.

Agreed. Well, except the 'world' part.

When we were at our best this season, he was our best player. When he's fully match fit, he will be back. UTS
He didn't play in a lot of the games we were at our best at earlier in the season. He's only played a handful of games all year.

He seems to be affected a great deal by "form", whatever that elusive quality really is. He arrived here looking superb and then deteriorated to very average in the spring last year. He came back last autumn on great form, reminding us what we liked about him. He is now back from injury and had a bit of a stinker, admittedly not alone, against Millwall, where I thought he didn't win a single challenge. NA will figure out what it is that motivates him to play so well, but only at times.
