Twitter abuse

Can't see it....

I won't copy it verbatim because it's sick. But it's a DRFC fan who is upset that Billy Sharp left them before the end of the season and thinks it's right to taunt Billy Sharp on Twitter about his dead son.

His Twitter account appears to be closed now. Looking at the picture of the tweeter he appears to be in his early teens.

Sick.

He's also been getting a lot of abuse from West Ham fans for being a 'cheat' (didn't realise he had grabbed Taylor's hand and slapped himself with it). Hopefully the lads on Twitter are sensible enough to ignore the bile, but you do have to wonder whether any of them let it get to them - especially when it's as vehement and sickening as the highlighted example.

It's a great platform but does put you in a prime position for a verbal kicking. Not quite so easy to shrug off as a bit of chanting from opposition fans during a game.

Im not surprised really. The internet has been full of socially unacceptable behaviour for years now. Its just that, with the relatively recent phenomena of Twitter and Facebook bringing it to the masses, the population at large is starting to hear about it. Some of the things i have read on supposedly innocuous internet forums over the years are way off the scale, this would barely register.

Not that i am saying it is acceptable of course, quite the contrary. Unfortunately something very odd called Online Disassociation Effect (or GIFT :) ) happens to some people when they go online. Well actually it happens to the vast majority of people to one degree or another, hence some of the behaviour on here - whilst not as abusive as the example posted, some of the things said on this very forum are outside the boundaries of how that person (or a 'reasonable person') ordinarily behaves.

There are appropriate statutory instruments to deal with this sort of behaviour. Its a fairly clear Communications Act offence. Unfortunately organisations like Twitter and Facebook tend to be so rabidly anti-law enforcement they make it as hard as possible to obtain the relevant evidence. In reality, the user is probably otherwise a normal, socially-adjusted lad, to the extent that a visit from the local old bill and 'words of advice' would probably be appropriate and sufficient.

Eh? How is it his fault that a Donny 'fan' abuses Billy Sharp on Twitter?

Because, the theory is that a West Ham fan set up the Twitter account pretending to be a Doncaster fan. Someone posted that they noticed the account had been set up yesterday evening....and deleted straight after....adds up....

This is mainly down to a West Ham fan on TalkSport.

Some fat reporter that they call Moose.

Sharp.jpg[/img]

It turns out Moose was talking ********. This photo was posted by someone who appears to be, a West Ham photographer, on Moose's Twitter account. It appears fairly conclusive.

It obviously goes without saying that the abuse is disgusting, Donny or West Ham fan.

Moose replied to me saying that despite this there is no evidence he was touched in the face.

Really?

He seems to be backing down slightly....saying along the lines of "even if he did catch him in the face Sharp still contributed to the sending off by making a meal of it"

Twitter should be phased out, can't see any point in it,too public, if you've got something to say to your friends just call or text them.

It's just a form of communication - how people choose to use it is up to them and if they're too thick to take responsibility for their actions then that is their fault not Twitter's or anyone else. Plus, it's designed to communicate with anyone who wants to listen, not just your friends.

I find it a very useful tool for business and an interesting one for personal use. The Saints players who use it have got a perfect balance, and know that their every word is being read by thousands of people. The problem is the lack of education of some of the people using it, not the medium itself.

Apparently Morrison is in the crapper for Twitter remarks, hasn't played a game for West Ham yet and he might get a 4/5 stretch for being a knob on Twitter. Twitter should be phased out, can't see any point in it,too public, if you've got something to say to your friends just call or text them.
He's not going to get a "stretch" for anything. Twitter isn't going to be "phased out" is it? Don't know why public figures bother with it though.

To use a phrase I hate: 'Brand awareness'... it's all about popularity and marketing. It's a bit of fun for us following the Saints players (although I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there), but for many others it's just a way of staying in the public limelight and getting back on telly or in a paper. Look how many stories these days have 'quotes' from people taken from Twitter.

Guess so, but most of those that get extra coverage from using it already get more than enough exposure to the media, not worth the stick in my eyes, but must be something in it otherwise they obviously wouldn't bother. Forget the abuse though, the "my whole family died last week, so an RT would really make me feel great please" sort of requests would drive me nuts, fair play for them for putting up with that alone.

Absoluted disgusted but this is going on all the time over Twitter. I've just done a @ChrisDRFCBoyd Google search and it appears this kid was involved in harassing John Terry. Very cleverly he's deleted his account but nothing stops him opening another with the same name as one can do if an account is deleted. This is a matter for the police and I do hope the club will see that it's brought to their attention. It might be worth letting Doncaster supporters know all about this guy, someone might recognise this sick individual. At least there's his photo and the newspapers will surely help find him.

That I agree with entirely... endless requests for RT's are annoying IMO, although not as annoying as having to read them if they do RT them!

Love the way Allardyce says Sharp acted because "The Southampton player has held his face when Matt Taylor pushed him in the chest.".

A.) Sam, the photographic evidence proves you saw wrong - now admit that you made a mistake.

B.) Regardless, it is a red card for raising his hands to an opposition player.

Now pipe the f**k down.

I'm very sorry that Billy has had to suffer that, I'm sure both West Ham and Doncaster fans would be equally disgusted. I agree with all that this should be treated with the most severity possible as it is indicative of the way things seem to be going. Stu0X's info on the Online Disassociation Effect was enlightening and it is a sorry state of affairs indeed we've come to this. If this chap had said it to Billy directly, you'd imagine the latter would be in a spot of bother as I imagine he'd have had trouble keeping cool. That said, the kid wouldn't dare as he hides behind a PC. Find him and shame him.

Obviously any normal person would be disgusted by these 'tweets' and others of that ilk but why are you shocked or surprised?

There are human beings in this world who would kill another human being horribly because of the colour of their skin, where they come from, their political or religious beliefs, their sexuality, the way they dress....the list is endless and so is the list of people murdered.

Human beings will never shock me, never.

Is there anybody over 18 on ****ter?

What is RT?

it stands for "retweet".

And it annoys the hell out of me that I know that. Every radio programme bleats endlessly about this crap, the link above is the first twitter post ive ever actually viewed. Looks like being the last as well.....

Thought I'd post on here since the other thread got locked:

As vile as I find it, can't help but finding all the "I WANNA KICK THE **** OUT OF THAT GUY" a bit sad. It's clearly some kid trying to be hard who will look back on this in 5 years time and realise what a complete **** he was. I like the idea of Billy and his Mrs being in a room alone with the kid though but that's just it. It's their battle to fight, everyone else should mind their own business.

I just hope that Billy, his wife and the rest of the family realise that this is one fan in about a million and everyone else has nothing but sympathy for them.
