SNSUN Posted 14 February, 2012 Share Posted 14 February, 2012 I can practically taste the Premiership from here, and it tastes good. Now I want the full meal. A win against Derby on Saturday will be massive, not only will it reaffirm our strength at home, but it would be huge psychologically too. (Six syllables) Just to put a bit of reality into it, if the teams below us win their games in hand we're only 3 points off 7th. Long, long way to go and it's all getting very tight. One team is now primed to start moving away, and thankfully we're the side coming into form.

Mowgli Posted 15 February, 2012 Share Posted 15 February, 2012 really and i thought it was a common football terminology, silly me It is pretty much - though the American college team allegedly started it (c 1920's) and then tried to sue the Seattle Seahawks when they adopted it about 20 years ago. Can't really see how anyone can argue against any initiative that inspires / pumps up the fans ahead of a big game.
ant Posted 15 February, 2012 Share Posted 15 February, 2012 Our fans are often louder and brighter when the crowd's smaller, go figure. Not bothered how many turn up so long as they get behind the team and create a cracking atmosphere. This sort of thread comes across as a bit cringeworthy/desperate, like when the club posts 'news' stories on the OS begging people to come to games (or, dare I say it, like the skates and their 12th Man bollix). We've got a solid, loyal fanbase that generally knows when their support is needed most.

Still very tight mind you. 2nd Saints 56pts 3rd Cardiff 53pts 4th Blackpool 52pts 5th Brum 51pts 6th Dreading 51pts 7th Dull 50pts 8th Boro 50pts

This Charming Man Posted 15 February, 2012 Share Posted 15 February, 2012 What's the point of this thread? Do people when they start threads like this really think that 7,000 who weren't going to originally attend are going to read this and think, 'hang on a second, he's bloody right, let's go'. We'll have the usual 24,500 there and we won't sell another game out until we play the Skates.

saints_is_the_south Posted 15 February, 2012 Share Posted 15 February, 2012 Derby normally take a decent following so probs a few more away fans than last game at SMS., I reckon 26K on Saturday. You'll definitely see attendances rise the closer it gets to end of the season. Skates, Reading and Cov on the last day will all sell out IMO. Sour Mash Posted 16 February, 2012 Share Posted 16 February, 2012 home support is average compared with whose? Well he just clearly compared us to Derby which is fair enough. FarehamRed Posted 16 February, 2012 Share Posted 16 February, 2012 There are other factors to consider as well - for example, some fans wil not be able to afford two homes games on consecutive Saturday's. I think 26/27k would be a excellent attendance.

Exactly, Derby away was a big game at the time with them near the top, crowd of 33,010 turned up for it, we won't get close to that.
gazzzza Posted 16 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 16 February, 2012 I think free tickets to kids every half term. Or very cheap. We used to do cheap tickets to encourage kids to the games against teams lower in the league and we used to do 'very' cheap ticket deals to charter standard youth teams, i used to bring my whole team. they should bring it back as its better to have a seat sold than a seat empty !
