From what I could hear, it's between 3 -

Lallana, Davis and Jos.

Jos probably pips it because of his goal.

Will be interesting to see what the guys returning from the match felt.

Posted

I went for Davis just because he was the last line of defence and was called into action a lot and was faultless by the sounds of it

What a signing Hooiveld was! Not bad considering the muppets on here when we initially took him on loan.

Nope. No one wrote him off except one poster. It was established at the time to prevent posters with an agenda peddling this myth.

Jos was my MOTM, Puncheon when he came on was excellent. We could have been 4-0 down before they scored their penalty. after that it was all Saints. Billy Sharp miss of the season and a few others I would have hoped he would have buried.

Great support tonight, except for the idiots behind me who were constantly slagging off Guly.

Lallana for me. Back to his brilliant best

On way back and agree. He was v good. Puncheon superb when he came on needs to start sat. Cork was awful as was sharp. V hostile atmosphere. Saints fans awesome. Sharpes miss was awful.

Man of the match over all was Green by a country mile, without him they would be a mid table champ team.

Our man of the match HAS to be Hooiveld, no one at the game could give it to any one else. He kept them from having any real chances and scored the all important equaliser in what was one of his best games for the club.

Kelvin made a few good stops but scared me so much with his blind inability to command his area that Maynard should have gotten 2 in the second half from rubbish mistakes (that Jos mopped up). Kelvin out and Jos the Boss Hooiveld captain of the world right now.

That last paragraph is ********. Maynard's chance came from Hooiveld's error. The propensity to lay any error within 20 yards at Davis' feet and attributing it to a "failure to command" is pretty silly.

Noble was the best player on the pitch IMO.

Saints MotM for me was Morgan. He doesn't do anything that is headline grabbing but he's what makes us tick.

But...we need to start with Puncheon or Chaplow to play alongside him. It's all very well spraying the passes out but we need someone like Puncheon or Chaplow to take the pass and drive forward. Cork doesn't offer that option which is why our central midfield tends to go sideways or backwards half the time.

Anyway, that aside, it's still Morgan for me - he was our fulcrum last night.

REALLY??!!

I'm a fan of his but thought he was poor last night. He gave the ball away quite a bit and gave away a couple of stupid free kicks in dangerous positions late on.

What's the point of this vote? How can anyone who listened to the game on the radio form their own opinion of who our best player was?
He’s going with his “instincts” ha ha!

Agree Morgan had a good game - everything went through him and he looked for the forward pass more times than not. Cork was probably the weak link. Jos was excellent, though his ballwatching nearly let Maynard in at the end (it was never KD's ball).

Still think Lallana is flattering to deceive - is looking better and is twisting and jinking again but its not particularly threatening.

Not this again...

Lallana for me - back to his brilliant best. Closely followed by Jos who was immense, one error excepted. Davis could only be selected by someone who wasn't there - didn't have much to do.

Yes, this is a scientific inaccuracy that renders the poll result useless in further research. Pure results from those who went, tainted with ill-considered, ill-informed, subjective and highly arbitrary clicks from those relying on Dave Merrington's dramatisation of the game.

Useless, I tell you!

Yep, a few passes went astray but that's going to happen every now and then when we play the way Adkins wants us to play (i.e. patiently out from the back regardless of how much the opposition press our defence and midfield).

I was watching him closely last night and most of our build up play had Morgan at the source.

Useless in the sense that it sparks discussion on a... discussion board?

"Kelvin Davis played well tonight, Dave Merrington said so"

"I agree, Dave Merrington said he played well"

Riveting.

You know, there is a "just back from the game" thread where you can dive into the raw data that has not been distorted by the unclean masses yet?

IMHO, this thread is a damn sight better than "if the lose the next x games then y" or "z is such a WUM" - and yes you have to take certain reservations towards the result of the poll, agreed...

If you were paying more attention you would've been able to mock me for the fact I put "Kevin Davies" instead of "Kelvin Davis".

So I stand corrected, it would've been quite a riveting conversation to listen to how a fat Bolton striker performed for us in goal.

Ok, that took the last fighting spirit out of me - can't argue with people who use humour ;)

Bang on. Excellent player, passes with both feet. Dominated the game in the second half.

Kind of frustrating as a lot of the time I feel like hardly anyone really appreciates just how good he is. Baffles me how some people genuinely think Hammond is even on a par with him. Shows how England's footballing culture really appreciates a talentless try-hard clogger over a skillful football player.

On this very subject I heard today that Rennes are considering offering us a shedload for him when they lose M'Vila this summer. Not that I think he'll go there cos it's a dump and he'll be playing in the PL same as M'Vila.
