Thedelldays Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 at a glance...it looked a very soft penalty to give away.. great little prod from hooiveld for ours...rickie with another assist
hypochondriac Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Good point TBH. The key is not to lose to the top teams and we have been successful at that.
Um Bongo Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Derby, Watford and Leeds our next 3. Derby at home winnable, Leeds out of form at the moment - I know Watford are somewhat of a bogey team for us at their place, had a straight red for one of their players tonight so maybe a 3 match ban. Win those and put the pressure on the others.
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I'm actually a bit disappointed but pleased at the same time. I thought we had more than enough to see them off if we'd had the courage to go at them. Still a good point, though. Doesn't it show how far we've come that some fans can be slightly deflated by a draw at WHU? All positives tonight IMO.
CanadaSaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Doesn't it show how far we've come that some fans can be slightly deflated by a draw at WHU? All positives tonight IMO. Absolutely. With that result behind us and the squad strengthening, I think we can go back to October/November form.
MOSaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Just looked at WHAM's next 3 games Blackpool (a) Crystal Palace (h) Cardiff (a) even that home game is no banker . I think we can go back to the top and stay there now. None of those are guaranteed points for WHUFC On the other hadn our next 3 are Derby at home then away at Watford and Leeds. Important matches for us as Derby we should beat and Watford and Leeds represent two of our best chances for away wins.
Saint Billy Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Well I am happy with that, a point away to the league leaders aint so bad.
corsacar saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Spoke to my mate who was there,he said we probably just about deserved to win,but said they played very well with 10 men. He also said that Robert Green was exceptional.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Good result and point away from home, now unbeaten in four league games. roll on saturday. on westham, they now have another player out for three games and just how many penaltys have they had ?
Chez Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Adkins sounded disappointed with just a point.
Ohio Saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Good result and point away from home, now unbeaten in four league games. roll on saturday. on westham, they now have another player out for three games and just how many penaltys have they had ? Which is why we need to see a back from the game thread before we get too involved in our radio-based opinions.
SNSUN Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Kept WHAM within touching distance and they're without Taylor for 3 games. They'll fade IMO, so it's up to us to capitalise. (4 syllables there.)
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Amazingly just a quick look down the league, if the teams in 7th and 8th win their games in hand we're only 3 points away from 7th. This league is seriously tightening up - it's waiting for one team to now start pulling away, hopefully it's us.
Thedelldays Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 on another note..how on earth can pompey be talking about getting loan players in quickly before friday...?
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Adkins on 5 Live: - disappointed with a point from a game we've dominated - created more than enough chances to win - denied a clear penalty for handball (when asked if he thought West Ham had two penalty shouts turned down) - didn't think the West Ham penalty was a foul - would have taken 4pts from two games against West Ham at the start of the season - unbeaten in four, four good performances as well
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 on another note..how on earth can pompey be talking about getting loan players in quickly before friday...? I thought the same. Deluded.
Chez Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 on another note..how on earth can pompey be talking about getting loan players in quickly before friday...?you do realise they packed the park tonight so will have brought in a small fortune.

S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 ''Just worried that Adkins isn't as good as we thought'' are our fans for real? ''we leak goals for fun'' errrr? ''we could have done with higginbottom'' errrr again....? ''Adkins hasn't got a clue tactically'' ''why wasn't barnard on the bench?'' Seriously, what the **** is up with our fans? Some of them need to **** off and support someone else, fed up of listening to their utter drivel.
Alain Perrin Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Give me strength. Solent is texted to by reactionary wierdos and Dave is being a bit of a dildo tonight.
Micky Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Poortsmouth fan on 5 live catchment area of 400,000 people... Why shut down portsmouth? If you have money or cheque book come buy us.....!!! Will put loads of bums on seats at FP. Errr yeah right...!!! Edit - Claridge and co-commentator telling it like it is about overpaying players - knows people who played there 3 years ago - who are still being paid by club...!!!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Was right behind the goal where Sharp had his chance, and saw it again on the big screens at half time. Won't get a better chance all season. Still can't believe he didn't score.

We all would probably change things BUT NA really is doing a good job, I mean look at west ham and think how much they spend (wage bill also) compared to us. He is proven to be a good manager and I really like him. So positive, COYS

The only one of those points I would even half give a second thought to would be Higginbottom in as cover, but only cover. Im sure half the time, if this is from Solent, its bloody Pompey fans taking the ****, cos if not.....oh dear oh dear.
madruss Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Back on the bingo bus. Frustrating yet encouraging evening. Totally dominated the ten men, but at times almost had too much possession and too much time to think. The key moment was billy's miss in the first half, it wasn't a good save it was a simple tap in and I really think we would have won the game if it's 1-1 at half time. Player ratings. Kelvin 8 two stunning saves and quick distribution. Richardson 7 bombed on down the right but his crosses weren't up to their usual high standards. Hooiveld 9 imperious display at the back, dealt with the fouling lump that is Cole, and mopped up all of the hammers hoofs Fonte 7 solid, made some good runs forward to create space. Fox 7 good outlet down the left and used the ball well, but poor delivery from open play let him down. Morgan 8 excelled in the 'quarter back' role that he takes on when we play against 10 Cork 6 not his best game, too many wayward passes and unnecessary fouls Guly 6 some decent touches and movement, but not direct enough to affect the game Lallana 9 Motm, just outstanding in the first half. Ran the show, and 3 times set sharp up where he should've done better. Lambert 6 not his best game, but then faye was fantastic and had him in his pocket Sharp 6 good shift, and makes things happen, but THAT miss will haunt him for a while. Give him a few games, and he'll be a massive player for this club. Puncheon 7 made an impact with positive running and passing/movement. Needs to start on Saturday. Connolly 6 didn't affect the game
Jack Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 West Ham fans focusing their moaning on missed penalty shouts and Billy being a cheat. They should be more concerned with their skate tw*t Taylor having the indiscipline to go charging in and getting involved. Think they're quick to forget our penalty shouts as well as the fact they should never have been awarded a corner just before their 1st penalty shout. Swings and roundabouts. Time for us to smash Derby and let them worry about their tough run in. And Allardyce being a c*nt. And their vile brand of football. And their financial problems should they fail to get promoted.
beatlesaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 We don't leak goals at all and have been brilliant at holding leads. Would any saints fan want to replace Fonte and Hooiveld, really? I know, I would have half considered Higginbottom as cover....cover being the key word, of course nobody in their right mind would want to replace Jos and Jose. But it seems Saints fans in their right mind are not the ones who text Solent !
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 On the train back to Colchester. They won't win the league playing like that; what a disgrace to football Big Sam' has turned them into. Do need to give them credit for their defending but Fonte definitely should have had a penalty for handball. Confident we will catch up and overtake as they won't win every week playing like that. I must say, I thought our support tonight was up there with the best.
Ampersound Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 We don't leak goals at all and have been brilliant at holding leads. Would any saints fan want to replace Fonte and Hooiveld, really? We only leak goals when Bart is in.. That's my take on that
doddisalegend Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Happy with a point before the game (4pts in a season against WHU has to be good in anyones books) but...... ......... a bit gutted we didn't get 3pts against 10 men for 70 minutes. Didn't sound on the radio like we played as well as we can which is dissapointing. Puncheon needs to start games he's to much of a threat to leave on the bench. Big shout to super Kelv for two big saves. Lastly is there some League rule about WHU getting a peno every game.......
trousers Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 On the train home. Great game. Draw was a fair result. Disappointed with the quality of our final ball most of the time but content overall. Would have started with Puncheon over Guly.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 On train home. Our passing was very good but lacked that little bit of a spark in the final third today. Puncheon good when he came on, Lallana back to his best.
trousers Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 P.s. How the **** did Sharp miss from 3 yards in the first half?!
madruss Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 P.s. How the **** did Sharp miss from 3 yards in the first half?! He even had time to take a touch!! I still can't believe it!
bjk Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Just hope we dont get complacent on Saturday, everyone is expecting an easy win.How many times have you seen Saints mess these sort of games up.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Seem to be creating much more in last two games. Puncheon or chappers to start away from home guly far too inconsistent therefore carries a greater risk when playing away.
Ewell Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 2 points dropped, its as simple as that. We really didn't want it enough, shame really as they were there for the taking.
doddisalegend Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 On the train home. Great game. Draw was a fair result. Disappointed with the quality of our final ball most of the time but content overall. Would have started with Puncheon over Guly. That's actually quite worrying against 10 men for 70 odd miniutes......
Under Weststand Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Good point tonight, a shame we didn't capitalise on the ten men. But would have taken a point before hand. If we can do the buisness against Derby on Saturday it will look even better then. Seems the football is starting to flow again, sounds a bad miss from Sharp but I'm sure he will do the buisness between now & the end of the season.
SuperSAINT Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Chuffed with the point. Shame Billy couldn't tuck his chance away in the 1st half as I think we would've won it after that. Massive game this weekend - How's Derby's form recently?
sfc4prem Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Just on the train back. Felt we deserved the win, and if Billy ****ing Sharp slotted home the easiest chance i've ever seen rather than passing it into Green's hands, then we would have. Terrible home support. Hooiveld my man of the match.
supergoose Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Decent point. Now let's kick on and win this league.
trousers Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 That's actually quite worrying against 10 men for 70 odd miniutes...... Alladice played for the 1-0 after they scored and went down to 10 men. It was therefore harder to penetrate their defensive play despite them only having 10 men. If they'd had 11 men for the full 90 mins then we'd have probably had more space in the last third (as counter-intuitive as that sounds)
SuperMikey Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Bloody hell, scathing write-up of the game on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16921922 Never seen us called 'poor' so many times in a paragraph! Bet it was written by a WHU fan...
James Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Just got back from the game so here's how I saw it: I thought they came out of the traps flying and we were lucky not to be behind. The penalty was a strange one, didn't really see it but the reaction of the players made us all think it was a bit dubious. Don't know what people are talking about re the Sharp and Taylor incident, that one I did see clearly and it was a blatant red. After going behind we absolutely dominated, Adam came into the middle and dictated the play (I'm starting to think we should start with the diamond) - Guly covered a lot of ground and was a lot better than I'd expected but wasn't very effective attacking wise. Punch looked good when he came on I thought and should have started. Should have been level at half time, such a shame Billy didn't tuck away the chance, hope it doesn't knock his confidence or that he is dropped next game as before the miss I thought he was playing well. The best partner for Lambo by a mile, strong, can hold it up, makes intelligent runs and a good turn of pace. Once one goal comes, he'll rattle them in! Only disappointment was that after the miss it looked like he was playing with a few more nerves etc. In the second half, we had almost all the possession and the goal was well deserved. The real mistake we made was not getting it to Fox and Richardson quickly enough as they were in acres of space. We played it down the middle far to often. That being said, we squandered chances from so many balls into the box it was really frustrating. Green also had a good game, the double save from Lallana/Sharp and then the one from Rickie really kept them in it. Had we scored then I think we'd have gone on to win fairly comfortably. Overall I was impressed with the manner of our performance but there were times when we took the wrong option and looked a bit lethargic with some misplaced passes etc which could have cost us. Happy with a point as I'd have taken it before the game, but in light of events at the game I'm disappointed we didn't take all three.

Leicestersaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 A very good result -we've taken 4 points off West ham and 4 off Birmingham which is good - but actually I am disappointed we did not win it. We must learn to turn our dominance into goals in games like this. If we now beat Derby it will have been a very good week.
