she is actually a witch, burn her.

She is actually playing a very clever political game.

When you F**k something up the best way to cover it up is to get folks talking about something else which they think is more important.

Argentinas economy is screwed and the whole time she is stirring up national pride by leading the the charge to reclaim the Falklands from the nasty British then she isn't going to get hammered by her own people.

The sniff of oil has obviously played a part too.

She has overplayed her hand. She's not very clever really.

The fact remains, the Falkland islanders are the only ones who have claim to the islands as they have lived there for many generations (as with most of the countries around the world), end of story.

If this was not a political stunt then Argentina should be making every effort to make joining with Argentina an attractive proposistion(tax and trade breaks etc). This would cost money but surely having the islands back would be worth it as they mean so much to the people! She might even make a load if large amounts of oil is found!

So I say 'keep it up Cristina' and if we find Oil you only have yourself to blame!

You are joking. She isnt clever at all. In fact, I go along with the stance of questioning her sanity too. She definitely has a couple of self-awareness issues.

By trying to distract her electorate from the fact the country is going down economically faster than the Belgrano did, with a punch-up with the UK, she is actually doing EXACTLY the same thing as the military junta in 1982 did, yet part of his strategy is to say that the Argentine government is different from the junta and because of it deserves to be engaged in peaceful negotiations

She banged on about UK non-adherence to UN resolutions since 1965 in her Guardian advert, conveniently forgetting Resolution 502

And I could go on and on about more of her inconsistencies and delusions, but the whole story about the UK "pirates" kicking the Argies out in 1833 is the jewel in the crown here...

Add in her picking fights with Spain, the US and basically defaulting left, right and centre on every loan the nation has, I think you'll find the resolve of her support in South America is falling away rapidly....

Agreed but how many compared with those who have deep seeded emotion about the war and the islands. I bet there are less looking at this from a logical point of view.

She is not stupid, she knows many people in Argentina still have a some unfinished business regarding the war. Just look at the games Argentina have played against England and tell me there isnt a large percentage of the crowd and players who want to win more than they would against the likes of france.

And there are a lot in the UK who feel the same back.

I am sure David Cameron is well aware of this at the moment too. However, long term I trust him over the Falklands with Cleggie, Hughes, Cable, Osborne and Hammond up his *rse just about as far as I can throw them.

I agree completly but we are not Argentine voters. Any attack on the UK regarding the Falklands will gain support in her homeland. Thats all I'm saying.

Well, if the Argie population are stupid enough to keep voting for her on this issue and ignore the country going down the plughole, they deserve to end up starving and homeless.

Its the international support dimension that is important to her strategy, and in trying to become S. Americas equivalent of Hugo Chavez with tits (actually forget that, I am sure Hugo has got bigger tits than hers) she is badly overplaying her hand to everyone except the most barking little despots in Bananaland..

How many votes did Maggie win by going to war with the argies in 82?! Nothing like beating the national pride drum to win support.

Forget bowling, I bet you'd need a 2 x 4 strapped to your arse.

Does her make-up come from Rimmel or Blue Circle (if they are still allowed to trade in Argy-land)

I'm glad I couldn't post the picture that come into my head after reading that. I would have been banned for years.

Arguably, the UK was already on the road to a long and painful recovery, but of course thats another debate...

The most anoying thing about all this is her totally disregard for the people who have lived there for generations.

The UK has sovereignty over the islands yet Cameron would have no right what so ever to kick the islanders off of the islands or have any say on how they live their lives. However for some reason the witch from a country that has never had sovereignty over the islands thinks she does because her country is the nearest.

This is politics plain and simple and as you said Cameron is playing this well so far.

I've been looking for a piccy of her before she had her Emperor Palpatine Transformation by the Dark Side of the Force moment, and before McAlpine were called in for the repair job, but could only find this :

I'm generally pretty anti-war where possible, but I have to say this sabre rattling crap is pretty pointless and stupid. Politicking ******s. Everyone can bang on about colonialism all they want, but some situations are too complex to change, some history too ingrained to effectively change. I feel a fair bit of sympathy with Palestinians on Israel (particularly the incursions etc), some sympathy with the ROI on Northern Ireland, but being dicks doesn't change anything. Take note, IRA. Sometimes a situation should simply be managed as well as possible, and that also applies to the 'invaders', so Israel really don't help themselves. Yet if the colonial arguments had any sense, half the populations of the world would need to go back to their countries of ethnic origin, native americans would reclaim the states, Argentina would lose much of it's population.. etc. It's just stupid, and all about oil and public jingoism. If the Falklanders want to stay British, I say we support them entirely, even if that means military intervention. If not, that's a different thing. If they feel British, and we want to retain the spoils of empire in any way, we are obligated to defend the people. Forget apologising for things that happened hundreds of years ago. The real price we pay for having been an imperial force in the first place is that of loyalty, support and protection to the places that still consider themselves, freely, under our influence, and one we should pay.

If this is really true, I would expect another war at some point, and some curious nation alignment/allying activity in the run up to it.

Would cost a lot more to get out of the ground (sea floor) than in Saudi. Hope you are right though.

No chance they still have the same air force they had in the 80s. Typhoons based on the island would take care of anything they could throw at us.

If it's true, no doubt the US will find some way of needing to "liberate" the Falklands from the occupying Falklanders/colonial Brits/invading Argies/terrorist sheep (whoever happens to be in control at the time) ;)
