You can take a walk to Plaistow/East Ham or get a bus (saw elsewhere that the 58, 104 and 376 are all regular and go to East Ham station). If you wait at Upton Park tube station you could be there well up to, or over, an hour. It's awful. I'd also imagine some of the home fans will be looking for trouble, and from the Tube station there are a few home fan pubs who will be looking for some for sure. I'm going to either keep my colours under my coat until reaching the ground, then revealing them and covering up again after the game, or just not wear them. The fact I live in Southend, West Ham heartland, lots of them here, doesn't help. Try not to get lost or stuck waiting for ages, and hopefully we can clinch 3 points without trouble on or off the pitch. COYS

It says 38 mins but it is nowhere near that long if you walk at a half decent pace. It's 1.9 miles. There is an offy on Barking Road where you can grab a beer. Once you get to West Ham tube there are no queues and it is straight through to Waterloo on the Jubilee. For night games (when you need to get back to Waterloo quite sharpish) I've found this way to be the best. Especially when you've just got a last minute winner and actually want to be able to smile about it... (a taxi could be quicker - dunno - never tried that). For all those going (or are already up in London in some pub) then enjoy. Not jealous at all...

At 2euros90 the kilogramme you might get your ticket money back by collecting them up. You'd only need about 9 kilos.Apples(or real Oranges) would probably be cheaper and much more likely to inflict damage. I got hit by a flying orange once at a Mardi Gras parade in Binche in Belgium,cut my eyebrow and really really hurt.Even had to get it stitched up.Tried to get back the cost from American Express and they sent me a questionnaire about the exact type of Orange and all.Stapled a bit of orange peel to the form and told them to find out themselves,doubt if they did, they just paid. On the subject of quick getaways, that was the night I walked to Plaistow tube and have to say it was much quicker than queuing at upton park tube. turn left at the pub by the market (The Queens) and then straight down the road.

Travel wise, Upton Park tube will be busy but they have tubes q'd up both ways normally timed for post match so should not take more than half an hour. Walking to Plaistow or East Ham is not a bad idea though, nor is getting any bus to Stratford or Canning Town. Black cabs are rare in these parts, you would be waiting a long time and one would set you back about £40 to Waterloo. A mini cab however will be more like £20 to Waterloo or about £8 to Stratford but book one from a cab office pre match or join a wait there too. One good local mini cab number for you 0208 555 5555. A lot of the traffic heads east to wear most WH fans live - Essex. None of the pubs near the ground are very good or pre match friendly. The Black Lion in Plaistow mentioned above is good. Best area for pre match beers is Borough Market at London Bridge, or the Cow in the massive new Westfield at Stratford, or lots of choice in the east side of the City round Aldgate. COYR

cambsaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 My son and I did Upton Park to Mile End several times in the Prem days (Late in laws lived near Mile End), without too much trouble. If you want a drink and a curry afterwards I'd try Brick Lane, providing you can still get a train back. But if I were doing it tonight I'd probably either walk to Plaistow or better still try for a bus to Stratford and The Jubilee Line.
