Yesterday's own goal

Yesterday I thought it wa an og, because I didn't think Sharp touched it. After seeing it on The FL Show, it looks like a fluke, but Sharps goal, whether it hit the defender or not, Sharp had directed it on target & it may have got deflected. I'm pretty sure it's only given as an og if the initial shot was off target & the deflection alters the path into the goal.

Chaplow tweeted last night that it should be illegal for Sharp to claim that goal.

Sharp tweeted back, that chaplow was only sulking (Something like that) because he supports Burnley

Looks like he has fitted straight in.

Is it just me or is Sharp just a little bit, err um.....fat

Sharp is about as fat as Rickie.

And that was an OG, it's quite obviously clear on Saints Player that it dips under Sharps foot, bounces, hits the defenders knee and goes in. How you could miss that 1000 times I don't know... should've gone to Specsavers.

THIS IS A DISASTER! Right at the start of Billy Sharps' Saints career and it will hang over him for years. In 3 or 4 years time when its thought he has scored his 100th goal for Saints no one will know whether its really his 100th goal or just his 99th goal.

I like what you've done here :D

Frankly he reminds me of Rickie a bit when he first arrived... clearly a good player, clearly got talent, but can get even better if he works on his fitness even more. And look at Rickie now...

To be fair, part of his game (admittedly based on watching him for 60 minutes) appears to be based around being strong and holding the ball up well, and physique will help that. There were a couple of through balls he took on his chest whilst holding off defenders, that he had no right to get.

Very very positive debut I thought (Birmingham doesn't count, given the conditions).

My thoughts too. Get him on the Rickie diet and he could easily be Prem quality.

Can't believe that most outlets have given the goal to Sharp.

Being that he completely missed the ball Lambert has more of a claim to it then he does.

Can't complain at a home debut goal for a new striker if they do leave the goal with him though, takes some pressure off him straight away.

Deffo Rickies goal seeing as he put on a nice bit of bounce which lightly brushed the hairs on the defenders legs to put off Grant in goal. Sat right in line when Rickie hit it. Sharp would have got it if the defender wasn't in the way but in reality he was a good distance away from it.

When the stadium announcer started to speak you thought I have never heard an own goal scorer announced before, and still haven't.

When Billy was credited with it over the PA you could see him and the Ref having a joke about it not being his goal.

I was sat directly inline behind the goal and Sharp definitely got a touch on it as he tried to take it across the defender but it struck the defender and went in so definitely an OG.
