Ohio Saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 There is something wrong with me. I am uncharacteristically not nervous about this one, and the thought of a defeat for us tonight has barely even crossed my mind. I should try to get a grip on reality and start showing some nervous tendancies.
Crazy Diamond Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Haha, one of the famous delusions in football mate, the famous Pompey atmosphere. Every time I've been there it's been absolutely awful, no noise apart from that wally with the bell and the drummer. Perhaps it was because it was only West Ham, but a very overrated atmosphere that's for sure. Think it's gonig to be a belter tonight and I'm sticking by my 2-2 prediction. For those who were wondering about the best way of getting out of Upton Park, I'd certainly recommend the walk to East Ham and getting on the tube back into central from London, unless you are prepared to wait ages in the Upton Park tube queue. The walk to East Ham is about 10-15 minutes, and be warned, it's an absolute khazi around there. Uusual away rules apply, no goading and no Millwall songs, and you'll be fine. I like this guy. He can stay! Best of luck, I've gone for 1 - 1 myself.
Armitage Shanks Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I wouldn't want to waste my money betting on this one tonight. If the team that turned up against Bristol City and Leicester put on a show we will get stuffed. Saying that if West Ham play like they did against Ipswich we could score 6. A really hard one to predict and therefore if you're going to bet on anything a 2-2 draw wouldn't be a bad punt.
Jack Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 There is something wrong with me. I am uncharacteristically not nervous about this one, and the thought of a defeat for us tonight has barely even crossed my mind. I should try to get a grip on reality and start showing some nervous tendancies. I wasn't, but now I am. I think it's down to the fact that all the lads have gone but I can't as I'm working away. Feels wrong. I'm going to be sat in a bar with the Barcelona game on the box and the Saints game on the radio on my phone.
paris Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Carlton Cole is getting in the mood.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2101025/Carlton-Cole-Valentines-Day-gift-partner.html
Saint Billy Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Says on the BBC we havent beat any of the top 14 away from home....we've only played 7 of them. Yep that figures, we need to be winning some of these tough away fixtures if we are serious about auto promotion. There seems to be a lot of confidence on here that we are going to stuff them tonight, I really hope so but I will steer clear as far as a bet is concerned.
Lighthouse Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Where's the leaked team news then? As much as I love THEVMAN's inside gossip, I'm glad he's keeping schtum today. Can do without Wham knowing our team several hours in advance.
Suhari Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Nervous about tonight. Hope the restaurant is decent and she likes the present. And god I hope there isn't a repeat of that night in Bognor;must've been tired, that had never happened to me before...... ....what? There's a match?!
Window Cleaner Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 And god I hope there isn't a repeat of that night in Bognor;must've been tired, that had never happened to me before...... . Bognor? think they still put Bromide in the beer there,no-one has told them that WW2 is finished apparently.
dronskisaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Bognor? think they still put Bromide in the beer there,no-one has told them that WW2 is finished apparently. They have beer in Bognor?!
Leicestersaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Bugger Bognor! I am getting nervous about tonight's match - I predict 3 - 1 to Saints but you can never be sure!
Pamplemousse Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Southampton: Davis, Richardson, Fox Fonte, Hooiveld, Schneiderlin, Cork, Lallana, Guly, Sharp, Lambert Bench: Martin, Hammond, Puncheon, Lee, Connolly

Jimmy_D Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Their lineup apparently: Green, O'Brien, Taylor, Faye, Reid, Tomkins, Noble, Collison, Faubert, Vaz Te, Cole So no Maynard by the look of it. Feeling confident. It is Saint Valentine's Day after all

Give it to Ron Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Would have started Puncheon for Guly away from home.
St Chalet Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I don't look at that line up with any great fear I agree. When I looked at our line-up versus Leicester I thought we would struggle. Based on the likely match-ups we could / should win.
gammon cheeks Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Would have started Puncheon for Guly away from home. I thought so aswell>
Stu Man Do Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 If I was big sam i'd be telling Cole to get in some hefty challenges on Davis! Probably would have been worth having Bart in for Conners today on that basis as Lee seems to be a bit tougher and thus better off for this game than DC.
dvaughanwilliams Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 So, same team as Saturday then. No keeper on the bench again, which I think is more of a risk, given the size and physicality of West Ham's strikers. I guess Nigel's going for the 'don't change a winning team' route, which has its advantages. Lets hope we can pass the ball through them or use Sharp to hit them on the counter.

Colinjb Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I would have liked to see Punch instead of Guly, just to see what he could do against their second choice left back. Guly did play well on Saturday though and I hope he makes the most of his second game in a row.
sotonjoe Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Still think Adkins has got the midfield all wrong. Somebody on the right wing who isn't Guly all day long for me. And, perhaps more importantly, I'd like Hammond's bite in the centre of midfield so would have to leave out either Morgan or Cork. And I'm really disappointed for De Ridder that he's failed to make the bench again. In the two consecutive starts he made at home, I thought he played well. In the second game everything he did with the ball was positive and dangerous. People criticise his distribution but he fluffed just one pass in that game.
Lazlo78 Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 With the depth of the squad it's one big puzzle to set up the starting XI, but since the team Saturday looked eerily like the team that started the season with confidence I'm all for a repeat of the lineup... COYS!!!
DG Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 So which one of the West Ham team is going to be the one who kung fu kicks Davis in the face then? Team looks good though! COYS.
SuperMikey Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I would have liked to see Punch instead of Guly, just to see what he could do against their second choice left back. Guly did play well on Saturday though and I hope he makes the most of his second game in a row. As I said earlier on the thread, Guly brings out the best in Frazer's wing play as he drops inside and offers a deep option when Frazer overlaps. Given they've got somebody playing out of position at LB tonight, that's a tactic we will definitely be looking to employ! Interesting to see no De Ridder or Chaplow on the bench, f*cking 5 sub rule! Really needs to be reviewed before the end of the season - what is the point in only allowing 5 subs anyway!?
DrunkenSaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Hmm NA got the midfield wrong for this one i think, Guly away from home in the cold i dont think so, Punch should of started and De Ridder on the bench instead of Guly for this one. We need bite away from home and Guly does not give it.
alpine_saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Ah, come on. Maybe Goolie will rise to the occasion.
Thedelldays Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 i wonder how long before the season is a write off during this game... I predict minute 28
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 i wonder how long before the season is a write off during this game... I predict minute 28 welcome back tdd I'd give it 5mins.
Dr Who? Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Anyone else feeling a little bit nervous? Have not felt like this for a long time!
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Anyone else feeling a little bit nervous? Have not felt like this for a long time! Quite relaxed and excited actually. I'm never nervous about us going into these games.
Dr Who? Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 welcome back tdd I'd give it 5mins. This is going to be a very tough one.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Anyone else feeling a little bit nervous? Have not felt like this for a long time! Always nervous when listening...never as nervous when watching
hypochondriac Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Ah, come on. Maybe Goolie will rise to the occasion. Memories of Portsmouth makes me nervous. No bigger occasion than that.
Elias Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I'm not sure we'll win tonight. Think home advantage will help West Ham beat us. Still doesn't count us out at the top though, there'll be easier games coming up.
Dr Who? Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Quite relaxed and excited actually. I'm never nervous about us going into these games. I'm not normally, but cannot stand West Ham, and the thought of them going 4 points clear with a game in hand, when they are not all that, just makes me feel sick.
alpine_saint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Memories of Portsmouth makes me nervous. No bigger occasion than that. This is miles bigger than a meaningless local derby against a team that will soon cease to exist. And it was Hardings fault, not Goolie's
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 I'm not normally, but cannot stand West Ham, and the thought of them going 4 points clear with a game in hand, when they are not all that, just makes me feel sick. They have a much bigger squad than us though in terms of premiership experience, so it wouldn't come as a massive surprise. But I have huge faith in the players we have to rise to the occasion.
(not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Good to see no changes for tonight, no-one deserved to be dropped after sat and the subs give us plenty of different options to mix it up. Bit nervous about no sub keeper but we're clearly playing for the win, which is a good thing.
dubai_phil Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 And St Valentine's colour is red & I bought her Red & White Flowers today And got in the mood for the game with a couple of bottles of Rioja
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 A win would be great.. A draw would be decent A defeat will not be the end of the season... Keep calm and carry on Come on Saints...
S-Clarke Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 A win would be great.. A draw would be decent A defeat will not be the end of season... Keep calm and carry on Come on Saints... That's summed it up very nicely! Sticky this!
itchen_dan Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Feeling pretty chilled. Good to see the team staying as it is but I wouldve had Punch in for Guly as I feel it may have offered us a little bit more creativity to unlock them. Saints to win 3-1!
InvictaSaint Posted 14 February, 2012 Posted 14 February, 2012 Bristol City got a 0-0 at Upton Park, as did Millwall (yes, I know we have lost to both, but you see what I mean!), and Ipswich and two others have won there, so we have nothing to fear. Let's just go for it.
