And people wonder why people think WHU fans are arrogant....

"Vexed 8:14 Mon Feb 13

Your mate sounds like an over excited small time club supporting bellend. Very reminiscent of Blackpool fans last season when they were doing well.

Getting a bit above themselves and should pipe the **** down. We have a right to think we should beat everyone in this division, we're ****ing West Ham United for ****s sake. The likes of Southampton should quietly enjoy their 'success' but shouldn't expect to beat anyone, because they're a small time muppet club."

Remind me someone, didn't they win everything last year? Sorry, realise now, they were relegated.

Got a feeling will do to West ham what we did to Norwich a couple of seasons back and play them off the park for a very good win. I mean the players have got to be up for this game tonight haven't they?

But Norwich was on a sunny Saturday afternoon,we're not the same on evening games.

From the W Ham forum looks like they expect their side to be 4-5-1 although Sam says 4-3-3.Hope we get this right then, I'd probably leave Sharp on the bench and reinforce midfield. But then we might start 4-4-1-1 with Rickie dropping deep most of the time.

Love this bit...

Maynard's arrival should offer some encouragement to the fans whose discontented mutterings about the team's negative playing style, particularly at home, have accompanied West Ham's ascent to the top. "Any criticism of the way we play doesn't make any sense to me," their manager, Sam Allardyce, said last week. "All this team did before was lose."

I think that West Ham have been awarded quite a lot of penalties at home (saying that, we've had quite a few at St Mary's), which doesn't surprise me after seeing John Carew's tactics in the previous game. He pulls the defenders' shirts and pushes them around and at the first sign of them touching him, he goes straight to the ground.

I think a lot depends on who the ref is and how they handle the occasion. It'll be a full house, or close to one, so there'll be a lot of pressure on him.

If we start with Puncheon on the right, Chaplow and Cork in the centre and have Lee and De Ridder on the bench, I think we've got a chance. Beat them at their own game, have our paciest players on the shoulders of the defence and play balls over the top for them to run on to and keep them pinned back.

Our defence need to have a good game, but I think we've got a chance. Don't expect it to be a high scoring game, one goal in it or a draw.

Chaplow will not play in the middle, he hasn't done so all season. Especially when he is just coming back from injury. Has to be an unchanged side for me tonight, time for Guly to show his worth, and if it's not working, bring on Puncheon.

Most of the pressure will come from the slobbering oaf that is Allardyce as he spends lots of his time shouting and swearing at the

the officials....

Hopefully the ref will have more understanding of what a foul is than the idiot they had for the Millwall game who bizzarely thought

the charging of the goalkeeper by faubert was legal...

Would be happy with Hammond in the middle as well. I just think that it's a game for the players with the highest work rate as I think it will be a scrappy game. Schneiderlin has a great range of passing, but I worry about him getting closed down by a well organised West Ham defence and midfield.

I'm undecided about Guly's suitability for the game. He did win quite a few headers in the Burnley game and does have a large physical presence, even if he doesn't always use it. I just think that there will be space behind West Ham's back 4 that we should exploit and Guly certainly isn't a player to do that, that's why I think Puncheon should play.

The great thing about the squad at the moment is the flexibility in terms of personnel and formation that we have. Given that West ham often play 5 in midfield, it wouldn't surprise me if we played the diamond in midfield with Lallana at the point and 3 of Hammond, Cork, Chaplow and Schneiderlin as the other 3 midfielders, with the attacking players rotating positions to pull the defenders out of position.

i think he will play the same team that started saturday. it's interesting because it is the line up (apart from sharp) that started the season so well esp at home but away from home was a little inconsistent. prior to burnley game and since the bristol city game our home form had been poor yet our away form picked up and the team line up/tactics was different to the one that started the season. so does adkins use different personnel and tactics when playing away from SMS in order to continue recent resurgence on the road?

the only player i would consider changing is guly for puncheon as guly has always been more effective at SMS and he was perhaps one of the reasons why we was so inconsistent on the road. tactically he then has to decide whether to play flat 4 across the middle or play diamond.

just hope what ever he goes with works from the off rather than changing 20 minutes into game when we are already chasing the game.

My sentiments exactly.

oooohhhh those Cheeky Cockneys aren't gonna be as "Top of the leeeeeeeeeeeague, we're top of the leeeeeeague, we are southampton and we're top of the league rings out loud and clear around Upton Park!!

Interesting, few of you boys are very very confident it seems. I also read somewhere further up that Diop is absolutely useless? Is this person for real? He has been immense for us in this league, and we are a weaker team for him not being there.

Also a few posts about us being a big club? We are not a big club. We have a huge fanbase and have had some expectional players in the past. That's about it.

Buzzing for tonight's game.

To be fair, I think the majority of Saints fans would take a point, and some are hopeful that we will win. I don't think 1 Saints fan will be going to Upton Park expecting a win. Though if we do score early then I can see us going on to win by a couple, it's a big game regardless and should be a cracker under the lights.

what's an expectional player? one who you expect good performances from but who never actually makes them?

I admire that honesty.

The other day I had a Portsmouth fan telling me that they had the best fans in the land because Ronaldinho said so. Excuse me if I don't believe a man with the face of a donkey about a group of people that haven't sold out their ground for about four years.

Are we confident? I think in previous years it would be a West Ham win, no question, but the Championship is so open that anything can happen. As long as that's the case, in a universe of infinite possibilities, yeah we can have a bit of confidence I suppose.

Haha, one of the famous delusions in football mate, the famous Pompey atmosphere. Every time I've been there it's been absolutely awful, no noise apart from that wally with the bell and the drummer. Perhaps it was because it was only West Ham, but a very overrated atmosphere that's for sure.

Think it's gonig to be a belter tonight and I'm sticking by my 2-2 prediction.

For those who were wondering about the best way of getting out of Upton Park, I'd certainly recommend the walk to East Ham and getting on the tube back into central from London, unless you are prepared to wait ages in the Upton Park tube queue. The walk to East Ham is about 10-15 minutes, and be warned, it's an absolute khazi around there. Uusual away rules apply, no goading and no Millwall songs, and you'll be fine.
