West Ham vs Saints build up thread

Another match against someone we were linked to?

On Saturday it was Sharp against JayRod. We neutered Rodriguez and Billy scored.

At West Ham we could be facing Maynard who might make his debut. So could be very interesting if he starts. My money is on Sharp to take the honours again, even though Maynard has enjoyed scoring against us, but that is now in the past.

Saints 3-2

Lambert, Sharp and Hooiveld

Franny Benali will be in the away end tomorrow, so keep an eye out. Gutted I can't make this one, gonna be a real traditional evening fixture at a fantastic footy ground. I'm quietly confident we can grab all three points to. I'll be there in spirit and singing along with every word that emulates from the away section. Be in fine voice to those travelling up.

COYS!!!

And people wonder why people think WHU fans are arrogant....

Your mate sounds like an over excited small time club supporting bellend. Very reminiscent of Blackpool fans last season when they were doing well.

Getting a bit above themselves and should pipe the **** down. We have a right to think we should beat everyone in this division, we're ****ing West Ham United for ****s sake. The likes of Southampton should quietly enjoy their 'success' but shouldn't expect to beat anyone, because they're a small time muppet club."

lol. WHU really aren't anything special, not sure what their fans think they are half the time. They're a nothing club really, just another medium sized London club that has had some famous players play for them in the past. Excellent.

W Ham of the 80's was a good footballing team to watch. The over paid shower of krap they put out now really is shamefull. That's fat Sam!!

People still refer to them as 'the Academy of football'. Bizarre, because two of the best players in the Premiership are actually from OUR academy. And (genuine question) when did West Ham last produce a world-class footballer - yet we've produced Walcott, Bale and Chamberlain in the past decade...

Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand... need any more? ;)

They've got an excellent academy but ours is pretty good too - albeit not being able to match their modern-day record of pumping out Premiership players like they have.

That's just weird. Unless it's someone whose only followed football for 4 or 5 years.

Saints and West Ham have similar recent histories, similar size clubs and both spent a long time in the top flight. Both had a cup final, both had Pardew! Didn't think they were the most arrogant club, although it's only one fan. I think most clubs being relegated have a bit of arrogance about going back up. There's is more justified simply because they chose to spend a fortune. Risky, not at all good for football and IMO a daft long-term strategy. They should have looked to rebuild, plan something long-term, play decent football again and hit the ground running in the top flight. Instead they went for expensive players purely to get them up as soon as possible, risking the financial future of their club in the process.

On the forum that post came from, I've noticed at least 2 threads along the lines of 'when we win the league', and 'who should we sign when we go up'.

I would love it, LOVE IT, if we went up there, soaked up their long ball sh*t, and passed and play our way to victory.

Please explain why?

In terms of support, they average more than we do at home (nearly 35K) and take more away (http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?35192-Football-League-Away-Support-Stats&highlight=attendance), won the cup 3 times and a Cup Winners Cup. I wouldn't personally put that in the "big" category, but it stands up well against us if you're honest. In terms of players produced in recent times, we've both got records to be proud of. I think we'll both go up this season, but I'd rather be us than them if that happens, if they keep up that is!!! :^)

WHUFC supporting mate just told me West Ham haven't won a midweek home league game for 2 years.

I remember we hadn't lost at home in the league all year up until the last game... Records are there to be broken.

Saying that, reckon it will be a great game and it is probably too close to call.

No, not really risking their financial future. They're f****d if they stay down for more than one year, so makes sense to speculate to get back up. Considering we've been in admin and they haven't its a bit rich us lecturing them on financial matters. They're not a massive club, but they're bigger than us and its not hard to see why they'd expect to go straight back up.

Re: The view from a Southampton fan..

I'm glad we're not the only ones who think Bagpuss should be locked up.

For that reason, I'm IN

I'm not sure into what though...

Really looking forward to this one, and think we've got a great chance of coming away with 3 points. Our squad looks so strong now, amazing to think that just over a month ago we had a bench of Bart, Reeves, Holmes, Forte, Fox!

I predict 2-1, with a nervy last 5 minutes of dealing with a bombardment of hoofs (much like when they came to SMS)

I really wouldn't say any of those are world class.

Bale is heading that way - but I don't think there are any truly world class players who play for England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales any more. Cole has flattered to deceive (similar to Lallana really), Ferdinand has been the best of a bad crop of centre halves (he's prone to serious lapses in concentration) and Lampard has always struck me as a flat track bully, who hides in the big games.

Just sayin'.....
