League Table, this time last year

I think that table from last season is a little screwed.

Shows QPR as having 56, then 2nd Forest with 49....then Norwich third, with more points - 51.

Odd. (might just be me being an idiot though)

In the grand scheme of things though we're about where you'd want to be at the half way stage of the season - now all we have to do is replicate our first half into the 2nd half of the season. If we do that automatic promotion is a given.

I think the table is ordered by PPG, because the teams have played different numbers of games.

Not an idiot - it's ranked on points per game - so Forest move up having played two games less.

Re the rest of the season - well our W15 D7 L7 hides a lot as it's divided into W12 D3 L2 from the first 17 games and then W3 D4 L5 from the next 12!

On the negative side, we've lost all momentum, and probably most of the confidence that goes with it. In the early part of the season we were expecting to win. That'll be very hard to recapture

On the plus side - we've got players coming back from injury and new additions that will give us a good squad at this level for the rest of the season. We've got quite a good run-in once the next few fixtures are out of the way. To be honest if we play like we did second half v Cardiff then we'll pick up a lot of points.

I thing I've noticed about this season's Championship fixtures is that most teams have the same run of top opponents grouped together. We're just coming out of a run of difficult fixtures since the start of December including Blackpool, Crystal Palace, Cardiff, Birmingham and West Ham, and West Ham are just about to embark on a run of fixtures including :

Saints

Blackpool

Palace

Cardiff

Leeds

and Middlesbrough, all before March 20th.

Meanwhile for comparison, in the same timeframe Saints face :

Burnley

West Ham

Derby

Watford

Leeds

Ipswich

Barnsley

Millwall

and then Hull on 20th March.

That's a much easier run of fixtures.

Then again we've only beaten Forest, Palace and Coventry in the 13 matches since Nov 29th...

.........even if they are top by default (our bad run of results) I don't think they've got the consistancy to win over all these .

West Ham do also have Peterboro, Watford and Doncaster in that time period, but their results recently aren't that impressive when you look at who they beat :

22 17.12.2011 Barnsley home W1-0

23 26.12.2011 Birmingham City away D1-1

24 31.12.2011 Derby County away L1-2

25 02.01.2012 Coventry City home W1-0

26 14.01.2012 Portsmouth away W1-0

27 21.01.2012 Nottingham Forest home W2-1

28 31.01.2012 Ipswich Town away L1-5

29 04.02.2012 Millwall home W2-1

Four single goal home wins against teams in 15th,21st ,23rd and 24th are not to be feared, and the other one goal win was at Fratton (17th).

Thought it may be useful to draw a few comparisons from the league table this time last year (Not exactly a year as they had played a few more games so i did the comparison based on games played)

Just for reference PPG is Points Per Game

You thoughts guys?

You're misleading us. This is not last year' league table it's PPG table and Forest who had played fewer games had the second highest PPG but were not 2nd in the league, they were 4th.

Thus the top three at this time last year went up and the top two remained the top two. Maybe some hope then!
