We've got Trevor Kettle as the referee, quite possibly the worst ref in the Football League. He's worse than Andy D'Urso or Peter Walton :o

Just 'Googled' him. Record as follows

Matches Reff'd- 30

Cards Red - 11

Yellow - 99

is he looking for his Century/ All the comments on 'Rate the Ref' are hyper critical. Looks like we could be having a 'mare' tomorrow if he's 'on-form'

He was the ref for one of the worst reffing performances ever seen at St Mary's about 3-4 years ago - can't remember who we played but I'm pretty sure we won and all anyone talked about was how bad he was nevertheless. You really have to be a terrible ref for WINNING fans to be slagging off your performance.

We honestly seem to have a terrible ref each week. Who are the football league best refs?

Surely they cannot all be ****e, as that would question more the impossibility of the job or the unyielding nature of us football fans.

For me, I accept that refs will get decisions wrong, not see things and be inconsistent (they are human beings not robots after all). What drives me nuts though is seeing them influenced by players or the crowd.

What I would call a Championship referee and he's been to St Marys several times now. Overall I seem to remember doing well out of him so no complaints in that department.

We first saw Kettle in our first game down in 05 against Wolves. Sent Claus off. I recall thinking how bad he was compared to the prem refs we were used to. I ssuppose they all seem sh ite these days.

I agree with Up an Away, that even though he is pants, we have done OK. QPR away play-off season we won 2-0 and they whinged. Watford, under the Dutch dorks and he gave us 2 pens. Missed by McGoaldrought and PWFG. Brentford away, last April.

I remember him giving a penalty to Brentford last season when we won 3-0, despite it being about 5 yards outside the box.

Well perhaps not quite 5 yards, looked at it on the highlights, there's a lot of contact between Frazer and the Bees player, some of it in the box, some of it outside, really difficult to say which one brought him to ground in the end, suspect it's Frazer taking his trailing foot though which might have been an inch inside or a couple outside.

I suppose if they scored it, then it wouldn't of been a goal anyway?

Put it this way, it wouldn't persuade me into thinking that the player who scored it and had 1 more goal on his counter was a better striker than one with the same number less this one.

Watching the same players performances week in and week out does that for me.

I'm sorry but my nan should be infront of Barnard from what i've seen of him this season. I don't think i've seen him control a ball and keep it within 5 yards of himself yet and can probabbly count his completed passed on 2 hands.

You do realise I meant Tadanari Lee?! For me it's Lambert, Sharp, Guly, Lee, Connolly, Barnard, desperation. Even have De Ridder in before last couple, although prefer him on the wing. I expect next season Connolly and Barnard will be gone.

it makes me laugh the hopes people are pinning on Lee and already elevating him above Connelly, a proven goal scorer at all levels. Hopefully Lee will turn out to be good - but the truth is he is an unknown who no one can claim to know much about. So far he has looked very lightweight. Yes he is something knew, and exciting but I doubt we will see the best of him till next season at the earliest. Lambert and Sharp stand apart from all our other strikers. Guly and Connelly are then both proven. Anything could happen with Lee

Yes, but Lee looks quick, enthusiast and with movement, as well as being fairly young. Connolly started the season well, and although seems to be a lot fitter in terms of less injuries, has been totally anonymous as well as pretty wasteful in quite a few games recently. That's why i'd put Lee above him now. I understand he's unproven, but he's showing good signs.

Might do Connolly some good to have a rest anyway. I was a bit critical of signing Lee, but he looks sharp and makes terrific runs. Definitely worth a spot on the bench. Hopefully the rest of the team are becoming more familiar with his game.

We need Martin on the bench as well.

It really is a hard task for Nige to pick his 16 at the moment.

Right wing: Punch, Guly, de Ridder, Chaplow

Left wing: Lallana, Chaplow

Centre mid: Hammond, Cork, Morgan, Reeves

Up front: Lambert, Sharp, Guly, Lee, Connolly

Haven't even mentioned Falque or Barnard.

Personally, I would pick this team:

------------------------KD-------------------

Frazer--------Fonte-------Martin/Jos----------Fox

Puncheon-----Morgan------Reeves--------Lallana

------------Lambert-------Sharp------------

Subs: Bart, Martin/Jos, Chaplow, Lee, de Ridder

So, no: Guly, Hammond, Cork, Connolly, Barnard, Falque, Holmes, Harding...

Harsh on Guly as he's been good this season but he's not really an "impact" type of player. If we need a replacement striker, Lee gives us a different sort of threat. Likewise if we need a replacement right winger then de Ridder offers a different sort of threat to Puncheon/Lallana, whereas Guly is quite similar. Mind you, de Ridder seems to be struggling a bit with injuries so that might give Guly the advantage this weekend.

Cork was really good against Forest but since then has not played well IMO. I've been impressed with Reeves. He looks to be potentially a more complete player than any of our usual CMs. Think he deserves a start in a home game.

School boy error by Trousers there. OK, swap De Ridder for Puncheon then flip a coin as to whether Puncheon or Chaplow starts. Probably Puncheon now I come to think of it. Phew, got away with that one...

Chappers isn't match fit yet so will not start as that tends to be the high intensity part of a match at SMS when top sides come at us straight out of the blocks. Since De Ridder is knackered and Guly never gets his anti-freeze warm in this climate it's got to be Puncheon to start and Chappers on at 65min. Lee for Sharp or Sharp for Lee. I think I'd start with Lee after his display on Tuesday and bring Sharp on later.

Surprised that you think Hoover will start as it seems doubtful to me that he'll be ready. Maybe Jaidi should get a start?

For me;

Davis, Butterfield-Jaidi-Fonte-Fox, Puncheon-Schneiderlin-Cork-Lallana, Lee-Lambert

subs; GK-Richardson-Chaplow-Hammond-Sharp

Butterfield and Seaborne aren't fit.Didn't Fox say Cork had some sort of hamstring concerns as well, certainly NA said the same sort of thing on Tuesday.

I've got a feeling that Reeves will play some part in this one, whether that will be counter-productive at this level I just couldn't say.

Frankly I have no idea what tomorrow's team will be because Nige likes to tinker and be innovative.Who's up front and who isn't is a bit hard to guess, you'd think Rickie and Billy but whether that will be the actual pair.???????,

All I know is that this is a fulcrum game, win and we'll be back on track,draw...depends on the others...lose, well I'll be booking my days off for the play-offs.

Exactly. Sharp has to start. It will give the crowd a huge lift and I really haven't been impressed by Lee with what I've seen of him so far (not to say he won't come good but doesn't look ready to step straight in for a crucial game). Also, anyone who has put Reeves in ahead of Cork or Hammond needs there head examining. Too lightweight for Champ football at the moment from what I've seen. He shows some nice touches but never has any real impact on a game (disallowed goal aside).

I believe his full record against us is :-

2010/11 brentford (a) Won 3-0

2009/10 TORQUAY (H) JPT 2-2 won on pens

2008/09 WATFORD (H) lost 0-3

2006/07 YEOVIL (H) LC Won 5-2; qpr (a) Won 2-0; COLCHESTER (H) lost 1-2

2005/06 WOLVES (H) drew 0-0

4w - 1d - 2l (if you count the JPT as a win )

and burnley :-

2010/11 norwich (a) drew 2-2; IPSWICH (H) lost 1-2

2008/09 donny (a) lost 2-1

2007/08 PALACE (H) drew 1-1

2006/07 sunderland (a) lost 3-2

2005/06 PLYMOUTH (H) won 1-0

2004/05 cardiff (a) lost 2-0

1w - 2d - 4l

Sharp has to start - Agree with you.

Lee has done OK and shown some good touches - Disagree with you.

Reeves =Played well against that Championship Team Millwall when he came on (and scored) - Might not be ready to start but would have him on the bench ready to come on.

I can't chuffing wait for a return to winning ways... here's hoping it's tomorrow!

I maybe slightly hungover, as usual, but i will be listening nonetheless. (why do we insist on playing at 7am on a saturday morning BTW?)

This ale is going down very nicely as I troll up a storm on Poopey Online.

Ah that well known Bangkok based skate - Bang Krupt. Nice one

Prob miss 1st half of match thread tonight Sash shirt wearing day for Sky Sports @ golf then beers. Tough job today for me - I'm manning the ack ack guns to shoot down any more dodgy balloons.

Tough game, REALLY need a win. Anything but a win will plunge view of our football hopes into an Alpine-esque view. I'll certainly start to get worried.

Will Sharp & Lambert have had time to understand each other up front? If they have then could be fun. If they are still getting to know each other.....

Falque was a terrible mistake - he'll be back in Spurs reserves before the end of the season just to get some game times as I don't think he will get anymore here.

Leicester, Cardiff, Brum and West Ham all have squads that our much better than ours on paper. Player for player certainly - it was the way we were playing at the start of the season that was making the difference. Now we seem to have lost our way - and the individual quality of the players in their squads is now making a real difference.

Will be interesting to see how Falque turns out! He has yet to have a decent run. However I do question some of the transfers made by Adkins, who seems to coach very well and run a good ship (or bus ) but his transfer selections do sometimes leave a bit to desire. I cite the likes of Stephens, N'Guesson, Forte etc. none of whom improved the team or established a real presence. Hoivelled, Cork and Guly have been better although Cork seems to be fading, Guly runs hot and cold and Hoivelled was actually our third or fourth choice!

The likes of Lambert, Harding, Puncheon, Fonte, Hammond all have made better impressions even though they were signed for League 1

Let us hope Sharp and Falgue can make their mark on the team for the crucial run in and that we we find the midfield creativity and defensive solidity we seem to be currently lacking.

Rickie Lambert and Billy Sharp will score more league goals than Rodriguez and Austin, between now and the rest of the season. If the defence is up to scratch, then we may still finish top two.

That's a good point. Given that it's defences that win leagues I'm a bit surprised we haven't done more to bolster the CBs, we seem to have ended up with a Keegan/Nichol approach of scoring one more than they do - although I know that's not really Nige's philosophy.

13 points out of the last 12 league games! this is poor form however you look at it! 12 games is not a wobble it is over 25% of the season, and is therfore more of a slump

That is a full 9 behind the average of 2 a game usually needed for almost certain promotion!

We must get back to winning ways now

We have now used up all the fat we stored for the winter through our excellent season start, which has masked the recent decline.

We are hungry now and need to get out and hunt afresh whilst we still can before starvation sets in leading to further decline.

Bring on Burnley and come on you Saints
