We have to win, simple as that. A gallant good performance but only a point or a defeat isn't good enough if we are serious about the top 2.

Our home form is pretty poor to be honest, and it's always the way when a team ends a run - they then lose that intensity for a few weeks. Let's hope we get that back on Saturday.

I don't think we're playing too badly, but we just don't seem to have that winning mentality about us anymore (win at all costs etc) and we're starting to look a bit brittle against the better teams in this league, and Burnley are one of the better sides.

A win will be great and will get us back on the road, anything else and we will start slip sliding away from those top 2, and frighteningly 7th position comes into view and is only a few points back..

School boy error by Trousers there. OK, swap De Ridder for Puncheon then flip a coin as to whether Puncheon or Chaplow starts. Probably Puncheon now I come to think of it. Phew, got away with that one...

Chaplow still needs a couple sub appearances to regain sharpness and Puncheon has been to good to drop. I'm starting to wonder if, when everyone is 100% again if we would not be better with Cork or Morgan as a DM in front of the back four and having Lallana/Chaplow/Puncheon in playing as Attacking Midfielders may be worth a go.

Burnley have the best away record of 8 wins, 4 draws so far. Going to be really tough to get the points from this game

Posted
And however important, we don't HAVE to win. That never makes sense. No-one would turn down 4 points from these 2 would they for instance? So I'd happily go with drawing with Burnley and beating West Ham. Doesn't mean I think that's going to happen or that I wouldn't be gutted to fail against Burnley. But there's a hell of a long way to go. Every slip up makes if harder for us, helps everyone else, but let's not pretend we're about to give up and stop fighting. Happened a hundred times last season too. People say it's over or they've given up, but still log in and post every day.

I think it's important to win though. The longer we go without a win, the harder it will be to get out of this slump - especially at home. We need a confidence boost and quick, and we need our winning mentality back. We need a win ASAP and that has to be on Saturday IMO.

what about the lad falque?

I think he's struggling to get anywhere near the team to be honest. Can't see a place for him when we've got De Ridder, Puncheon, Barnard, Sharp, Lee, Chaplow - all available as reserve attacking options.

Indeed....we've arguably got the best squad in the league.....on paper....

If Cork and Schneiderlin are involved then in my opinion it is nowhere near our best X1. These two are not compatible. Pretty and pleasing on the ball they maybe, but incisive and game changing they are not. And hereby lies our current woes.

I think when he was brought in, NA and NC probably weren't expecting Puncheon to ever play for us again. Now Puncheon is back in the fold and doing well, he's going to struggle to get anywhere near the team.

This is where I've kind of got a few question marks at the mo. I think we're being shown up by a few of the bigger sides in this league in terms of real squad depth. I think WHU, Brum etc have got more premiership experience in their sides and that seems to now be coming to the fore. That may be our undoing, I think we've got a decent team though - don't get me wrong. Just fearing that the real quality teams in thiss league are now starting to turn up.

Who do you think is out best CM paring? I know there is a big divide in supporters between Hammond and Morgan. IMO Moran is better than Hammond, however an equal amount of fans seem to see it the other way round.

Cork does seem to be a bit lightweight sometimes as well as seemingly being devoid of creativity.

This Burnley game will see the return to St Mary's of former chairman LEE HOOS who is now chairman at Burnley. Can think he will have a thing or two to tell Nicola about his time in charge. :)

Agreed...so he'll probably start Saturday! Adkins likes a surprise or two. Depends if Puncheon is fully fit. You'd hope he'd be playing.

It should make a difference having stronger players on the bench. Chaplow is now putting pressure on all the midfield for a start, strikers know they can't have poor games, Lallana knows he has to find form or we have other options. Creatively things are looking up. Defensively, a bit fragile. Surprised we didn't bring in a defender or keeper, guess Adkins has faith in his squad, or simply couldn't find better options.

There's a chance Jos could be back for this according to NA - that would be a huge boost.

Falque was a terrible mistake - he'll be back in Spurs reserves before the end of the season just to get some game times as I don't think he will get anymore here.

Leicester, Cardiff, Brum and West Ham all have squads that our much better than ours on paper. Player for player certainly - it was the way we were playing at the start of the season that was making the difference. Now we seem to have lost our way - and the individual quality of the players in their squads is now making a real difference.

Neither played last night and the lack of Cork's defensive abilities cost us. We were too attacking. Cork is a grafter and provides the ball for others to play. Morgan is a bit hit and miss for me. Out of interest who would be your two CM's without these two?

That's exactly right IMO.

At the start of the season we had a real momentum from the season before, and that allowed us to take advantage of the newley relegated teams as they were still on a slump, with their new managers still trying to find their way etc. Now the ''better'' teams at this level seem to have found their way, and in away I think we've lost alot of our zip because teams are coming up with really successful game plans against us every week.

It's usually as simple as get close to us,c lose us down quickly. If you do that we loose alot of our penetration.

When fit we could play Cork and Chaplow in CM. Cork defensive and Chaplow making runs into the box.

not a fan of the diamond formation but the orthodox 4 across the middle is simply not working and we seem to have played better of late when reverting to the diamond.

The diamond only works if the full backs push on and support like they did in the 2nd half v cardiff.

Chaplow is nowhere near as good in the middle as in the right.
