I love the people who walk up to our club and say "I do mixed martial arts/jeet kune do", really love them....one art not good enough for you or is it because it's fashionable?

We hold a tai chi lesson on a tuesday, but some are a bit shocked when they find out that tai chi is in fact a martial art (tai chi chuan means "grand ultimate fist") in itself and basically just a way to allow a person to fight and defend themselves when they are otherwise incapable...old for example.

What club would this be??

Yeah, it's called Hung Leng Kuen kung fu (translated two ways 1, "Free spirit fist" or 2, "the art of the multiple changing fist") it's been about at Southampton uni since '82 I think (although it's a fair bit older than that) The thing about kung fu is that it's not sticcato(?) and very rythmic, unlike some traditional arts (I say that, but when you meet a very high up expert in most arts, they tend to look a lot like kung fu, even Karate) the founder always said the whole point of HLKKF was to take someone "from this (standing) to this (on the floor) as quickly as possible" which I think is a very good and succinct description. We generally have around 10-15 people in each class; some students and some not....it's all good fun.

I think I included a link before, but if I didn't: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~hungleng

Sorry mate, you did say. Looks good to me. I know what you mean, we get a few MMA and Kick Boxing guys coming along to Krav, strolling in thinking they are the dogs boll*cks and some of them are surprised at what it is like. THey teach that to win a fight you've got 15 seconds and need to get 4 good blows which is why it teaches to attack the most vunerable areas. It so much more explosive than what the other guys do.
