trousers Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Content with a 0-0 against the league's in-form team
saintscottofthenortham Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Wowzer. Granted the conditions were rough, but I have never seen us so negative (under Adkins that is).
andysstuff Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Would have taken that at Kick off. Disappointed at the lack of chances in front of goal though.
Monk Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Not impressed with Phil Dowd. Happy with a point. Punch should of stayed on. Didnt realise Sharp was on.
Baird of the land Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Very happy with an away point at Brum. Sounded a decent performance from Saints too in difficult conditions. Just a pity we didn't beat Cardiff in midweek & millwall couldn't get anything against 10 men W HAm.
disintegration87 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Caldwell blatant trip on Guly and only yellow carded?!?!?! 0 - 0 good result though snow and blizzard conditions don't suit our total football style.
dubai_phil Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Will take the point against a team in that run of form. Needless foul by Fox got him a poor yellow and a needless Red. No idea who the tater was on the stream from First Row but he was awful
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Strange match...thought we held the ball pretty well, but the final third was devoid of anything !! no shooting and crap cossing...Awful corners too..brum huffed and puffed and kelv made one good save...Just odd all round, but a point is keeping us ahead of the pack....
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 That was a proper ''play to the conditions'' game from us. I don't think we had any enormous intention to win it, I think first and foremost our game plan was to control it and see where we go from there - and I felt we did that. In terms of the final third though, it was a non-event for both teams. Let's be honest, for a neutral this was total dross in terms of a football match - but I'd take a point from that, just a bit frustrating we didn't show a bit more ambition when in the final third. I think the free kick we had in the 90th min summed our entire attacking performance up...... Still, 2 points clear of Cardiff now, 4 behind WHU and a home game coming up. It's a better result for us than Brum, that's for sure - they cannot afford too many more slips.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 The red card for Fox was harch....But Fox was gash to be quite honest. But a good point away from home. Roll on Waste Ham - Nolan.
saintant Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Good point. Two questions 1) where did Lallana disappear to in the second half - did he go home? 2) Rickie's free kick, what the f#ck? Just put your laces through it man!
Saint_clark Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Caldwell blatant trip on Guly and only yellow carded?!?!?! 0 - 0 good result though snow and blizzard conditions don't suit our total football style. He wasn't the last man. No complaints from me, except for Lambert not shooting at the end. Ridiculous.
Saintjersey Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Good point, up against a seriously in form team away from home.
jamesfp1 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Weather = Unplayable Red Card = Unbelievable Rickies Freekick = Unforgivable Move on.
DG Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Would have taken a draw before hand but disappointed we didn't create more chances. I hope we appeal the red card as that was a joke.
dan17 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Very good point gained tonight. Odd performance though. Next time, Rickie, shoot ffs!
Leslie Charteris Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Tough team to beat, difficult conditions - a good point earned. Shame West Ham let us down!
Crab Lungs Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Absolutely superb point. The stats will say Birmingham dominated but anyone watching would have seen us control most of the match. Appalling decision with the Fox bookings though
View From The Top Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 A good point, harsh red, excellent following and it really looks like we are getting back to our best. All, of course, IMHO.
Dalek2003 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Very good result. Very close and WHAM are going to be caught by someone.
saint_jas Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Take a draw, well done to the 1500 saints fans there. But wish we would shoot rather than pass it in the net sometimes. Dowd = pathetic.
Kingsland Red Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Another game out of the way, still second and one more point than I expected. The last two games , despite no win, has proved the squad have the balls for it.
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Would have taken a draw before hand but disappointed we didn't create more chances. I hope we appeal the red card as that was a joke. Unfortunately you cannot appeal a 2nd yellow, but yep - it was a joke of a decision. I have no idea what they saw there. Silly foul from Fox, yep, but how on earth is that ever a yellow card.
Northant Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 I think it is very difficult to analyse form etc when the conditions were like that tbh. It is credit to our team that we managed to get the ball down and pass when we did.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Good point. Two questions 1) where did Lallana disappear to in the second half - did he go home? 2) Rickie's free kick, what the f#ck? Just put your laces through it man! There are times it's a great move. 90th minute away at the toughest place in the division to go, in the snow, against a keeper who has had nothing to do the entire game, is not it. I am f****d off, purely because of that f*****g stupid thing he has just done.
Ewell Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 If Phil Dowd thinks the ball was running true and that was a spectacle we all wanted to see then he needs his head testing. Fair play and credit to both teams and both sets of fans that made the effort and I hope everyone gets home safe and sound. The game was summed up by Lamberts free kick for me, totally pointless and why bother, take a shot FFS!
channonball Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Good chance for harding to prove he is better than fox!
sidthesquid Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 I'll take that. I've heard of playing for a draw but that was ridiculous. I don't think we actually had a shot worthy of the name in the whole game. But who cares - a bloody handy point.
trousers Posted 4 February, 2012 Author Posted 4 February, 2012 Good point. Two questions 1) where did Lallana disappear to in the second half - did he go home? 2) Rickie's free kick, what the f#ck? Just put your laces through it man! I could understand the chip to the far post tactic if Ricky had been on the end of it rather than taking it!
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Happily take that point - well done lads, shame Sharp couldn't convert that chance though
T.REX Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Disappointed the game went ahead and would have been devastated if we had lost for the folks that went and the players who generally applied themselves well. Kelv made at least one very good stop and handled some awkward back passes pretty well i thought. Shame Sharp didn't get off to a flyer but it was an extremely difficult game to make a mark on though i was very impressed with Puncheon. All in all we gained a point more than Cardiff and stopped Birmingham's winning run so not a bad days work.
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 I'll take that. I've heard of playing for a draw but that was ridiculous. I don't think we actually had a shot worthy of the name in the whole game. But who cares - a bloody handy point. 0 shots (on and off target). Don't think we've had a game like that for years.
hypochondriac Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Wowzer. Granted the conditions were rough, but I have never seen us so negative (under Adkins that is). Don't be a muppet. The conditions were horrendous. It was an excellent point.
aintforever Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 \good point, how the hell was that a sending off!!
MOSaint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Going to be very close at the end of the season, West Ham have been riding their luck big time in the last few games. Beat the skates with a penalty Beat Forest with 2 penalties Got battered by Ipswich Beat Millwall with a goal that I still can't believe was given.
saints-cris Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Decent point in awful conditions. We still showed that we play some bloody good stuff, and in those conditions, is pretty impressive. Dissappointed not to test the keeper, Sharp shoulda hit his first time, and Ricky why didn't you just have a pop?! All in all, not dissapointed with the result or performance. How Fox got sent off I'll never know. 2 non booking = 1 red. Shocking.
Cascadia Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 That was a proper ''play to the conditions'' game from us. We are still in second, took 2 points off cardiff, and now 2 points off Birmingham. Just gotta keep it close and then I think our passing game will find goals in the next few games.
dan17 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Good point. Two questions 1) where did Lallana disappear to in the second half - did he go home? 2) Rickie's free kick, what the f#ck? Just put your laces through it man! Tbf where did Lallana go??
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Outrageous red card, can't even appeal it
BallBoy Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 It's not very often that I would say "settle for a point" but this was one of them. If we had lost this it would have given momentum not only to Birmingham but to others in the play off zone. We needed to show a bit of grit and authority and we did that. Job done.
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Tbf where did Lallana go?? They man marked him from what I could see, didn't get anywhere near the space as the first half - and couldn't roam.
Saint_clark Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 How come we can't appeal that?? You can't appeal individual bookings, I think.
skintsaint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 would of taken 0-0 before the game to be honest. We looked nice in build up but nothing in the final 3rd. They were worse than us, but created two good chances, one with the big african fella outjumping 3 of our guys and heading wide early on, and then straight after 2nd half kick off KD pulling off a great save from King. Other than that they done feck all as well.
Chez Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Excellent first half, pretty average second. We coped with the conditions well but I just wonder if it had been normal weather if we wouldn't have hurt them more in the final third. Sharp had such a good opportunity, but wanted it in his right and the chance was gone. That is what we paid the money for, that touch of class that meant he could take it straight away on his left. Give his a few weeks and he'll smack those in without thinking.
