theacademic Posted 4 February, 2012 Share Posted 4 February, 2012 Recently, I have been conducting research on the latest incidents of racism in football and whether this is a new phase or has been present for a number of years. Today (Friday) John Terry has been removed as captain of England ahead of his court appearance in July. I'm interested to know what you think of this and whether Terry should go to the European Championships. I've set up a 3-question survey that will take you less than a minute to complete - just go to: http://www.topfan.co.uk Thanks in advance.
Dr Who? Posted 4 February, 2012 Share Posted 4 February, 2012 I can see both sides of the argument, the innocent until proven guilty. Of course this may never be proven, but it does not mean he did not say or do anything. Could be one word against another. But I cannot see why AF would make this up, but I cannot see why JT would say or do anything that is racist, and especially to the brother or cousin of his England team mate. But as someone on here pinted out yesterday, in any other normal job you would be suspended from work until after you were found guilty or innocent. I do not think it should be any different in this case. So Chelsea should perhaps make a stance, but then you will get all sorts of claims, just to get top players suspended. In the normal work place this of course would not happen.
theacademic Posted 5 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 5 February, 2012 Good points Dr Who? and to all those who have completed the 1-minute survey. Much appreciated.
Wade Garrett Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 Innocent until proven guily? I watched that match on Sky, and it was obvious to a blind man what he said. Just because some expensive fancy lawyers might get him off, it doesn't change the fact that he clearly said something very racist.
Frank's cousin Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 Innocent until proven guily? I watched that match on Sky, and it was obvious to a blind man what he said. Just because some expensive fancy lawyers might get him off, it doesn't change the fact that he clearly said something very racist. Thing is he 'said' something racist... and even though I cant stand the bloke, I dont think he actually is - I do think he is a) very thick generally, which is why he feels he can say thsoe things without it meaning he IS racist, b) he is very thick and ignorant of the offence that it can cause, c) he is so thick that he forgets the 40 cameras on him and what thsi will do for his public imgae.... So my conclusion is that he is simply extyremely thick - and certainly too thick to captain the country.
Viking Warrior Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 Will the FA now sack capello re his comments about terry. He has been summoned to the FA today to explain his comments re Terry according to Sky. Mr Dave Davies seems tho think capello may be in breach of his contract for speaking out. How does daviesknow what capellos contract is? oh forgot he is the former Executive Direcor of the FA. I never liked him full of his own self importance
sadoldgit Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 I am not a racist but if I call someone at work an effin bl*ck b*stard I would expect to be suspended immediately and would eventually lose my job. Why should Terry be any different? If the man had any moral fibre he would have stood down as Captain as soon as charged. Now we have Talkpsort suggesting that other idiot Ashley Cole should be the next England captain. Bobby Moore must be turning in his grave. AussieDog Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 He's a **** and this isn't the first controversial moment. He may be a good footballer but he is NOT a good role model and as such I wouldn't want him to be captain of ANY team.
sadoldgit Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 I am not even sure that he is worth his place in the team on ability any more.

buctootim Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 Capello is right about the principal of being innocent until proven guilty. In the case of John Terry however I'd be quite happy if he was kneecapped as well.
alpine_saint Posted 6 February, 2012 Share Posted 6 February, 2012 (edited) The FA should sieze the moment to end Terry's career, and hopefully get rid of Capello early at no financial penalty as he throws a hissy fit. Gives the squad and new manager time to come together, build up team spirit (without some ego and marketing inflationary sh*t about "will new manager send SOS out to Beckham ?"), and have our first genuine go at a tournament since Euro 96. Team spirit will make up the performance gap to the loss of a few divas. Hopefully Rooney and Lampard will get injured too, Edited 6 February, 2012 by alpine_saint
