positivepete Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/03/the-secret-footballer Always an interesting read, and especially so this week.
dronskisaint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 That's good to read and a compelling financial argument even before the fair play regulations kick in. good find, thanks.
Ewell Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 I read this column most weeks and it is always a good read and he is usually bang on the money.
supersonic Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 after reading that, it makes the Morrison transfer seem even more ridiculous. I'm so glad we aren't spending money like no tomorrow like West Ham. For the reason that the think they can buy anyone and pay them stupid wages I hope they don't go up. It's true what has been said though, I went to school with James Henry (Millwall winger) who at the time was with Reading academy and he refused to play for our school team (Which still had Hal Robson-Kanu in) unless the school paid him £50 a game!! Jumped up ***t
John B Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/03/the-secret-footballer Always an interesting read, and especially so this week. Yes Mr Lowe did a good job with the Academy lets hope that Cortese who is doing similar manages to be as successful But not being in the PL must have an affect on the calibre of youngsters coming here
VectisSaint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 You have to question why young players should repsect players at clubs like Chelsea, Lampard thinks experienced players should be respected. Respect should be earned, it is not a rigt. What respect would anyone have for people like Terry, Cole or even Lampard to a lesser extent. Do players like this actually clean their boots any more, or do they just throw them away and put on a new pair every game? But it is a fact that clubs like Chelsea have done nothing in terms of their own youth player development, despite all the youngsters they attract. Maybe Jack Cork is an exception, but ironically he has gone the other way and joined Saints as an experienced pro, rather than as an academy player.
Prince Jazzbo Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 The development of young players is not new as far a we're concerned either. Goes back to the 60s with players like Channon then into 70s with Steve Williams etc we had a very good youth set up back then, through the 80s with the Wallaces, then Shearer etc. Its always been one of the things that the club can be proud of. Its unfortunate that we've never had the resources to keep hold of them. If we could change that then things could be a whole lot different. To some degree thats the key.
Saintandy666 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Oxlade-Chamberlain just scored... maybe I was wrong about him, thought he moved too early at first
LeBenali Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Is it Danny Murphy? Him or Scott Parker allegedly.
