The9 Posted 3 February, 2012 Share Posted 3 February, 2012 (edited) Well, why not ? Saints' Umbro deal has one more year to run, the current kits will both be replaced, and other teams in Umbro kits are already showing what they'll be wearing in 2012/13... so here goes. Canada Home and Away 2012/13 Rep of Ireland Away 2012/13 Universitario de Deportes 2012/13 Added 8 Feb : Atletico Paranaense 2012/13 Added 19 Feb : Sporting Cristal 2012/13 Basically an old template - the current Man City 3rd kit, which was last year's away kit. Fairly unique collar previously though. Sweden kit: England kit (and GK kit) The England home kit is pretty dull, with a single button under the collar - the GK kit is very nice despite the cross pattern retained in the weave - shorts and socks for this are basically plain red, there's a small triangle at the side of the shorts and two darker narrow red hoops on the sock turnover. Couple of design features of note, the U kit has this season's Man City collar but the "new" feature is the shoulder band on the back - I wonder if we'll end up with something like that..? Interesting to see the Paranaense home kit has the same features as the Canada one (and in stripes no less), whilst the away kit looks a bit like the Ireland away. Alsosurprised to see the keeper's shirt this early, as if previous years are anything to go by the goalkeeper shirt will be the same style as Saints' keeper wears... Just discovered I can only link 10 pics in one post, so after the first ten I'll link the others in the body of the thread itself. Quite like the Sweden kit. Peru away now added to the thread. The9 Posted 3 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 3 February, 2012 There's a new England kit being launched this month as well, which might have a few new features too. The Canada shirts have the 2011/2 England "grandad collar" with a new piping contrast colour, whilst the Ireland one has a version of the same neckline but with a traditional collar as seen on the Saints sash shirt. Seeing as I've bagsied top post I can add new Umbro styles as they're released.

The9 Posted 9 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 9 February, 2012 so the kit could in effect be made by anyone then. Not for the forthcoming season, but from 2013/14, yes. The aap3 sponsorship deal then runs out in 2014, so the next TWO season's kits will be for one year whether we renew with Umbro or not. Also worth knowing that Errea, Diadora, Lotto and Legea are all italian kit manufacturers, and most of their kits are of terrible quality and they have some pointlessly faffy designs or ugly branding. The9 Posted 9 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 9 February, 2012 Umbro shirts are so cheap and tacky. Really wish we'd try something else. Don't much like the current one either. They tend to look like they've spent about 10 minutes on them. Umbro shirts are by far the best looking shirts of the major manufacturers at the moment, and the quality is comparable to anyone, and the soft flock-type material they usually use is better than plenty of the horrible polyester weaves out there this season. Having said that, Saints kits usually having printed stripes on them tends to make them look less good compared to plain colours. Based on early leaks of Man U (tartan checks) and Barcelona (ugly blended colours) shirts from Nike, and the boring adidas templates (again), Umbro shirts are going to be some of the best again next season. The9 Posted 10 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 10 February, 2012 (edited) It depends on promotion, I'd guess. If Umbro also make the shirts for Sunderland we'll potentially get something whacky to distinguish us from them. I think I read something this week about Sunderland going to adidas soon actually. To be fair, we both have pretty plain kits this season and they don't look the same. There are about 4 major options so we don't look the same without even having different stripes : striped sleeves, white sleeves, red sleeves, hooped Man City style away sleeves. Plus there are at least 3 cuff colour options and various different types of collar. This season we've got white sleeves and they've got striped, they have a V-neck and we have the "Y" collar, they have black cuffs and we have red. The body of the shirt is similar and the shirt still look plenty different enough, though they also have a vaguely ugly diagonal stripe across the back of the shoulders. The9 Posted 10 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 10 February, 2012 I think the Nike kits always seem a higher quality. I have a few, international shirts, a Barca shirt and whatever opinions of the design, they are a better quality. Nice having the dri-fit shirts too. Adidas do some good kits. Not sure I've ever seen an Umbro shirt I've really liked. I think the most recent Nike shirts feel plasticky, not surprising when there's a load of plastic bottles in the process - also Barca players discovered earlier this season that their shirts doubled in weight because the shirts were holding the sweat in them, which isn't something you want from your athletic performance garment. Some of the current Nike designs with the diagonal / wide narrow striped effect are bloody horrible too. The biggest problem with adidas is their adherence to basically 4 templates with very few tweaks. At least Nike (ugly designs) and Umbro (subtle tweaks) manage to make their templates different - though the current Saints socks are the same as Wales'... If aap3 renew/extend their sponsorship this may not be the case! But if we make it to the Prem then i don't think aap 3 would be able to offer the £££ required. aintforever Posted 29 February, 2012 Share Posted 29 February, 2012 That is the dullest England kit I have ever seen, and that is saying something. If they are going to change it every 5mins to rip off the fans they could at least come up up with a new design not just change the collar and colour of badge on the cheapest sh!t they could mass produce in China. It's kind of appropriate for the England, all about making money and below average standard.
The9 Posted 1 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 1 March, 2012 I'm not being funny, but the outgoing England kit lasted 18 months, the previous one arrived in October 2009 and departed immediately after the 2010 World Cup. It's all a bit pointless isn't it. If it is not due till 2013 / 14 season, you will also need to add some sort of acknowledgement of our 2012/13 Premier League Champions Status into the design, and also add another design for our Champions league Campaign as well. Alanh Posted 1 March, 2012 Share Posted 1 March, 2012 I'm not being funny but why on earth are we discussing the next Saints kit when it's over 16 months months away? Two reasons really. The9 is fascinated by all kit related matters and so generates these discussions with more passion that just about anyone else on here. Secondly, our new kit will be out in June / July this year as the current is a one season only design.
The9 Posted 1 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 1 March, 2012 (edited) I'm not being funny but why on earth are we discussing the next Saints kit when it's over 16 months months away? Erm, because it's not 16 months away, both the current kits are changing this summer, so they will actually both have changed within the next five months. This has been known since 2008 when Saints signed the Umbro deal - 2 new shirts every season. Admin in 2009 put paid to changing the flybe Umbro striped kit after one year, but every other kit has changed annually since 2008. Note the dates here : http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2398194,00.html And here : So there's one reason. Another might be to inform our fanbase of this as they clearly haven't been paying attention. The third is that, yeah, I like discussing kits, and so do other people judging by last year's thread. Oh, and in case anyone's interested - 25% off training wear : http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2629232,00.html You can also now get the 2010/11 (125th Anniversary) Saints away shorts (black) and socks (red with black tops), and the Saints home socks (the plain black ones) from SportsDirect.com. First time any Saints kit has been sold anywhere except the club shops and online for about 15 years, and perhaps a sign of how Cortese wants to more widely market the club when the current Umbro deal expires in 2013. The9 Posted 1 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 1 March, 2012 (edited) Can you? Arent they just bog standard Umbro designs without a Southampton badge on them ? The socks are used by a few clubs/teams (eg this season's Saints home socks are also Wales' home socks, last season's plain black ones were also Wales goalkeeper socks) but the shorts are Saints ones. There's also a black 2010/11 kids' training top on there : http://www.sportsdirect.com/Products/Default.aspx?DescriptionFilter=southampton You sort of have a point regarding kit on SportsDirect.com, in that the black home socks 2010/11 and the red away (above) from the same season were both on there last season, but they weren't being branded as Saints kit, which they are now. They were branded for other Umbro teams and just happen to be the same - for the socks, anyway. I haven't linked to the green and/or light blue keepers' kit which is on there as they've got Sunderland badges on them - but if anyone wants a pair of Kelvin's away GK socks from last season in kiddie sizes, here are some Linfield GK socks which are identical. JJB also have the green GK socks from 2010/11 in a BOGOF deal, they're also Northern Ireland GK socks : http://www.jjbsports.com/nothern-ireland-home-socks-2010/12/northern-ireland/shop/fcp-product/14978 For the record, no other Umbro side has our away socks this season, the nearest are Joe Hart's Man City away GK socks which have the 2011/12 grey feet, but DON'T have the Umbro logo, which the Saints away socks do have, in blue : Edited 1 March, 2012 by The9
The9 Posted 1 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 1 March, 2012 (edited) Oh, also just spotted that JJB are now flogging off their Wales home socks for £5 which is half what Saints are charging for them.
