Saint in Paradise Posted 2 February, 2012 Share Posted 2 February, 2012 I wonder if they studied a certain poster on here? Yes must have I think  There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy. The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience. http://www.livescience.com/18132-intelligence-social-conservatism-racism.html . pap Posted 2 February, 2012 Share Posted 2 February, 2012 I like this part:- Prejudice is of particular interest because understanding the roots of racism and bias could help eliminate them, Hodson said. For example, he said, many anti-prejudice programs encourage participants to see things from another group's point of view. That mental exercise may be too taxing for people of low IQ. It's an interesting topic, and to be fair, the article doesn't say all left-wingers are smarter than all right-wingers. Just mostly, they are. Frank's cousin Posted 2 February, 2012 Share Posted 2 February, 2012 NOthing surprizing in that really - most would say that racism is the result of ignorance (which is usually due to either lack of education or lack of IQ) and the hate that follows is usually the result of kids being brought up in such an environment. Its a bit tenuous to then link conservative views to low IQ, even I fnd that an over simplification. there are many 'intelligent tories' ;-) ...although judging y some of those neo-christian-right wing nutters in the USA its hard to tell... It would be very difficult to establish any kind of link between IQ and a lack of social compassion. Think you would find many that are thick as mince from all political slants. There are afterall evoloutionary selective pressures for both conservatism and self interest, as there are for a more social/compassionate position in the environment. Stubby Posted 2 February, 2012 Share Posted 2 February, 2012 Perhaps the article itself is an example of prejudice - prejudice against conservatives.

Wes Tender Posted 2 February, 2012 Share Posted 2 February, 2012 (edited) The OP read this little diatribe and then made the connection with Conservative, instead of conservative. Does this inability to comprehend the difference between the two point to a low IQ? Edited 2 February, 2012 by Wes Tender

Ken Tone Posted 2 February, 2012 Share Posted 2 February, 2012 Has Ontario moved from Canada? LOL I thought this research finding was quite well known already actually (even without Trousers' proving the point!) Just look at the 'literature' of organisations such as the EDL, and it gives an idea of the IQ of most of the target readership.
