Smuggled a bottle lid into the Northam. When I had sat down and then went to get myself a pie the steward stopped me and said I had a bottle in my coat. I duly gave over the lid but he didn't seem to notice the other bottle in my coat. Anyway, my point is, if I was in block 40, why shouldn't I be allowed it since it was half empty and I couldn't hurl it at the away fans even if I wanted to and wouldn't want to throw it at the home fans?

We've been bringing spare bottle tops and occasionally nicking them from behind the counters for a couple of seasons now... utterly pointless when people can still chuck coins, etc.

I was stopped going into Millwall on Saturday because I had a tiny frisbee in my pocket that my son had found at the park the day before. Steward told me I wouldn't be allowed in with it because it could be throw it on the pitch. I challenged him to even throw it 5 yards (it's a terrible frisbee that was probably free with a magazine) at which point his supervisor came over and said it was fine.

The whole bottle top thing is ridiculous because a full bottle without a lid would still easily travel far enough to reach the pitch.

Mind you that does remind me of the Pompey cup game at St Mary's in 2010. I was in Block 1 and saw a Pompey fan try to throw a bottle into the Saints fans only for him to mess it up completely and soak a skate a few rows away from him.

It's the same as many things in life today - the minority spoil it for the majority. For every **** willing to throw things at other fans or players, there are 1000 fans who just want to enjoy their day, but the behaviour of that one **** ultimately shapes the rules for everyone as it's just not worth the risk. Sadly these ****s don't come with warning signs, they tend to look like a normal person so aren't always easy to spot.

I therefore don't think it's ridiculous, peoples safety is important, I just think it's a real shame that such ****s get off on acting this way.

Small plastic bottle cap or scalding hot pie??

I think the bottle cap would do slightly less damage...

after i read that i had an image of a mass pie fight across the Northam :D

which would be best for maximum damage ?

It seems daft but rules are rules look what's happened in Egypt the fans there took knives to the game . So while it may seem daft risk assessments are now the name of the game

Completely irrelevant to this topic.

Chicken Tikka HTH ;)

+1 ... I still have an effin' Chicken Balti Pie stain on my jeans from the Blackpool game ... Vanish won't touch it.

Meat Pies obviously. Ask Bennie Hill as "a hot meat pie hit him in the eye and Ernie hit the dust." Poor Ernie.

You really are a big time gangster......I suspect you will be moving on to bigger things soon like running with scissors and crossing roads before the green man flashes :)

Since we got relegated from the prem they haven't removed them in the family section. I took 3 into the Cardiff match, bag was searched as usual, the steward asked if I had any cans, I told him just bottles - no probs.

I think the stewarding at SMS is out of control - i was told of soemone who was unpleasantly ejected at half time at the leicester game for having a hip flask. Tell him off maybe but eject someone - compeletly disproportionate and fascist. Also too rude and unhelpful.

As I understand it (it's what I was once told at a gig), the removal of bottle tops has nothing to do with them being thrown. It is to do with empty bottles on the floor, especially on steps. If a bottle is trodden on that has a top on it is more of a hazard as it won't crush and your foot would roll causing you to lose balance and fall. I guess someone must have had an accident somewhere and sued the venue, now they all do it for fear of litigation.

LOL - I don't think they are worried you are going to hurl a bottle top. I think they are worried you are going to throw a bottle full of liquid (with the top on it). Without the top, the bottle becomes less of a missile. A scalding hot pie isn't much good at rendering a bottle full of liquid watertight :)

perhaps Saint Clake. It only takes one bottle to spark trouble amongst the crowd . or if it hit a player the club would be heavily fined if one moron threw a bottleon to the pitch. Yes the egypt thing is the extreme example and it sounds more like opposition political parties using soccer to vent their angst

Sat in Chapel. Haven't had the bottle lid removed in about three seasons now. Since Chris Eaglestaff said it wasn't a problem. Water sold inside ground has bottle top left on as well.

You don't need a lid on it anyway. As long as the bottle is around half full you'll still be able to launch it a fair distance and tw*t the bastards

In the Kingsland we've been allowed to keep the lids on our bottles for years.Full picnics with flasks, no problem. Still can't understand why they have to look in women's handbags but don't search mens pockets and coats. How many women have been arrested for hooliganism? The way they search so quickly, they would never find anything if you were bent on concealing it, so it's a total waste of time.

That makes a lot more sense.

Where do we stand with a thermos of coffee? Is that permitted under these draconian laws??

I had no problem taking one in on Tuesday evening. That said I do sit in the Kingsland -not sure how the stewards would feel about flasks being taken into the Northam.......

It does depend on where you sit. In the Kingsland there's no problem keeping the lids but you've got no chance of keeping them in the Itchen.

In fact, I had a great session with one of the idiot girls working the refreshment counter in the Itchen on the day of the Saints promotion party game last season when she wouldn't let me have my top in case I "throw it at the away fans." Complete lunacy.

Why not just drink the pop? Just a thought.

Coke's not that nice, its too much to drink it all at once. It's just for when you get thirsty which is usually over the course of the match I guess.

I will rue the day they ban aubergines from football grounds.

Who can forget the aubergine pitch invasion during Pard's last match at Brizzle.

So don't think it won't happen!

I still have a Chicken Balti Pie from the very same game that I'm waiting to cool down before I can effin' eat it!

LOL ... that's exactly where my trouble started!

Rules are rules, they do not know who you are and what your mental state is. You cannot say that in this part of the ground you can have bottle tops, and in this part you cannot. One rule makes it nice and simple.

Celery has been banned. Poor celery...

Flippin' hasn't. Saw some into the Northam Stand last season!

Last time I saw an aubergine at a game was Bristol Rovers last season. Bring back the away aubergine!
