When I had sat down and then went to get myself a pie the steward stopped me and said I had a bottle in my coat. I duly gave over the lid but he didn't seem to notice the other bottle in my coat. Anyway, my point is, if I was in block 40, why shouldn't I be allowed it since it was half empty and I couldn't hurl it at the away fans even if I wanted to and wouldn't want to throw it at the home fans?

Steward told me I wouldn't be allowed in with it because it could be throw it on the pitch. I challenged him to even throw it 5 yards (it's a terrible frisbee that was probably free with a magazine) at which point his supervisor came over and said it was fine. The whole bottle top thing is ridiculous because a full bottle without a lid would still easily travel far enough to reach the pitch. Mind you that does remind me of the Pompey cup game at St Mary's in 2010. I was in Block 1 and saw a Pompey fan try to throw a bottle into the Saints fans only for him to mess it up completely and soak a skate a few rows away from him.

For every **** willing to throw things at other fans or players, there are 1000 fans who just want to enjoy their day, but the behaviour of that one **** ultimately shapes the rules for everyone as it's just not worth the risk. Sadly these ****s don't come with warning signs, they tend to look like a normal person so aren't always easy to spot. I therefore don't think it's ridiculous, peoples safety is important, I just think it's a real shame that such ****s get off on acting this way.

Tell him off maybe but eject someone - compeletly disproportionate and fascist. Also too rude and unhelpful.

It is to do with empty bottles on the floor, especially on steps. If a bottle is trodden on that has a top on it is more of a hazard as it won't crush and your foot would roll causing you to lose balance and fall. I guess someone must have had an accident somewhere and sued the venue, now they all do it for fear of litigation.

I think they are worried you are going to throw a bottle full of liquid (with the top on it). Without the top, the bottle becomes less of a missile. A scalding hot pie isn't much good at rendering a bottle full of liquid watertight

Still can't understand why they have to look in women's handbags but don't search mens pockets and coats. How many women have been arrested for hooliganism? The way they search so quickly, they would never find anything if you were bent on concealing it, so it's a total waste of time.

In fact, I had a great session with one of the idiot girls working the refreshment counter in the Itchen on the day of the Saints promotion party game last season when she wouldn't let me have my top in case I "throw it at the away fans." Complete lunacy.
