scott_saints Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 For Saturday?? Seeing as we won without him n' all that!!
paris Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Yes is my first thought but second thought says no give him a rest wouldn't do any harm ,put him on the bench then if needed bring him on...
slickmick Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Don't change a winning team. He might be more hungry to play, if he has to win his place back.
ottery st mary Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 If fit and fully recovered a cert for the team. If not 100% rest another game. The second half at Preston can never be compared to the next game and others may have injury doubts. To me he is a first team player above most of those that played second half at Preston and may never replicate their performance as BWP proves so many times wherever he plays.....Adam is class.
saintrich Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Defo bring Lallana back in if he's fit. We were ****e in the first half and only played well second half cos BWP and Gobern are impact subs, i'm not so sure they'd have played that well if they started the game.
Hatch Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 the team that started was 2-0 down at half time. Change it.
trousers Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 When was the last time we fielded an unchanged line-up?
West End Saint Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 I would play him if fit the lad has been different class this season and we need to get him in the team
Bailey Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 I'd be tempted to give the 11 that turned the game around at Preston the nod to start with Lallana on the bench. It wouldn't do Lallana any harm to have a slightly longer rest and then we can always bring him on if things aren't going our way.
Chez Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 He offers real quality so must come back into the side when fully fit, however I don't think there is a need to play him in the hole as he can play anywhere.
Bailey Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Just saw this too . . . http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/3815525.Lallana_vows__I_ll_fight_for_Saints_place/
Arizona Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 I'd go with: - - - - - - Davis Cork - Perry - Pearce - Mills Lallana - Surman - MS - Gobern - - - - - - - - Skacel - - - - - DMG Don't start BWP because whenever we do he is gash. Have him on the bench.
Weston Super Saint Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 when was the last time we fielded an unchanged line-up? 1926.
SNSUN Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 I wouldn't start Gobern. Needs more sub appearances to make an impact. Yes I'd start Lallana, but I would think JP would give BWP a bigger role after a succesful(ish) cameo.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Nope, I'd give him a run out in the second half to see what he can do at the moment. Not at all impressed by a deep striker who can't strike. Think he might need a couple of games on the bench to learn humility again.
saints_is_the_south Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 I'd keep BWP on the bench. It's no secret that whenever he starts he's sh!te, yet whenever he comes off the bench he makes an impact & causes the other side trouble.
saint1977 Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Have to make changes as the first half was rubbish. I'd go with Davis Cork Lancashire Pearce Skacel Lallana Schniederlin Surman Gobern BWP DMG Feel like we need a strike partnership. BWP has played some alright games in a pair, but I've never seen him do well alone or out wide. I'd swap Lancashire for Perry (if recovered from the snots) and BWP for Robertson (ditto Perry) from that side. BWP is a sub-only for me when the opposition's back 4 are tiring. Would definately bring Lallana back in though.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Have to make changes as the first half was rubbish. I'd go with Davis Cork Lancashire Pearce Skacel Lallana Schniederlin Surman Gobern BWP DMG Feel like we need a strike partnership. BWP has played some alright games in a pair, but I've never seen him do well alone or out wide. That looks a good line up. I might be tempted to include Perry and Euell to add a bit of experience but Lallana and Gobern are definately better option than starting Smith and Thomson again.
stockbridge_saint Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 lallana has got to be one of the first names down on the teamsheet in my opinion.
L1Minus10 Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 He has to play if fit. You pick your best team... are you telling me he's not a better player than BWP, Gobern, McGoldrick, Thomson.... Using the daft formation that JP uses.... I'd go with ----------------------McGoldrick ---Gobern-------------Surman-------------------Lallana -----------Wotton--------------Schneiderlin ---Skacel---------Pearce--------Perry/Lancashire---Cork -----------------------Davis Round pegs in round holes, it will never catch on.
kelkel31 Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 right to say that the rest wouldnt be a bad idea, but if jp intends to play him in the right way, not on the wing then it maybe foolish to not play him, another win would give the team some breathing space for a few weeks, taking the pressure off them.
Kingsland Codger Posted 5 November, 2008 Posted 5 November, 2008 I'm of the view that, like it or not, the purpose of every game we play is not only to win points but also to show off our assets with a view to attracting a buyer for them; thus raising some essential income. Given the above and if we assume a player such as Lallana is worth some half-decent money then I would expect him to be put in the shop window at every opportunity.
LaptopSaint Posted 5 November, 2008 Posted 5 November, 2008 Lallana and Euell in for Thomson and Smith. WIth Oscar and BWWW coming off the bench.
mprobert Posted 5 November, 2008 Posted 5 November, 2008 or maybe even play White "in the hole" for a half (in form - two reserve hat-tricks to his name this season)
corsacar saint Posted 5 November, 2008 Posted 5 November, 2008 Yes, along with schneiderlin he is one of our two best players.
krissyboy31 Posted 5 November, 2008 Posted 5 November, 2008 Play your best available side. Lallana would easily be in that, therefore the answer is YES!!
Saints67 Posted 5 November, 2008 Posted 5 November, 2008 --------------------McGoldrick------------------------- ---Gobern-------------Lallana-------------------BWP--- -----------Surman--------------Schneiderlin------------ ---Skacel---------Pearce--------Perry/Lancashire---Cork -------------------------Davis------------------------- Subs Wotton Perry/Lancashire White Forecast Gillet/Smith
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 6 November, 2008 Posted 6 November, 2008 It depends on whether Jan feels that Lallana's replacement was one of those most responsible for the improved 2nd half performance or not. If someone came in and did well, I reckon they deserve the chance to start this match. If Jan feels that the credit belongs elsewhere then he might just consider slotting Lallana in alongside some of the guys who did make an impact. I know the argument about "playing your best team" but this team is young and there is not so much difference in quality across the team so I'd think it becomes more important to show the lads that things have changed since the days of George Burley and good performances are rewarded with chances in the first team. It also helps focus the mind for those players who (despite being young) think that a small, young squad means they are automatically more likely to get a game than at a bigger club so they don't need to try so hard.
stockbridge_saint Posted 7 November, 2008 Posted 7 November, 2008 i see people are jumping on the gobern bandwagon already....we are an optimistic lot!
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 8 November, 2008 Posted 8 November, 2008 Why are so many people putting McGoldrick in the striker's role? He almost never plays well there, but seems to profit more from being in the hole so he can run at the defence as we saw second half in the last game. The trouble is who to play there as I agree BWP only does well when coming on as a sub. Peterson maybe? I'd be tempted to stick with Gobern on the left, but feel Lallana will bring more quality to the team than Thomson, so I would bring him back in. Davis Cork Lancashire Pearce Skacel Schneiderlin Surman Lallana Gobern McGoldrick Paterson Subs: Forecast, Perry, BWP, Smith/White, Euell/Wotton
