sfc4prem Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 We found them out earlier in the season, I see no reason why we can't tomorrow.
Chez Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Long chat with my bluenose pal. He said Zigic is really struggling with a knee injury. If he doesn't make it King will start. They will play five in midfield. They use two deep lying central midfielders. They try to keep it short. Starting through Caldwell. Lots of triangles and then get it out wide. If they go in front they will sit back and try and hit with fast breaks. They are absolutely flying and looking for 7 in a row. He's usually pretty straight up about the blues, and knows the Saints well and he felt they'd turn us over. I found it hard to argue. We'll see though.
Chez Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 We found them out earlier in the season, I see no reason why we can't tomorrow.they're a totally different proposition now. Jordan Mutch is back in the side and so is Zigic. Two big players for them. But their UEFA run has gelled the side and filled them with confidence.
Stepgar Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Just read on sky that brum have a pretty much fit squad!, zigic fit apparently.

trousers Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 He's really struggling with a knee injury apparently. Mutch or Zidic?
jamesfp1 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 If it wasn't being televised - 3-1 Saints. Because it is - 3-0 Brum
up and away Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Long chat with my bluenose pal. He said Zigic is really struggling with a knee injury. If he doesn't make it King will start. I find it hard to argue with that as well, given their form. We are improving but I still feel that Cardiff didn't have the midfield presence Leicester had, but Brum are very close. Once again for us, I feel it will come down to the simple fact of which team controls midfield. If we had Chaplow back and in form on the right(or Guly on a lucky day), I would fancy our chances. But without someone to do the defensive work and provide threat, Brum look favourites to me. Puncheon put in a very good performance against Cardiff, but I feel more is required against Brum and it's difficult to see Puncheon having a full tank. We are definitely on the up though, where I feel our midfield were finally dominant against Cardiff because of the pressure from the forwards, have not seen that for a while. The direct running of Puncheon, Lee and later Lallana had it's effect against Cardiff in the second half and that was a definite improvement from Lallana. If we have continued to improve from that Cardiff game, I can see us getting something. Without an in form Chaplow though I feel Brum will have too much for us in midfield but it's going to be a very interesting marker to see how far we have come. We are on the up and I would expect/hope us to demonstrate that to West Ham, Birmingham may be that game too soon though.
Appy Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 If it wasn't being televised - 3-1 Saints. Because it is - 3-0 Brum Why? What an odd comment.
trousers Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Why? What an odd comment. To be fair, he has statistics on his side!

What a surprise that a brummie thinks they'll turn us over! Has anyone forgotten just how poor they were at SMS? Probably the worst side to come down all season! Their personell hasnt exactly improved since then. If we play well we will win. I think everyone is getting way too carried away about how good brum are. Ok, they've scored a lot of goals recently but if you watch highlights of their Leeds match, they gave so many opportunities to Leeds which were missed. Lambo and sharp won't be so forgiving today I don't think. As you say though, we shall see!
Appy Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 To be fair, he has statistics on his side! We haven't lost on Sky since the first game of last season.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 We haven't lost on Sky since the first game of last season. wasn't Leicester on Sky?
Saint Garrett Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 We lost against Leicester on Sky. Nearly lost Reading + Blackpool.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Still think we might regret this match not being postponed.Still there's Billy Sharp to look forward to I suppose.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 just about to leave for the snowy midlands, hope we win and hopefuly get back before monday, coys
THEVMAN Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Hope sharp startsStarting on the bench, same team as Cardiff,Guily on the bench as well
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Starting on the bench, same team as Cardiff,Guily on the bench as well Assuming then the bench is - Bart, Guly, Sharp, Falque/Holmes, Hammond ? Starting 11 of... Davis Richardson - Fonte - Martin - Fox Puncheon - Cork - Morgan - Lallana Connolly - Lambert
Nexstar Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Disappointed Connolly is starting then. If you have a poor game we should be making the most of our strength in depth, particularly upfront.
saints-cris Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Bit disappointed to see Connelly start when we have so many other options, he just isn't doing it at the moment.
mikee Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Starting on the bench, same team as Cardiff,Guily on the bench as well Hopefully team that finished - with Lee in for Connolly (who is a liability at the moment) otherwise Lee wont even make the bench which would be very strange, particularly given Connolly's inefectiveness.
jamesfp1 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Why? What an odd comment. We don't do well on sky.
Bad Wolf Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Had a dream. 2-0 up...Then drew 2-2...Bart saved a penalty...Dunno where Kelvin was.
Toadhall Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Disappointed Connolly is starting then. If you have a poor game we should be making the most of our strength in depth, particularly upfront. Ditto
Saint Charlie Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 If Guly and Sharp on the bench then Falque and Lee might not make the squad!
farawaysaint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Ditto Connoly hasn't really been effective the last few games, but Adkins can't just drop Sharp in the dep end I guess. Half time substitution?
Dalek2003 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Very difficult game, but have a feeling we could nick this one !
Suhari Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Connoly hasn't really been effective the last few games, but Adkins can't just drop Sharp in the dep end I guess. Half time substitution? Why not put Sharp in from the start? He knows the league, he's match fit, and he's scoring more than Connolly. Will be very disappointed if we don't start Sharp. Even more so if Lee isn't in the squad.
Saint Garrett Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Very disappointed to see Connolly starting and Sharp on the bench, also IF Guly is match fit then he should be starting instead of Connolly. He clearly needs a rest.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Very disappointed to see Connolly starting and Sharp on the bench, also IF Guly is match fit then he should be starting instead of Connolly. He clearly needs a rest. I think I shall wait until I see the team sheet though.
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Disappointed Connolly is starting then. If you have a poor game we should be making the most of our strength in depth, particularly upfront. Agreed. He is simply not in the form of the start of the season. Anonymous in the second half against Cardiff.
Toadhall Saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Connoly hasn't really been effective the last few games, but Adkins can't just drop Sharp in the dep end I guess. Half time substitution? I'd start with Sharp - he's been round long enough in this league. DC just hasn't cut the mustard of late - nothing seems to be going his way.
Wade Garrett Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Absolutely pointless signing Sharp and leaving him on the bench for a big game. Lee showed more than Connolly did the other night.
Leicestersaint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 I would definitely start with Sharp - and also Chaplow is available. This is a very tough game - we will do well to get a point but I think we might just win it. I'm nervous already!
Appy Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 We don't do well on sky. See my previous post, that is a myth.
trousers Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Good to see Adkins keeping faith in Connolly. Sharp, if/when required, will come off the bench very hungry to prove he should be starting ahead of Connolly. And Connolly will be busting a gut to prove the opposite. Clever man management from Adkins. Would have been so easy to have pandered to the obvious clamour to start Sharp. Birmingham will also have assumed that Sharp would start, so puts them on the back foot a little (tactically). IMHO of course...
sfc4prem Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Connolly is ****e at the moment so how that puts Birmingham on the back foot is beyond me.

St Chalet Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Chaplow needs to be re-introduced gradually. Agree, and not on a frozen pitch IMHO.
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Agree, and not on a frozen pitch IMHO. Yep, good point. Any players with knocks need to be used sparingly this weekend.
trousers Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Connolly is ****e at the moment so how that puts Birmingham on the back foot is beyond me. It's ok. I'll explain the concept after the game.
jamesfp1 Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 See my previous post, that is a myth. I would if I was fussed. Was just making a comment as we havent done well on Sky lately.
maxi_sopez Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 How does everyone know that Connolly is starting? Adkins confirm it? But totally agree if he starts how frustrating. Start Sharp!
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 How does everyone know that Connolly is starting? Adkins confirm it? But totally agree if he starts how frustrating. Start Sharp! THEVMAN - 90% success rate on his team news!
latter day saint Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 THEVMAN - 90% success rate on his team news! only 90% ? you should know thats not good enough for most of the mongs on this site
THEVMAN Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 only 90% ? you should know thats not good enough for most of the mongs on this siteI`ll get my coat.
BallBoy Posted 4 February, 2012 Posted 4 February, 2012 Even at 90% an 11.40 prediction for a 17.20 start is pretty optimistic. I hope this is one of the 10% as I don't think Connoly is right for this one.
