Saints V Brum Build Up

Long chat with my bluenose pal. He said Zigic is really struggling with a knee injury. If he doesn't make it King will start. They will play five in midfield. They use two deep lying central midfielders. They try to keep it short. Starting through Caldwell. Lots of triangles and then get it out wide. If they go in front they will sit back and try and hit with fast breaks. They are absolutely flying and looking for 7 in a row. He's usually pretty straight up about the blues, and knows the Saints well and he felt they'd turn us over. I found it hard to argue. We'll see though.

We found them out earlier in the season, I see no reason why we can't tomorrow.
they're a totally different proposition now. Jordan Mutch is back in the side and so is Zigic. Two big players for them. But their UEFA run has gelled the side and filled them with confidence.

I find it hard to argue with that as well, given their form. We are improving but I still feel that Cardiff didn't have the midfield presence Leicester had, but Brum are very close. Once again for us, I feel it will come down to the simple fact of which team controls midfield. If we had Chaplow back and in form on the right(or Guly on a lucky day), I would fancy our chances. But without someone to do the defensive work and provide threat, Brum look favourites to me. Puncheon put in a very good performance against Cardiff, but I feel more is required against Brum and it's difficult to see Puncheon having a full tank. We are definitely on the up though, where I feel our midfield were finally dominant against Cardiff because of the pressure from the forwards, have not seen that for a while. The direct running of Puncheon, Lee and later Lallana had it's effect against Cardiff in the second half and that was a definite improvement from Lallana.

If we have continued to improve from that Cardiff game, I can see us getting something. Without an in form Chaplow though I feel Brum will have too much for us in midfield but it's going to be a very interesting marker to see how far we have come. We are on the up and I would expect/hope us to demonstrate that to West Ham, Birmingham may be that game too soon though.

What a surprise that a brummie thinks they'll turn us over! Has anyone forgotten just how poor they were at SMS? Probably the worst side to come down all season! Their personell hasnt exactly improved since then. If we play well we will win. I think everyone is getting way too carried away about how good brum are. Ok, they've scored a lot of goals recently but if you watch highlights of their Leeds match, they gave so many opportunities to Leeds which were missed. Lambo and sharp won't be so forgiving today I don't think. As you say though, we shall see!

Starting on the bench, same team as Cardiff,Guily on the bench as well

Assuming then the bench is - Bart, Guly, Sharp, Falque/Holmes, Hammond ?

Starting 11 of...

Davis

Richardson - Fonte - Martin - Fox

Puncheon - Cork - Morgan - Lallana

Connolly - Lambert

Hopefully team that finished - with Lee in for Connolly (who is a liability at the moment) otherwise Lee wont even make the bench which would be very strange, particularly given Connolly's inefectiveness.

Connoly hasn't really been effective the last few games, but Adkins can't just drop Sharp in the dep end I guess. Half time substitution?

Why not put Sharp in from the start?

He knows the league, he's match fit, and he's scoring more than Connolly.

Will be very disappointed if we don't start Sharp. Even more so if Lee isn't in the squad.

Good to see Adkins keeping faith in Connolly. Sharp, if/when required, will come off the bench very hungry to prove he should be starting ahead of Connolly. And Connolly will be busting a gut to prove the opposite.

Clever man management from Adkins. Would have been so easy to have pandered to the obvious clamour to start Sharp.

Birmingham will also have assumed that Sharp would start, so puts them on the back foot a little (tactically).

IMHO of course...
