Brummieinhants Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Afternoon chaps! I'm a Birmingham (obviously) but i have lived down in sunny Hampshire for the last 20 years, always liked saints, mainly because most of the kids at my school were Pompey fans and I hated the bloody lot of them. I thought I would clear up a few things.... Firstly, the post about attendance. IF the guy had quoted the rest of that thread rather than the one mong who seemed to be kicking around at the time you would all have seen the multiple comments about how crap our attendance is and has been pretty much been since we first got relegated under Bruce playing some of the worst football you could imagine - and things have only just started improving. Secondly, we have undersoil heating and a JCB. Unless we get so much snow you wouldnt drive anyway, dont worry . Thirdly, Who said they saw empty seats at Villa? I've not missed a Villa home game since we got promoted in 02 and there has neever to my memory been an attendance of less that around 28k. Fourth on my little list, Birmingham has got its bad areas, but so do all cities. Obviously i live close to Soton and to be fair the Brum city center really does make Soton look poor. and St Mary's appears to have been built in the ruins of Hiroshima but Small Heath where St Andrews is isn't much better. Now back to Football. Under Hughton we really are playing some great stuff, the team seem to have finally worked each other out and for the first time since our first promotion campaign I'm really really enjoying games and I'm expecting a good match up between two really good Footballing sides. Good luck with the rest of the season, Keep Right On. Brummieinhants PS. lets all hope Pompey get wound up - as i said, horrible city, horrible club, horrible fans!
Brummieinhants Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 PPS - I really need to learn to proof read. Fail. I hope i still get my points across though
Winchester Red Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Good to hear from you Brummieinhants. How much of an impact do you think the players you lost in the transfer window will have on your team. Were they central (like Fonte and Lallana to us) or can you get by fine without them?
hutch Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 You're not getting any points. Not this weekend anyway.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Well at least Lee should feel at home at St Mary's!
ottery st mary Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Afternoon chaps! Saints to win this Saturday but hopefully you can follow us into the big boyz league.. After Saturday..Good luck to you;) Between us we can beat all the others.. WIFM
Brummieinhants Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 To be honest Ridgewell leaving is great news. The guy had one run of matches where he was very god at left back but has a centre half he is poor and to be honest his heart has not been in it at all this season. Good riddance. Beausajour is a tough one. The guy was one paced and couldnt take a set piece to save his life but he did offer us good balance and allows Murph to bomb up from LB. I for one, think he will be missed. The real great thing for us this transfer window was hanging on to Redmond who is a great prospect and of course the reveltation that is N'Daw. He really is a beast. he breaks up play, allows Mutch time and space to do what he wants and does the simple things really really well which to be honest is all you really need at this level. Winchester Red. What makes you think you will be the first team to win at Stans in the league this season? What do you have in your locker that Wolves, FC Brugge, West Ham and Leicester don't? And if your answer is "because we are better than you" or "because we beat you 4-1 at home" then dont bother because i want a real well thought out football answer . For instance - I think we will win this weekend because: Our defense is quite simply brilliant. Curtis Davies is by far the best CB in this league and Caldwell seems to be having a bit of a swansong. Spector has settled in at RB and we have Club Captain Stevie Carr back in the squad (who despite his years, is Fantastic). In midfield we have great depth in the middle and Chris Burke has been tearing all comers a new one for a couple of months, with Redmond off the bench our right flank is very very dangerous. Then we have Marlon King (yes yes scumbag... but a great finisher) coming back in to the team. He has bagged 9 goals this season (I know lambert has done better but hasn't he converted about 1,000,000,000 penalties?) and of course the big man, the sometimes unmarkable, unplayable. Nikola Zigic. The most misunderstood player in the league. The guy is a sensation. He finally hit form in about December last year and bagged 4 in 5 league games and of course the goal against arsenal in the league cup final. It took him half a season to get going and then... Injury. I honestly think that had he stayed fit we would still be in the top flight. It seems he is doing the same again, finally getting in to his stride. If Leeds isn't a blip and he has finally found his feet again he really will murder this division. I mean, the guy was only kept out of Valencia's fist team by David Villa... I doubt very much any player in this league could even dream of playing second string to Villa... I mean in 07 when Zigic was fighting for his place against one of Europe's top strikers Billy Sharp was being kept out of a poor Sheffield United side by that well known world beater... Rob Hulse... Oh... And Jon Stead. Ziggy gets unfair stick because he looks so.... Odd. But really. Cracking player. Out of interest how are people feeling about Sharp? I know he scored 1 in 2 for Doncaster but he scored 8 goals in 3 years at Sheffield? How will he fit in? Will he work well with Lambert. I bet he scored on bloody Saturday now
Saint Garrett Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Sheffield United didn't really play to his strengths, they played such awful football it was horrendous to watch (worse than WHU) Think Billy could be a big hit for us alongside Rickie, they're aren't many better strike forces in this league, I think it'll be a draw, 1-1.
surrey1saint Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 I always seem to say we are going to win, maybe I'm biased! 1-2 to Saints COYR!!
Genk Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Would have our back line over their back line any day. Spector is dodgy just like Carr is and he is getting on a bit. After our second half against Cardiff, I think Birmingham are playing us at the wrong time for them...can see Punch & Lallana running riot with Sharpy and Rickie knocking 3 or 4 past them. If this was last week, I would fancy Brum, but we have turned it around now I think. 4-2 to Saints is my prediction. Only real selection dilemma is does Adkins bring Hammond back in? Have a feeling it might be Cork and Deano.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Lallana >>> Carr. See video of St Mary's nutmeg and subsequent foul for proof.
itchen_dan Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Gonna be a bloody good game in my opinion. 2 teams who play attacking football, looking to get promoted and chase West Ham. If West Ham lose at lunchtime, it will make this game even more tasty!! Can't wait to get a glimpse of Sharp and Lambert together. I think they are gonna be a huge hit in this league with goals aplenty between them. We've got a lot of players coming back and we're only getting stronger. Both teams will be good going forward but I think there will be goals due to lack of defensive attention!! 2-2 draw. COYR!!
Nexstar Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Please Nigel, for the love of God, do NOT put Danny Fox on corner duty. His corner -> goal ratio must be appalling, 90% of them are a complete waste of time.
Lets B Avenue Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Please Nigel, for the love of God, do NOT put Danny Fox on corner duty. His corner -> goal ratio must be appalling, 90% of them are a complete waste of time. Compared to the 99% rate we had for the previous 5 seasons.
S-Clarke Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Just looked at the highlights of the Leeds - Birmingham game, to be honest with you.....Leeds could have easily been 3/4-0 in the opening 30mins. They battered them and missed some absolute sitters. Birminghams centre backs were constantly being outpaced by McCormack and even Bechio got in behind...! They took the lead, then gave away a sloppy free kick from where brum equalised - and from there on in their confidence drained. It wasn't as straight forward a result as the score suggests.
AussieDog Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 I think this has the potential to be game of the season in the Championship. Birmingham have finally got over their relegation hangover and, hopefully, we have come through the other side of our (extremely) dodgy spell. I think both teams are by far the best footballing teams in the division and the result is too hard to call. Yep, Brum haven't lost at home in the league - but there again we hadn't lost for 364 days until the stupid Bristol game!
Nexstar Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Compared to the 99% rate we had for the previous 5 seasons. Lallana seems to do a decent job with them when he gets the chance. Won't really be a missing aerial threat in the box either.
shurlock Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Please Nigel, for the love of God, do NOT put Danny Fox on corner duty. His corner -> goal ratio must be appalling, 90% of them are a complete waste of time. His corners go from the sublime to the ridiculous - there's no in between.
disintegration87 Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Strange game at St Marys as we scored 5 goals but only won 4-1 ! I'm sure Zigic will be a threat but I believe Lambert and Sharp with Lee coming off the benceh will be a much bigger threat.
hutch Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 This game will be decided in the last 20 minutes, and (I'm guessing here, but..) I'd rather have our bench than theirs.
James Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 From watching the second half highlights of the Cardiff match it looks like we absolutely battered them and should have won. Depends on how we start the game I think, if we can keep it tight and score first then we have an excellent chance. I'm more worried about letting in a stupid goal though to be honest.
Viking Warrior Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 I have a huge dilema . I have just won a ticket for the Scotland England Rugby match at Murryfield . sfc4prem Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Looking forward to seeing the Saints fans sing that bastardized Celtic song when Tadanari scores his first goal...
Appy Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Stephen Carr is Fantastic? I wonder if he is scared of playing Lallana again?
DJ_TOAST Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 where those watching the game in town going to watch it ? anyone got link to main brum forums ? interested to see what they saying
This Charming Man Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Afternoon chaps! Thirdly, Who said they saw empty seats at Villa? I've not missed a Villa home game since we got promoted in 02 and there has neever to my memory been an attendance of less that around 28k. That was me. Your memory can't be that great; Around 7,000 empty seats... http://www.goal.com/en/match/48944/birmingham-vs-aston-villa/preview
Viking Warrior Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Thanks Phil That way I get to See saints win and still sock up the after match rugby buzz in aand around the grassmarket and toll cross areas of edinbug
hutch Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Thanks Phil That way I get to See saints win and still sock up the after match rugby buzz in aand around the grassmarket and toll cross areas of edinbug If you meet any Celtic supporters while you're there, be sure to tell them you support Saints. I'm sure they'll have a very special welcome for you.

The Cat Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 I have a feeling Billy Sharp will score a goal just like this tomorrow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-uo9mcgqik
Leicestersaint Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Please Nigel, for the love of God, do NOT put Danny Fox on corner duty. His corner -> goal ratio must be appalling, 90% of them are a complete waste of time. Hear, hear! Judging by Tuesday night he should take any until he has become a bit more consistent - and both full backs need to improve their crosses from open play.
Appy Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Please Nigel, for the love of God, do NOT put Danny Fox on corner duty. His corner -> goal ratio must be appalling, 90% of them are a complete waste of time. To be fair all of our corner takers are pretty ****, apart from Lambert who we need in the middle. Fox seems to have got progressively worse since i backed him.
Victor Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 It seems he is doing the same again, finally getting in to his stride. If Leeds isn't a blip and he has finally found his feet again he really will murder this division. I mean, the guy was only kept out of Valencia's fist team by David Villa... CanadaSaint Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Please Nigel, for the love of God, do NOT put Danny Fox on corner duty. His corner -> goal ratio must be appalling, 90% of them are a complete waste of time. It scares the crap out of me when he takes corners on his opposite wing. I really like the idea of the in-swinger, what with all the sneaky keeper-blocking that's allowed to go on these days. However, it he overhits it or doesn't clear the first man, both of which he seems to do regularly, the ball can come back at us down his flank before we can properly react. He really does need to be more consistent or he should be stripped of the role. Having said that, I feel we're a much better side than Brum and I think we'll do 'em tomorrow.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Lallana seems to do a decent job with them when he gets the chance. Won't really be a missing aerial threat in the box either. Disagree completely. Lallana is worse at corners than Fox. Granted, fox's corners on tuesday were terrible, but he wasn't having a great game full stop (much improved in the 2nd half i'll give him that).
farawaysaint Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Halfway decent corner takers in the squad: Lambert... Errr bugger.
CWD Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 ........... and you should know all about playing second string to Villa. Stunning banter.
captainchris Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 I have a feeling Billy Sharp will score a goal just like this tomorrow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-uo9mcgqik What a fabulous goal.....
captainchris Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 To be fair all of our corner takers are pretty ****, apart from Lambert who we need in the middle. Fox seems to have got progressively worse since i backed him. Fox is really not justifying his price tag or place in the team. He doesn't attack overlap and doesn't know how to link up with AL...
pingwing Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 Fox is really not justifying his price tag or place in the team. He doesn't attack overlap and doesn't know how to link up with AL... Was having this conversation on the way back from Cardiff, he doesn't close anyone down when they attack on the right, he doesn't look when he does that cross ball hoof, he doesn't overlap and his corners are 1 dimensional (we can't keep hitting it to the back post and just switching how's trying to nod it in). Basically he's no better than Harding, if we mix them together we would have an alright left back
dannysfc Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 I for one am looking forward to this Game and have put 2-2 on the Prediction League on here as it will probably be like the Cardiff game with both teams going for it andhopefully I'l be wrong and that Saints win and will be Good to see how Sharp/Sharpe does for Saints along with Lambert but we'l see!!! Also am going with my Mate and maybe my Brother by Train as well or will be meeting him and my other brother there and the Trains will be interesting on the way backas well depending on how far the snow gets which I'm sure will cause some disruption but hey ho... ! For Saints I am going to go for Lambert n Sharpe/Sharpe/Puncheon but we'l see!!! See some of you on here up there then! COYR !!!
pressingon Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 His corners go from the sublime to the ridiculous - there's no in between. His corners go from one touchline to the other, be nice if he could drop one in the area once in a while
Under Weststand Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 With Lambert, Lallana & Fonte back add into the mix Puncheon, a much better performance against Cardiff I just feel that we are on the up again, & a belief that Lambert & Sharp could well be something special up front. I'm going for a 2-1 away win here. I hope Zigic won't make it that would make our task so much easier.
Monk Posted 3 February, 2012 Posted 3 February, 2012 We are going to win 2-1. Sharp is going to score as will Rickie.
