student Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 Just been through Southampton's fixtures for the last games. Being realistic I think you'll end up on between 82-86 points which I imagine will see you go up in second but it could be quite tight indeed. What do you see as enough points this year? SNSUN Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 One more than third place.
Dr Who? Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 At this rate not many more, as we have won what 2/3 games since the end of November and is now 1 hour off February!
Colinjb Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 18 games left, we are on 51. 90 points will see us home. 14 wins or so. Tough but just about do-able if we can rediscover our mojo.
Dr Who? Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 Oh and somehow we are still second.... But blinking hell it has closed up a lot
S-Clarke Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 90 points probably, but look at how close it is now - even down to 7th. It's all closing in and this league is anyone's now. Birmingham are reminding me of Sunderland from a few years back. What a good manager Houghton is.

But will their demons come back to haunt them? They are not a rich club anymore, not by any stretch.
S-Clarke Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 But will their demons come back to haunt them? They are not a rich club anymore, not by any stretch. They've managed to keep hold of a load of their quality though, which has surprised me.
ART Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 Don't let us fall into the Redkrapp trap and miss the target. We should now be aiming for maximum points from the remaining games, aiming high and reaching our goal of promotion.
laughba Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 I think 85 would scrape it......
a1ex2001 Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 Mid to high 80's should cover it so 10 wins and some draws, obviously I'd prefer to do it in style but scrapping it out on the last day would be ok too!
Saintjersey Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 It's too early to say, but it seems like a very closely fought season thus far. I still think one team will pull away from the rest of the group within the next ten games.
supersonic Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 A lot. I think the 'wobble' could have ended and now we are starting to see the candidates emerge. Could be a 4 horse race for the top 2. Us, WH, Cardiff and Birmingham. The latter would be my pick to go up and I think we'll get the play-offs. We aren't strong enough away from home. Simple enough. Hatch Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 I picked a free sports betting magazine yesterday, and they had predicted how many points we would finish on. based on current form and form of the teams we still have to play. It all looked very complicated. anyway, they had West Ham top with 84, Saints 2nd with 80 and Birmingham / Cardiff both on 76. So thats the scientific answer. Pamplemousse Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 If you look it at statistically, West Ham have the toughest run in of all the teams in the Championship, the average amount of points of the teams they still have to play is 40 points, whereas ours is about 38 points. Ashby Saint Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 One more than third place. Could be the same as third place with better scoring record!
S-Clarke Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 (edited) After looking at the results, seasons gone by etc - I reckon 2nd could be achieved by as little as 80 points this year. 90pts should win you the league. Crap....was just going to use the BBC predictor thingy, but they've removed it from their new site. Edited 1 February, 2012 by S-Clarke

S-Clarke Posted 1 February, 2012 Share Posted 1 February, 2012 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/predictor/default.stm - For what it's worth, I've managed to dig out the link to the predictor. It's no longer live on the new BBC site, so bookmark it! Not sure how long this will stay live either..
