Littlelat17 Posted 30 January, 2012 Share Posted 30 January, 2012 Thinking realisitically i.e having cover on bench, I just started to jot down mine and i gave up.. i started with same back 5 and front two but then had Chappers, Cork Schneiderlin Lallana in mid and for bench Guly, Connolly, Martin, Bart couldnt decide on Punch, Hammond, De ridder, Lee for final spot on bench
St Marco Posted 30 January, 2012 Share Posted 30 January, 2012 No Chaplow, Schneiderlin or De Ridder? To be honest with you I don't think De Ridder is all that. Chaplow has been out a long time and did very well before getting injured. Him and Morgan are the two players I would put in if we could take 7 subs like before. If Guly continues to fade then I would put in Chaplow. Morgan is someone I would love to see in the team as he has great potential. But right now I think we need our most experienced squad out there. Martin could be swapped for either of Morgan or Chaplow but I just think Harding wouldn't do so well at CB. I guess if it hits the fan Fox can go CB and Cork can play in defence too. Either way these are problems I am glad we have
S-Clarke Posted 30 January, 2012 Share Posted 30 January, 2012 I think we've got such a strong squad now, which include players who are as good as the players in the first 11 - So it will change around quite a bit. We've got a bit of everything. Pace and trickery down the flanks, solidity in the middle, quality at full back....and 5 terrific forwards. We're in a great place and I'm delighted that we've taken this window seriously and have made a massive effort to make the most of our position. I'd hate to be Nigel in picking an 11. Anyone out of the 16 could start as they're all good enough. What a terrific headache.

Brussels Saint Posted 30 January, 2012 Share Posted 30 January, 2012 Davis Richardson Fonte Jos Fox Chaplow Cork Morgan Lallana Lambert Sharp Bart Martin Guly Lee Punch Not easy this as pointed out. I left out Hammond, just because with Chaplow on the right, you have centre mid cover in a matchday squad. You could make a case for Harding over Martin in the 16. I have to admit the signing I dont get is Falque. Surely he is behind Lallana, Punch, Chaplow, Guly & maybe even De Ridder for a starting spot in our wide mid areas. What will he gain training with us instead of Spurs?

St Marco Posted 30 January, 2012 Share Posted 30 January, 2012 Or Puncheon in it, he hasn't done anything yet. Reason I chose Puncheon is simply because he is our best winger. People forget that he was picked in the team of the year twice, once with us. When his head is right and he wants to play he is one tricky bastard. In his last year here when he played he had 9 assists in 19 games. That is a pretty amazing feat. Adamn Lallana only had 3 assists the entire season. What he did was stupid but if he is okay now and things are forgotten behind the scenes then I would rather have him out on the right then Guly or De Ridder. Especially when you consider then have produced only 9 assists in over 50 games between them. It is no secret our left wing is the creative side right now. Plus in the last game Puncheon actually got past his man most times, even nut megging him. Where as De Ridder struggled.

I think its a bit previous to assume Lee is going to work out yet, and the jury is out on SDR for me. Hammond will never get ahead of Chaplow or Cork. Morgan is a different type of player and for that reason, Hammond misses out. In terms of cover, Cork can play cb or r/back if needed as can fox. Whilst the 5 sub rule applies, thats my team. beatlesaint Posted 30 January, 2012 Share Posted 30 January, 2012 Personally I think if peace had broken out between NC and Puncheon a week earlier we wouldn't have bothered with Falque. I also believe the signing of Sharp means that Lee will be given the rest of this season, barring any injuries to Rickie and Billy (that sounds good), to get aclimatised etc. If you think about it Adkins has given De Ridder about 5 months to get used to the English game and he only came from Belgium !! So I would expect to see Lee as an irregular sub depending on who else he wants on the bench. As has been said this 5 sub rule has done us no favours really. Monk Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 Surprised I have not seen this on the forum yet. Under Weststand Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 When everyone is fit we have one hell of a squad. Going to be difficult for NA to keep them all happy. Especially with the stupid 5-sub rule. But here goes for my try. - - - - - - - - Davis Richardson - Fonte - Hooiveld - Fox Chaplow - Cork - Schneiderlin - Lallana - - - - Sharp - - -Lambert Bench:- Bart - Guly - Martin - Hammond - De-Ridder This is the difficult bit for me, plenty of players you could make a case for Puncheon instead of De-Ridder I just think he offers that bit extra coming on as an impact player, likewise Connolly for Guly could well be an option. Could well place Lee in there but not enough known about him yet to give an informed decision.
CWD Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 This is tough, but I have to go with: -----------------Davis------------- Richardson - Fonte - Hooiveld - Fox Chaplow - Hammond - Cork - Lallana ---------Lambert - Sharp ---------- Subs: Bart Harding Schneiderlin Puncheon Guly It means leaving out Martin, SDR, Lee, Falque etc, but I just couldn't justify their places - yet. Cascadia Saint Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 (edited) Best 16? Well, I wish we could have more than 5 subs now we have added to the squad but I will try and squeeze em in. Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox Chaplow Cork Hammond Lallana Sharp Lambert Subs: Bialkowski, Martin, Schneiderlin, Guly, Lee As everybody else has stated, it's incredible that this 16 leaves out: Barnard, Connolly, De Ridder, Puncheon, Holmes, Falque, Jaidi, Butterfield and Harding. Add in Shaw, Ward-Prowse, Stephens and Hoskins waiting in the wings, and remember that Seabourne is still long term injured, and I think you might have to change your pants. Or at the very least admit that you wouldn't swap squads with anyone else in this division (and some in the prem) Sometimes it takes seeing every name written in black and white to appreciate what we have, yikes. I'm off for a beer. Edited 31 January, 2012 by Cascadia Saint Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan!

If only we didn't have this stupid 5 sub rule it'd be a lot easier to keep this squad happy...although I can see us letting a few players go tomorrow - Holmes and Barnard probably. Jose Mourinho maintains (and I agree) with a 23-man squad. 3 GKs (Davis, Bialkowski, Forecast) 2 RBs (Richardson, Butterfield) 2 LBs (Fox, Harding) 4 CBs (Fonte, Hooiveld, Martin, Jaidi) 4 CMs (Cork, Morgan, Hammond, Chaplow) 2 RMs (De Ridder, Puncheon) 2 LMs (Lallana, Holmes) 4 STs (Lambert, Sharp, Lee, Guly) Looking very strong there, and with players like Connolly and Barnard on the fringes - who would be regular first-teamers for virtually any other Championship team. I like the look of your squad. I dont see weakness anywhere, except possibly RM where I hope Puncheon's new-found resolve is maintained, and SDR hasnt convinced me. I would also find a place for Connolly if he could prove he can make a contribution when things are going tits-up. Barnard probably needs to move on and have a fresh start, sadly. The only player I would definitely change is Forecast.
Professor Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 The team looks better than it did at New Year with Puncheon a better winger than SDR, and Sharp a better second striker than Connolly, as well as having Lee to call on, but lets not forget that the rest of this team have been producing some poor results for the last 2 months. Will Chaplow instead of Hammond, Cork or Morgan, make that much difference in midfield? Will Jos and Jose back at CB be a big improvement on Martin holding one of the spots? Yes. I think it will. The confidence from a strong threat up front will improve the whole team. I'd like to see Puncheon and Lee in tonight to start the process against Cardiff but if Lee does well, how do we fit Sharp in on Saturday? Who'd be a manager...... hutch Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 I think we've got a first team squad now of about 22. Say average 5 out through injury/fitness/suspension at any one time, I don't think we'll have too many selection problems.

ozzmeister Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 Bit more strength/depth in wing positions (yes two natural first choice), but not quality option if injured, especially on the left side. Would also like a strong development goalkeeper to push part as long term replacement for Davis (Bart has no competition in training which can't do him good), maybe his poor performance recently was more a case of complacency than anything else

Lighthouse Posted 31 January, 2012 Share Posted 31 January, 2012 Starting 11: Davis, Richardson, Hooiveld, Fonte, Fox, Chaplow, Cork, Hammond, Lallana, Lambert, Sharp Subs: Bart, Martin, Morgan... Now the last 2 are complicated. For me it's a winger from De Ridder, Puncheon and Falque and a striker from Lee, Guly and Barnard. As things stand I'd have De Ridder and Guly but it's very hard to pick a definitive favourite from that lot. Holmes and Connolly are surplus to requirements IMO. We have far better options in the squad now.
