Sharp Signs on OS

Good signing, welcome aboard the waterbus.

My only thought is, we now have 5 strikers who can play alongside RL, but its still difficult to see a combination that would work well when RL is not available. I guess it would have to be Guly & perm 1 from 3 of Sharp/Connolly/Lee/Barnard.

Still desparately seeking a CB, then things will look sweet.

Great signing but more importantly I think the timing of it is exactly what was needed. A player to give some confidence to the other players when we were in a bit of a dip. Can't wait for tomorrow now!

I bet the mong patrol will be really ****ed off about that one! The whole Cortese can't sign players thing is dead again for another window. What will they complain about now?

Based on absolutely nothing at all... I think DC and Sharp might work well, if their supply is good.

And yes, just a CB left now!

Tbh i'm guessing Sharp/Lambo up front and Guly out on the right (cover for Puncheon) and then Connolly to come on as sub. Barnard has been missing most this season, think a loan is what he needs to earn his way back into the team.

That leaves Lee and De Ridder out the squad completely. Surely not?

De Ridder has had about 30 games in total (granted most were as a sub) and I just don't think he has done much. Lee I think would be a good player to slot in behind the forwards, so could maybe switch to a 3-5-2 at times or just a diamond 4-4-2. But he will have to earn his spot as right now he is unproven. Lambo and Sharp will get you goals. Connolly is experienced but sadly very injury prone so will mean Lee will get more chances anyway. We do have a big squad on paper, we could do with losing a few on loan.

Ian Dennis just said on Five Live that Matthew Upson is still on the cards, or something to that effect...

Would really finish off this window as a statement of intent if true! What were the reasons given earlier saying why we had failed with a move for him?

Well, if they didn't go and do it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Billy Sharp, they went and signed him, as he was target number one. I was at an HA meeting last week with some collegues, West Ham and Reading fans, who were telling me that we were finished as a force and have stumbled, and to get out of the way and let the big boys play.

I was having a power snap when my reading supporting collegue sent me a text saying : '****'.

My West Ham collegues saying: 'Sheet'.

They believe this is a 'cooo' (there spelling) and we have set out our stall and we're looking serious to challenge even more now.

May I also give a 'woot'

Chuffed, welcome Billy.

But Alpine makes a valid point about integrating them all. Never expected we'd have 4 or 5 new players into the squad this window.

Puncheon is back to play, but Chaplow was brilliant before injury. Lee is here to play, but Guly and Lambert have been brilliant, and now we have Billy Sharp. Many fans thought Connolly was great, but he surely now won't make the bench. And Falque was brought in for experience, yet he may now not play, while SDR always seems to do alright and can't be out the team forever.

So basically we have 4 proper wingers now, Chaplow who can play there too, 4 central midfielders and 6 strikers.

Over to you Nigel.

Being honest, the squad we have now amassed does somewhat point to the fastly approaching end for players like dickson, holmes, forte, barnard and sorry to say it, connolly.

That leaves us with the following:

Davis

Bart

Richardson

Butterfield

Fox

Harding

Fonte

Jos

Jaidi

Martin

Lallana

Punch

De Ridder

Falque

Morgan

Chaplow

Cork

Hammond

Lambert

Sharp

Lee

Guly

Big, big signing.

Provided Lambert doesnt disappear somewhere tomorrow, I'm delighted.

24 hrs to do something about the defence still.

Just hope NA can get these players all integrated and the team running like a well-oiled machine.

Come on Alps, please tell me your not serious? Please, this is good news, and I appreciate you keeping our feet on the floor about integration, but selling Rickie?

You have to llok with better eyes than that, sometimes

I would also like to welcome Billy Sharp to Saints and straight onto the Saints Promotion Bus as well as that is a Great signing made by Adkins and also bringing in

Matt Upson if true then I can see us hopefully get Promoted now but we'l see!!!

Also is a Great strike partner for Rickie as well with Barnard n Guly as back up!

I can't see him starting v Cardiff tomorrow But would be sure that he should start v Birmingham on Saturday but we'l see!!!

My cousin is a scouser and the rumour going around up there was that we were going to buy Billy Sharp and Liverpool have bid £9m for Lambert.

Sorry, I am a Saints fan. Habits of a lifetime are difficult to shake. I am used to there being a cloud to go with the silver lining...

But look at Stoke's squad, especially up front. Jones, Fuller, Walters, Crouch, Jerome, Pennant, Sidibe.

A very good signing! 1 Million pounds cheaper than at the start of the season too so good business for us as well. I hope it works out for him down here and settles in to the area. He is guaranteed 100% support from the fans so thats already in his favour. I hope he goes on to become a Southampton legend :)

Yes, but remember. High above the darkest cloud there's sunshine and blue sky everywhere. :)

40.2 Subject to Regulations 40.4 and 40.5, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (other than those referred to in Regulation 40.3) are received (including by facsimile) and found to be in order by the Executive by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match.

So he will NOT be available tomorrow. If it was a loan he could have!

Really chuffed with that & it erases my doubts over funds not necessarily being forthcoming.

Good goal getter at this level & we need a man who's there for the chances cos we create so many but don't always have a man who's always in the right place at the right time. I think he'll be superb alongside Ricky, in a Quinn type Philips partnership manner. We create enough chances. Sharp should bag up!!

Good luck Billy & welcome to our humble club. We hope you like it down South.

Tell me is this the same sharp who:-

Took the French Imperial Eagle, at Talavera ?

Killed three French draggons in the saddle and saved Wellingtons life ?

Successfully assaulting the central breach at Badajoz ?

Took command of a regiment driving off the advance of the French Imperial Guard at the Battle of Waterloo?

As he's originally from Sheffield, I think it must be.

No problem, I'm glad that you are of good cheer.
