Our new team with Billy Sharp starting?:

Giordano

Recommended Posts

Personally I like:

----------------Davis----------------------

Richardson-----Fonte----Hooiveld---------Fox

Puncheon----Morgan-----Cork--------Lallana

-------------Sharp------------Lambert-----------

There will be some quality players who don't make the bench with 5 subs allowed

Bart, Martin, Harding, Hammond, SdR, Guly, Lee, Connolly - thats 8 already not in the first XI

If he's having a medical, it's all but done. He hasn't been injured at all this season I think so shouldn't be any problems.

He took a very nasty tackle actually and was stretched off back in September IIRC, was out for around 6 weeks - they feared longer at the time, so he's obviously a quick healer.

Don't see any issues with this tbh. Just waiting for the announcement, even though Donny have kind of already announced it.

That works forom my perspective - strong team ..... strength to come from the bench .....

Fraser-----Fonte----Hooiveld-----Fox

Punch---Morgan--Chaplow-----Lallana

-----------Sharp-----Lambert

Bart, cork, lee, de ridder, Guly

Morgan & Chaplow in the middle....gulp....paper thin defensively ....better to let Chaplow run around out wide where we dont need the discipline of holding our shape as much. Morgan needs a grafter along side him i.e Cork. Chaplow on the right.

Morgan Schneiderlin is very defensive, he often sits just in front of the centre backs to break up opponents attacks. I'm still surprised at how many people don't see what Schneiderlin's role often is and how good he is at tackling, he isn't just a good long/short passer of the ball.

i think nigel will be looking to 'tinker' with the side alot now that weve signed a few extra players. before january weve basically had our stongest 12-13 players then with the occasional injury or suspension usually had a relativley weak bench, i think from now on depending on opponent we will rarely see the same 11 week in week out, which obviously will make it harder for teams to prepare how to play against us.

Sorry but I think Martin been the better player this season! Fonte ain't been all that good.

He is still better than Martin (by some distance) and I'm sure Adkins agrees. That isn't to say Martin has done well when called upon, but Fonte and Hooiveld remain first choice when fit.

Morgan sits deep, tackles and builds play with his fluent passing. Chaplow is the all action box to box type we have so been missing lately.

Do agree that Martin has improved game by game but Fonte has struggled not having a settled partner this term.

You can see that once a partneship with Jos started to develop, the Fonte of old was coming back.

But options is definately good news!

Everyone is printing the " ideal side " but it 'aint like that folks. Although we (had been) top for several months, we've hardly evercome near our "best paper 11".

Even without Jaidi at the back..we started with Fonte and Martin, and Seabornes season lasted only 6 games. Thank Goodness we bought Jos..but now he's out.

We're lucky that Martin has shown up well, but I'm concerned about Fonte's absence - as he's been out for 6 games already and no mention of a return yet.

The midfield has always been " perm any 4 from 6" and thats OK, but we never really clicked well until we had Chaplow on form, but then his injury *ucked it up again,

and as has been seen, everything goes pear-shaped with Lallana in the middle.

It's now a case of Puncheon, (who showed up well but admitted he was short of match practice)....and the long-awaited return of Chaplow to bolster the midfield.

At the top it's been Lambert + whoever's fit or whoever's on form or whoever's on the bench this week. That problem should solve itself with Lee and Sharp available, but we really have to look at "what is the team for the next game....and not fantisize about " the perfect line-up ".....it ain't gonna happen.

Sorry but what's your point here? That we may not be able to pick our best 11 every week due to injuries?

We now have a real quality team, with depth everywhere. Maybe CB has a slight question mark over it, but that can be fixed in the loan window if Jos is out longer term.

Believe Cork can also cover as CB if required - great to have options!

One thing we should've learnt under Adkins is that there is no 'best XI'... he does tweak things and plays who he feels is best suited to the game/formation/opposition/tactics.

That said, I would suggest Sharp and Lambert will fit most scenarios and it's in midfield that we tend to change more.

We can't be far off putting out 2 teams of NPC stadard

First team: Davis - Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox - Puncheon Cork Hammond Lallana - Lambert Sharp

Second team: Bart - Butters Martin Jaidi Harding - De Ridder Chaplow Morgan Falque - Guly Lee

Not a brilliant defence in the second team, but if Jaidi and Butters were fit it wouldn't be half bad. This is without Barnard, Seaborne, DC, Holmes or any of the younger players.

I don't get the Lee Sharp joke

Possibly because it's not funny, but in the interests of education, I believe the reference is to ex-Man U and Leeds striker Lee Sharpe, and the fact that we could have (Tadanari) Lee (Billy) Sharp playing for us...

Ho, ho, and indeed: Ho.

Except you would have chaplow ahead of hammond and morgan would also be first team.

also wouldnt mind another rightback in place of butterfield. Clyne would be lovely.

I believe we are looking at 2 defenders called Steve Harrold and Brian Shipman.

Make of this what you will.
