Billy Sharp having medical???

Lets hope there's no more hiccups then, good news if true. Sounds like Hopper is a no go this window, which was always unlikely.

Just what we need to play alongside Lambert.

I think both would be equally as good for us. Not sure Hooper is worth the 8m+ fee Celtic have put on his head. I'd have been as happy with either!

At just under £2m Sharp is much more affordable and much better value. He could be prolific alongside Lambert. Exciting times - could be done in time for the game too.

Isn't a medical done after the financial terms are agreed etc? Might be wrong.

Almost always, yes.

They'd try to sign a contract "subject to medical" in most cases - but given the rush, that may not ahve happened today.

However, I'd be surprsied if the medical is taking place if there isn't already some sort of agreement on contractual terms.

Deal was clinched when Cortese said Billy could go round IKEA, choose what furniture he'd like for his new pad and he'd pick up the tab. True. LordswoodSaints son served him when he was there.

I said something similar on another thread. If you put Sharp in the SPL, he'd score just as many than Hooper IMO.

Nigel is very well placed to know how good they both are.

Don't disagree with any of that SC, but it seemed unlikely that we'd be able to do the deal in this window for Hooper, may be we will go back in the summer to re-visit the deal. But maybe no need if Sharp comes off how we all hope for. Could well be our front 2 for the next 3/4 years. If it all goes OK here's hoping fingers well and truly crossed.

If he is sub £2m and we do indeed sign him, it does on paper represent some excellent business, especially considering the sums we were prepared to pay for Hooper (and maybe Rhodes) - that would be some deal and significant credit to NC and NA if we do get our man without paying over the odds. We can go back for one or both of the others in the summer!

If we get promoted I'd expect us to go back in for Jay Rod and Hooper.

Ferk me, how many forwards do you want at the club, even Sharp is one to many imo.....Guly, Barnard, Lee, Connelly, De Ridder, plus the youngsters!

I doubt Barnard and Conners will be with us in the prem. De Ridder is a winger too, don't like him up front.

Lambert, Sharp, Lee, Guly.

I tell you what, show me a team in this league that has 4 better strikers in their squad... aside from maybe West Ham.

I'd say Barnard is better than Guly when fit, so add him to the list. If his short term loan come to fruition, he could be a brilliant asset if he comes back fully fit.

Sharpe would be ahead of all of them, how many goals have Barnard, Lee, Connelly, De Ridder, plus the youngsters scored recently.

Ultimately, lifelong Blades fan[citation needed] Sharp rejoined Sheffield United on 4 July 2007 for a fee of around £2 million, a deal that also saw Sheffield United's Jonathan Forte transferred to S****horpe. Sharp was allocated the number 24 shirt.[11]

From wikipedia.... Forte must be sick to the back teeth of Billy Sharp!

Are west ham strikers better then....not for me

Carew, Cole, Piquionne and Baldock have all been capped for their country at some level - only Lee has for us. The quality is more prominent in the WHU team but they're massively underperforming given Cole was in the England squad about a year ago.

I rate Barnard, but can't see him staying with us much longer if we do sign Sharp. We'll let him and Connolly go if we get promotion I reckon, Barney will be a great bargaining chip as you say for any Championship-based transfers next season.

I wouldn't swap strike forces, no chance. They've got names and big wages, but none seem consistent. No-one near Lamberts ability and effectiveness. A few erratic but dangerous like Guly, and a few young and unproven. Baldock would have been a good signing, but one of those I'm sure would have done better here than a club like that. Carew, Piquionne? No thanks. Mark Noble will finish top scorer with 47 penalties anyway.

Agreed. Players like Sears, Piquonne (sp), Carew etc are poor IMO and aren't' really up to much - as we've seen so far this season.

Their best striker and most dangerous player is probably Baldock, really like him. Cole has been a let down at this level, thought he'd be prolific.

Why ahead of Guly? A player used to Lambert and having proven a great partnership with him and scored a lot of goals already?

I can see a 4 of Lambert, Guly, Lee, Sharp being top quality options. But it does seem really harsh on Connolly and Barnard, who wouldn't make the bench again barring injuries.

Although one has to consider the positives in shutting Darlek up.

That's why I didn't mention Guly in my reply!

Would love a 4 of Lambert, Guly, Lee, Sharp

I wish I could find a job like Carlton Cole. For 5 years or so, 90% of the time he is reported to be 'underperforming'. Then he has a short burst of goalscoring that doesn't last long, and this 10% is reported to be his true ability. How does that work? QUOTE]

Just ask Emile Heskey.
