There is no way adkins would keep persisting unless hooper has given him encouragement. Hooper maybe reluctant to hand in transfer request due to financial reasons so is relying on celtic to accept offer with out him forcing the move. It could be that hooper knows what celtic will take to sell and saints are doing there usual hard ball tactics. it does seem odd how we won't go away so maybe something will happen. Who knows but monday is likely to be the day as I can't see us taking focus away from cardiff game on tuesday which is a huge game

The thing that I don`t understand with this supposed "Conspiricy Theory" that Saints are just making big bids to appease the fans is that the club does it`s business privately, never confirming or denying anything. Any information seems to come from the "selling" club. Why don`t Saints give out the info if they are trying to appease? Or is this part of the master plan - get the other club to spill the beans?:?

It would be a bit odd if, having spent the last two and a half years not saying a word about transfer deals until the player is photographed holding a shirt with his name on the back of it, all of a sudden they started saying "yeah, by the way, we've made a bid of £Xm for so-and-so, we'll keep you posted on developments". Nothing draws suspicion and conspiracy theories more than a surprise about-turn in policy.

Check your PM, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you rearrange some of the letters there is also a clue about a potential new signing.

Hes a moderator too..... Explains the recents bans ect! Good news on signing.....hope that comes off!

A good point but, as you mention, running up blind alleys isn't of much use. However, on this occasion I am not so sure the funds are as readily available as the club make out. Anyone can bid without commitment.

I think that's the Joseph Cala approach, not the Cortese / Adkins one.

What makes you think we would bid without commitment?

I was out last night with a couple of agents (Bournemouth about to sign a pretty prolific striker) and the general view is Southampton don't have any money to spend. Wealthy owners yes, but limited funds available.

Can't hurt to have people think we haven't got money.

Yep. Exactly what an ex player told me in hospitality last week. No danger of going bust, but limited funds to spend.

You really are a bore Hypo, 'Oh look at me, I spoke to an ex player'. I doubt NC discusses club finances with them, any more than he would with us.

Cortese said the other night that we had agreed fees for a number of players but he would not break our salary cap for anyone.

Good. We haven't been linked with anyone who immediately deserves to be our top earner, and besides, salary caps exist to stop overspending and ending up like Pompey. I hope no-one whining about it and taking the 'spend whatever it takes' attitude has ever contributed to the pompey takeover saga or it might be a tad hypocritical.

Agree. And even better than that it doesn't seem to be harming us because other championship teams arent making big money / wages signings either. Wonder if their has been some kind of chairmen's agreement.

And IMO he's absolutely correct but that doesn't prevent us from signing players to contracts containing a clause allowing for a significant increase should we be promoted.

In fact, I suspect that some of our players already have this - Lallana, Fonté and Lambert for example. That's exactly how a Hooper signing would work - a boost now with the prospect of a much larger boost later.

If there is, then West Ham aren't involved, their board and manager have been guaranteeing big money signings all January and all they've managed is an unproven MLS defender on a 2 month loan. Seems more like clubs just don't want to sell their stars in January when they still have something to play for.

More likely the introduction of the Financial Fair Play regulations next season.

What do you expect when the Saints are proposing a straight swop Hooper for Anthony Pullis. This ain't no Tevez for Carroll deal :(

I doubt Saints would offer a player that isn't theirs for Hooper. Now that would be daft!

May be connected ......Breaking news for Celtic fans. Polish striker Pawel Brozek is on his way to Glasgow for a medical. The 28-year-old has agreed a loan move from Turkish club Trabzonspor, having been the subject of interest from Rangers.

Oh please, what shyte. If they didnt have that sort of money they would spend thier time looking at players who they could afford and thought that would improve the side.

This isnt football manager 12, its a multi million pound business and run by intelligent professional people. Do you really think they turn up in the morining and say " what shall we do today, i know lets fax a £50mill bid in for rooney."

The bids are the final stages of a year of scouts looking a a multitude of players, talking to agents about values / wages etc.

Alright choppy b*llocks! Our Japanese scout did very well. However, are you saying the other scouting assignments have gone well? If someone's been scouting Hooper a year & our back up (allegedly Sharp) does not happen, I'd suggest they're not doing their job very well. We wasted a window chasing Rodriguez & seems this time Hooper. Maybe we need to go for more assured targets. Pardew seemed a lot more successful in transfer activity.

I think this is connected. Celtic have been shopping around for a striker ever since the talk about Hooper started. They will have wanted to get his replacement in before letting him go. This may be his replacement. If so, the Hooper transfer might be on. Or maybe I'm just being optimistic!

What?!!!! Didn't you know he's back? It's part of the deal on Collins :)

"We're delighted with the squad we've got; very, very strong. If this is the squad we've got Tuesday night, we'll be delighted with that."

Alan Thompsons ( celtic coach) comments after celtic game...sounds like there could be room for movement lol

That would make him his own worst enemy.
Would make sense. Rubbishing his own actions to get a favourable, defensive response from the rest of the forum. If this were twitter I would end with #conspiracytheory.

Were you at the meal?

No but one of those there reported that. (Sotonianproud - post 75 )

Also I think the chairman of a football club has much better things to do than post on an Internet forum, that represents a very tiny number of the fan base.
