Matthew Le God Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 (edited) I don't understand why people want tricky home or away games. I want Saints to draw the poorest team possible at St Mary's. As Championship sides, Millwall and Cardiff have both made the cup final in recent years, no reason why Saints couldn't do the same. Aren't two trips to Wembley for the semis and final better than a trip to see Saints get beaten at the Emirates, White Hart Lane, Anfield etc? Edited 29 January, 2012 by Matthew Le God

Graffito Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Should Saints draw Liverpool it would be interesting to see whether Adkins plays his strongest side in the replay against Millwall.

Fair point but my nipper drools at the thought of Anfield and is "meh" at the thought of Crawley at SMS and, TBF, I feel the same.

S-Clarke Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Home.....against Bolton. Tasty and very winnable.

yamms_schmitz Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Could have been much worse. We can beat Bolton at St Marys Come on Saints
ericb Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 One thing about that draw (if we beat Millwall) is that it'll be a really good test of if we're actually ready for the premiership or not. Since teams like Bolton will be those we'll be expecting to beat if we do go up.
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 We've got to beat Millwall first. Let's hope so because I shall be away for the scheduled game with Derby.
Colinjb Posted 29 January, 2012 Author Posted 29 January, 2012 I thought it was a little odd that we hadn't drawn them for a while. First things first though.
Saint_lambden Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 3 wins from Wembley (including the replay).
hasper57saint Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 For the life of me I can't see anything wrong with being at home to Bolton. This is WINNABLE and gives us a chance to see what the Prem has to offer.
suewhistle Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 I thought it was a little odd that we hadn't drawn them for a while. First things first though. I remember seeing Bobby Stokes score 2 against them away in an FA cup replay back when I was a student at UoS. Had to pretend to be miserable when I left the ground and then made a sprint for the coaches. The joys of not having any lectures on a Wednesday!
bender Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 If our form improves over the next few weeks we should win this. Given league positions we are an equal to Bolton.. Lets get the replay out the way first.
Lighthouse Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Out of sorts Premier League opposition, that's 2 very winnable home ties. Pleased with that. At least it wasn't some sh*t Northern away day like Bolton or Stoke.
ericofarabia Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Should we buy Kevin Davies just to stop him from scoring against us? Could be a bit like Blackpool last year, a team desperate for Prem points in the battle for survival - will they play their reserves or not? Mind you Cardiff, Brighton and Leicester have all managed quite well against us with depleted sides!! Couldn't ask for more to be honest - winnable home game - good incentive to beat Millwall without being a distraction if we'd say got Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal would have been.

That funny I remember that game too 2pm kick off because of three day week. I was a student at Sheffied. Where were you at Suewhistle?

rshephard3 Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Plenty saying winnable but not with 2nd string which, if maintaining our league position, will be used. Bolton will see the cup as a welcome distraction from a pretty c**p mixed bag of a season whilst we have a great season going which is already looking a tiny bit wobbly of late.. Does anyone else not think we'd see the likes of Reeves/Barnard/Bart/Martin in a game V's Bolton if we get past Millwall? Or do people think we'd start taking it more seriously if a 6th rnd tie was up for grabs?
The Cat Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Not a bad draw. I did want Crawley or Stevenage away (new grounds) but happy with a lower Premiership team at home.
Tamesaint Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Fantastic draw. We avoided the big guns - for the time being. We avoided the banana skins. A bad result against Stevenage or Crawley with the publicity that would come with it would seriously upset our morale. We are at home. We can win it which would mean that we would be 90 minute away from Wembley. No disgrace in losing to a Prem club - if we lose. We have to beat Millwall first and I wouldn't fancy a replay at the Reebok but I feel that we could do something in the Cup this year!!
Chez Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 happy with that. I want to bloody win this thing and avoiding the likes of Spurs and Liverpool etc. is a start. Bolton are improving all the time sadly, but we'll give them a good game. Hopefully we'll beat Millwall and starting finding our own form

Or do people think we'd start taking it more seriously if a 6th rnd tie was up for grabs? with players coming back from injuries we have a choice or Lambert, Lee, Connelly, Guly and Barard up front and de Ridder, Puncheon Guly on the RHS, Cork, Hammond, Morgan and Reeves in the middle, Holmes, Lallana and Chaplow on the left. Only the back four is a little stretched right now, but with all due respect playing at CB doesn't tire you like playing in midfield, so Fonte, Martin and Jaidi perhaps means there isn't a huge problem. We just need to get our A game back.
hasper57saint Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 By the time we play Bolton, Nigel will be 'spoilt for choice' over team selection. We should field our strongest eleven and put them to the test.
ART Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Spooky. The Kevin Davies factor. It was Kevin who scored the goal against Millwall that got us into the F.A. Cup Final against Arsenal. Now, after a thread about his return, he might indeed return and playing for Bolton. That is, if we knock out Millwall first.
Badger Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 In my view, I don't think we'll beat Millwall in the replay - just a hunch. I suspect the replay will see more 'run outs' given as Bolton is not attractive enough to risk key players, and nor would I wish us to. But, should we get through the replay then I feel we could beat Bolton.
70's Mike Posted 29 January, 2012 Posted 29 January, 2012 Barry Horne wonder strike against Bolton what a night
