lordswoodsaints Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 As it's been a year since he kicked a ball for us,I would like to know how he got on today from people who were there. Sounded like he did ok on the radio but Solent reported he was hobbling up the tunnel at the end. Is he up to the task ahead? Will he maintain his place? Bourno Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 He was good, lots of chasing back, intelligent runs and passes going forward. He had that extra bit of quality to get round players.

Dalek2003 Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 Our best player today. Fair play to him. I am pleased about this. Who knows he could still be a big part of the season in a positive light. Now, I hope people really do forgive and let Jason have a fresh start, everyone deserves a new chance. saints-cris Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 He was very good today, happy for him. Definately has that bit more about him. Keeps the ball so well, sticks to his feet. He seemed up for it. Main thing I noticed before the KO, he went up to every player for a hug and a high five, all seemed very genuine. Was good to see. I'd say the players are all well behind him. jimbojones10 Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 I thought he was good he has a little bit of extra class that only few players in our squad have. I think he will push for a regular starting place when fully match fit

Really pleased to read this. I hope JP can be a great contributor for Saints for the rest of the season and beyond. There's also a good feeling about the "redemption" factor of his comeback - my respect for NC goes up too; no matter what his motivation was he has shown a willingness to move on and build a bridge for the club's benefit. Tony F Posted 29 January, 2012 Share Posted 29 January, 2012 I am happy to add my name to those above - give credit where it's due, respect someone who has had to accept their mistakes and eat humble pie. I suspect all of us have been in this situation once in our lives - but without the publicity Punch has had to live under. From what I can see, Saints fans are united in our willingness to draw a (famous) Adkins blue line under events of the past and move on. Pats on the backs all round, I say. Now......over to you, Punch......show what skills and tricks you have learned from your spells on loan and make a contribution to our promotion push. That is the one, and only, priority now. hamster Posted 29 January, 2012 Share Posted 29 January, 2012 Don't like to say I told you so but, I told you so. The bigger climb down IMHO is from Nigel Adkins. His previous comments were in effect official club statements. JP was displaying childlike ego tendencies and IMHO Nigel should have taken the higher moral stance NOT publicly exiled the player. Water under the bridge now. Move on.
John Smith Posted 29 January, 2012 Share Posted 29 January, 2012 When Jason came to Saints, he was an instant hit. Some of his goals were awesome, cutting in and bending it into the far corner. Then, the beginning of last season, he had a shocker. He just couldn't find his form and people got on his back. Behind the scenes, his lack of form obviously effected his relationship with the manager and for some reason they fell out. I supported Jason in those days when he was having a shocker, and I applauded and shouted my appreciation when he did something good, simple but effective. Then, he has one of those tantrums that he said he's grown out of and thinks playing for Blackpool in the Prrem will get him his Golden ticket move as everyone can now see he is as good as he says he is and stick two fingers up on his way out. Trouble was, all he could muster was a loan move on the last day of the transfer window to a club that barely played him. Then, when he's returned with no contract offer, no offers to buy at a price worthy of a premiership star winger and goal scorer, he digs in at the Chairman. Again, showing that childish quality he said he'd left behind, just weeks before on soccer am as he tried to tout himself on live tv. He even had a go back at fans that abused him for his tweets. Now, here we are, justa couple of weeks on, Jason, tail between his legs, back in the first team and appreciating the support. Well, Jason, LAST CHANCE! I am not wasting my breath on you if at the end of the season you're going to cause a stink, throw your toys out the pram and demand a move for next to no profit and to a premiership club. IF you're good enough, prove it! If you are that good, you will be at a premiership club next season - SOUTHAMPTON FC! If you play rubbish, expect to get dropped, if you play badly week in week out, don't expect the paying public to massage your ego and tell you how good you are. The moment you step over that line and onto the poitch, you give everything. If everything you've got ain't good enough, be prepared to step out of the way and let somone else give their all. And I feel Jason has been giving this chance because we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel, we have nowhere else to turn, the performance against Leicester on Monday was the worst performance I have seen at St Mary's since relegation. And so, we need someone who has a point to prove, and luckily for you Jason,m that'll be YOU. So, when you step up, when you put your heart and soul into Saints game in game out, accept the criticism as well as you accept the plaudits, you'll have my support. I don't boo my own players btw, but, I will not support a player that doesn't give a stuff about this team when he's on that pitch, to me, that's like turning up to work, picking my nose and asking to be paid, then tweeting about the director when he gives me less responsibility. I will support you Jason when you represent yourself as a profeesional of this club! When you deserve to have you're name sung out, you will get it. When you have a stinker you will have my backing because over time you have proved yourself, and everyone can have a stinker and needs support when they do. However, I've NEVER been to work where I've got things really wrong or messed up real bad or just couldn't be bothered and the paying client has gathered outside the office and chanted One John Smith, there's only one John Smith, one John Smith! Funnily enough, it probably would help, but, I don't expect it! Jason, play well, work hard and you have my support, take the p**s and if you rot in the reserves I'll happily donate to pay your wages, call it income support! In fairness, our fans above all others in my experience, are tolerant of lack of ability. We are not, rightly, tolerant of lack of EFFORT.
