saintscottofthenortham Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 Evening all. Moved into this place just over a year ago and have had this damned noisy bathroom mixer tap. It sort of... screams. Strange thing is, it's quietest when i have it up full whack. The rest of the taps in the hose are ok, just the damn bathroom. Hasn't really been a problem up until now, as I am up for work at 5 and it is waking the kids up, and the missus is not a happy bunny. Anyone have any idea what could be causing it? Any help, much appreciated. SSOTN
Jillyanne Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 Our upstairs toilet makes a hell of a noise when flushed , well more the pipes really, very annoying!
Saint in Paradise Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 No help I am afraid to say, but I have just spoken to a plumber friend who has had over 45 years in the trade and he says he has never come across anything like you describe. However if you would like to pay for a return business class ticket he might come over and have a look.
Brizzie Saints Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 My guess would be either air in the pipes or pipes not secure in the wall but i'm no plumber so dont know why i bother really.
ericofarabia Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 When you say Bathroom Mixer Tap - is this specifically asociated with the bath and/or shower or also the sink and bidet if you are posh like us and haver one (good for washing feet in!!). Ours sounds like a pump problem from the water tank, but why only the bathrooms / showers and not the kitchen is strange. Sorry no answers but it might narrow it down a bit. Do you have a Boiler or Combi hot water system?
timebomb Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 I am no plumber but have had problems similar to this. I think it is caused by the internal shape of your mixer causing turbulence with the high pressure water going through it. A test would be to turn down the pressure on the mains stopcock and try it again. If that works fit a pressure reducing valve to the input of the mixer.
