saints_is_the_south Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Jumping the gun a bit before Saturday's game, but to be honest all I am really thinking about is Tuesday night;s against Cardiff which for me is the biggest game of the season so far. For what is a massive massive game I'd like to think the fans will turn out in force, and hopefully we can get a packed St Mary's for this one. Anybody heard anything on ticket sales so far?
Jack Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Yep, people need to sort themselves out and get down there. Monday was an embarrassment.
Micky Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Whatever the numbers - I just hope they stay behind the boys all the way through the game. No booing - just great support.
SaintAndy14 Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 I predict 22,748 Higher or lower? Higher! 25,214
LGTL Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 I doubt we'll barely hit 21,000. Our support is shocking.
ThreeSixty Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Monday was poor but that was on telly. I'd say ~25k
Matthew Le God Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 (edited) Yep, people need to sort themselves out and get down there. Monday was an embarrassment. 21,014 an embarrassment? For a fixture... - In the second tier against a team in 15th place - On a week night in January - With only 592 away fans - Live on TV - Little interest from business community to fill corporate seats for a game like this Not many teams in England would manage that. In October 2011 Saints played West Ham, 1st vs 2nd, on a weeknight, not on TV, with a large away following and it was an all time club record attendance of 32,152. SaintAndy14 Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 I doubt we'll barely hit 21,000. Our support is shocking. We had a full house against the team in 2nd on a Tuesday night, what makes you think now that we will have 10,000 less against the team in 3rd? Apart from the obvious fact that they won't bring as many supporters...

The empty sections always look worse on TV anyway.

And people on here have a pop at other clubs who can't fill their grounds, and say we are a premier league club, with premier league facilities, stadium, and fan base. Yes, 11k+ empty seats is embarrassing in my opinion

Yes, 11k+ empty seats is embarrassing in my opinion That doesn't counter the points I made. Very few clubs in England would get 21k when you take into account all the factors I listed. Take away a number of those factors and you get an attendance like the all time club record of 32,152 Saints had in October last year. Edited 28 January, 2012 by Matthew Le God
Nexstar Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 21014 for a fixture: - at home in the Championship having just been promoted Where have you been for 8 months? - with the chance to return to the TOP of the championship - against one of the pre season promotion favourites Who have completely failed. Means nothing. - having been averaging over 25k at home this season Monday night (rarely used for football). On TV. No away fans basically. Poor IMO. And people on here have a pop at other clubs who can't fill their grounds, and say we are a premier league club, with premier league facilities, stadium, and fan base. Yes, 11k+ empty seats is embarrassing in my opinion We do have Premier League facilities and a ground good enough for the Prem. I don't see how either of these points are relevant to your argument. We're not a Premier League club, we currently sit 2nd in the nPower Championship. When in the Premiership we hit around 30,000 fans each week and, based mainly upon away fixtures, our support appears to have grown a lot since then. I hope all these points help you to understand that it is not "embarrassing".
Jack Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 Ok, so embarrassing was obviously too strong. Disappointing then. This is our first season back in the Championship and we're on for back-to-back promotions. I think it's a shame that our support isn't slightly more enthusiastic about that. Would you be happy if we got to the prem, started with a few sell-outs, then say we lost 2-0 at home to Bolton in front of 24k and saw the side booed off at HT and FT? You will say that's irrelevant, but I think it's about people forgetting exactly where we just came from.
doddisalegend Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 Monday night is a s hit time to hold a football match which is why less people turn up If it had been at 3.00 on a saturday I'm sure there would have been a lot more fans at SMS. The great thing is if we get back to the PL we can look forward to lots more stupid f ucking fixtures at crap times on crap days.
IFHP Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 And to think some think an extra 20,000 would come to see us in the premiership. Our support is good but not as good as some make out.
surrey1saint Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 Whatever the numbers - I just hope they stay behind the boys all the way through the game. No booing - just great support. This!!
Dr Who? Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 100% behind the lads, we have a big promotion push on..... COYR!!!
dune Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 (edited) During our Premiership days it was once mentioned by Rupert Lowe that we had the largest proportion of attendees from outside the city limits of any club in the division. However since though days Cortese has come in and introduced a ticket tax and a match day premium tax. So with rising fuel costs combined with these ticket taxes it's hardly surprising that people aren't bothering any more. Edited 28 January, 2012 by dune

Season ticket holders from outside the city was the stat, and you don't get taxed on season tickets do you..... Yawn
Seaford Saint Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 I think you ladies underestimate how difficult it is for people to attend evening games. The journey in is a night mare once I hit chilworth. I crawl across the city, even getting to Southampton is a ****. I blame the Tories
saintmatt Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 21014 for a fixture: - at home in the Championship having just been promoted - with the chance to return to the TOP of the championship - against one of the pre season promotion favourites - having been averaging over 25k at home this season Poor IMO. Yes, 11k+ empty seats is embarrassing in my opinion Surely that counters any embarrassment you felt? Or are you one of those that allows their mood to fluctuate on a game-by-game basis rather than looking at the bigger picture? We lost on Monday BUT we're still in automatic promotion spot as a newly promoted side. Our attendance on Monday wasn't great BUT our season average (the most telling stat) is very good and it was on TV etc etc
Vershinin Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 My problem on Monday wasn't so much the attendance (it was poor by our usual standards although there were some mitigating circumstances) but it was more to do with the awful attitude of the fans who did go. **** poor atmosphere, moaning, booing, it was just ****ing embarrassing for this football club. 2-0 down against MK Dons and the fans pulled us back into that game, Monday was just abysmal and some people who went should be ****ing ashamed. Hopefully that was the low point and we'll be back to our usual high standards of support on Tuesday. UTS
dune Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 (edited) What an idiotic comment. Season ticket holders from outside the city was the stat, and you don't get taxed on season tickets do you..... Yawn Yes you're right it was season ticket holders. With rising travel costs those old season ticket holder numbers will have diminished. This will have put these people in the pay as you go section. With the ticket tax and the matchday premium these fans that live a distance from the ground are the ones who suffer the most - a double whammy when you also factor in rising fuel prices. It's no surprise to me that our attendances are lower than many think they should be. I'm glad they are low because it highlights the the negative impact of the ticket tax/matchday premium tax. The King Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 I'm guna boo my ass off if we lose. We pay their wages and I want my money's worth.
dune Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 I live in Andover and go to every home game, what's your point? Wow, that's a long way to travel. I know of lot's of fans that travel from outside the county including as far north as the midlands. The price of fuel/travelling is now getting ridiculous. And then what do the club do - they whack on a ticket tax or put the price up to pay on the day. They even hold back selling away tickets on matchdays just so they can rake in another booking fee.
Vershinin Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 If we lose im going to boo. What you gunna do about it? You can do what the **** you like. Just hoping some of our decent fans are in attendance on Tuesday.

70's Mike Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 these threads always make me laugh stop talking about it and get to the game
John B Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 these threads always make me laugh stop talking about it and get to the game I am going but I prefer it when it is not packed easier to get a beer have a pee and get home
Toomer Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 We win, Ipswich win back on top, fingers crossed.
los_saint Posted 28 January, 2012 Posted 28 January, 2012 we're still in automatic promotion spot as a newly promoted side. Great isn't it? Still very positive about the rest of the season but I feel we simply must beat Cardiff. Not only an important 3 points up for grabs against a promotion rival but also an opportunity to make a statement to the rest of the league by way of a resounding home win. COYR.

But a couple of girls from my work who went for the first time (boyfriends), said they were suprised by the amount of abuse etc hurled at the saints team, from saints fans. The odd outburst of fustration occasionally, fine. But it seems more and more continuous.
Ken Tone Posted 30 January, 2012 Posted 30 January, 2012 I think you ladies underestimate how difficult it is for people to attend evening games. The journey in is a night mare once I hit chilworth. I crawl across the city, even getting to Southampton is a ****. I blame the Tories Don't tell anyone else but if you're coming in from the A34/M3 as your location implies, it's actually usually quieter, and therefore quicker, to stay on the motorway to Stoneham, first exit on M27, and come in via Thomas Lewis Way. And I blame the Tories too!
iansums Posted 30 January, 2012 Posted 30 January, 2012 Hospitality for me for this game, apparently with a few Cardiff fans.
