What do you collect?

I used to collect program's and Saints shirts.

Then I collected American football helmets, followed by fridge magnets.

Now I do not really collect anything, apart from pound coins! I have about 620 of them!

Do any of you collect anything strange or normal.

"Classic and Sportscar" magazines, I have all of the issues dating back about five years, then odd ones dating back as far as 1986.

Plus I would love to add to my collection of (2) 80's BMWs, but just don't have the space to keep them. I have a mint '86 635csi and an '84 K100.

17th century (and earlier) brass candlesticks (side ejector and pr1cket), georgian wine labels, old english/hanoverian serving spoons, cocquilla nut napoleonic pow carved pomanders, liptons empire exhibition tea caddies (although got too many the same and now stoped)

Dr Who, how much would you take for your £ coin collection?

Well I think that with so many I would need a least £1,500 for that family holiday. It is strange, every time I have a pound coin I cannot spend it, I break another note, and then collect it. I suppose it is more of a saving than a collection, but was wondering if many people have more individual pounds than me?

Mum used to be the same with 2 pound coins, she carried on for a bout 3 years and ended up collecting close to 3 grand.

I must confess I have been an incorrigible bibliophile seen my early teens if not before, mostly historical subjects. It has gotten so bad I've bought books I've never read just for the pleasure of possessing them in my collection - the storage of which is a near insurmountable problem.

But the internet has taken a lot of the fun out of it. There's a certain hard-to-explain pleasure to be had from calling into a decent second hand bookshop, having a good old rummage, and finding a title you've been seeking for years/decades perhaps that only someone suffering from a bad case of the true 'collecting mania' could possibly understand.

You can find almost anything you want now with a quick internet search - it's just not the same somehow.

The problem with internet collecting is the price. Things tend to achieve their market value or above (with exceptions granted but this isn't that frequent). I do enjoy looking round second hand shops, antiques shops, car boot sales, charity shops (although they tend to overprice now) for little gems that have been underpriced.

That said i've just purchased an 18th C brass chamberstick (side ejector) for a tenner online with no one else bidding.

Some bargains can be had on ebay. You just have to get in there quick with the sellers who may know no better. Making offers for items can be a very good tool.

Also a hint for this one is do searches for mis-spelt items. Like royal doulton.

How does Mao fit into your collection of royal mugs?

Oh I only collect communist mugs, with so many to choose from it'll take me a while to amass them all.

How are your remedial history studies coming along by the way ? I know you made a shaky start with early Athenian Democracy, 20th Century History & Constitutional Studies, but the secret of success sometimes lays more in perspiration rather than inspiration I'm told, so keep plugging away and you may get there eventually.

I have a thing for 20 pence pieces. I always check them looking one with a missing date. I purposely put a pound coin in the tea machine at work so it gives change in 20p's.

That is the same as me with pund coins, I end up taking out notes and buying things so I get pound coins!

I like The Jam but don't know wtf you are on about. Please enlighten me?

I also collect elastic bands left on the pavement by postmen. Lazy bastards

Pebbles on a beach is a Weller song from his solo collection.

Yes I collect the red elastic bands at work... I have a big ball going on!

I sed to collect loads of junk when I was a kid, badges, matchboxes, stamps, PG Tips cards, sadly I still have them all in the loft . All I actively collect now is Queen Fan Club magazines & Saints matchday programmes, I have one for every game I ever went too - with one exception - that being MLTs testimonial.
