Colinjb Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 I've really gone for the running as part of a new year's resolution. I've got to the point of cracking 5 miles at a pace of 10 minutes per mile and i'm feeling quite good with it however I am suffering from numbness in my left foot and occasional blisters. I've been recommended some kinds of socks (circulatory ones and cushioned running ones) and i've already had a pair of Asics specified for me based on some gait analysis the local running shop did for me but I would like to hear from anyone else who may have had similar experiences. Don't like the sound of that numbness, could be that you're lacing your shoes too tightly. I always wear Nikes now mainly because I can't stand clumpy shoes. Then again according to the old gait analysis I'm mechanically perfect and don't need much cushioning or any correction at all. Thats funny to hear, I've been back to the running shop and they are suggesting I lace my shoes tighter. My left ankle was quite badly sprained about 8 months ago and it's still getting back to where it needs to be. With every run the numbness is taking longer to come, Initially it was after 2 miles, now it takes 4 for it to come in, better then having screaming calf muscles either way. Adrian, I am doing BMF (British Military Fitness) classes 2-3 times a week as well to do more general fitness stuff. They seem to work very well, I am quite frankly delighted, I have gone from no more then 2 miles at the start of Jan to 5 miles wishing I could keep going further by now. The only thing stopping me is a desire to avoid injury.

What shop did you get the analysis from? Been meaning to go back to UpandRunning in chandlers ford for analysis and new running shoes but just wondering if there's somewhere better... I use a shop called 'Coventry Runner' and i'm sure they'd be happy to help, but the distance to travel may be a bit much!
Window Cleaner Posted 29 January, 2012 Share Posted 29 January, 2012 Here you go Colin, have a look and see if any of this is similar to your problem. Compression is the most likely cause, may be you'll be able to spot something specific here. http://www.active.com/running/Articles/What_causes_foot_numbness_in_runners_.htm
