bridge too far Posted 30 January, 2012 Posted 30 January, 2012 Spot on, Governments of both colours would struggle to run a **** up in a brewary let alone a bank.Alister Darling set the terms of running the bank and they were very specific, it was not to be run with the interference of ministers and was not to be run like a nationlised industry. If we want our money back, we are going to need banks to get back to profitability ASAP. This witchhunt will put the best people off working in the banks that we own. Now what about the obscence salary's that other publically owned companies pay. What about Clakson's salary, or David Dimble's. What about Chris Evan's or Graham Norton. Milliband's a bit quiet on those ones. It's very easy to pick on this guy, who was headhunted by the last Government . If I might be a tad pedantic...... Those 'stars' you mention would be self-employed (otherwise they would be constrained as to which organisations they could work for). They might be contracted for a specific piece of work in the same way as a developer would contract with a tradesman, but they are not directly employed by publicly owned companies.
Jonnyboy Posted 30 January, 2012 Posted 30 January, 2012 The poor poor man only earned £36million from 2008-2011, how will he get by???
trousers Posted 31 January, 2012 Posted 31 January, 2012 Ian Collins (@iancollinsuk) 1/30/12 7:36 PM We got our pound of flesh by stopping the Hester bonus. Saving a cool million. As a result 580 mil was wiped of RBS value today. Great logic
SaintBobby Posted 31 January, 2012 Posted 31 January, 2012 I basically agree with this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2093995/How-vilification-Stephen-Hester-cost-billions.html

Power to the (blinkered) people! And, besides, we can always blame CaMoron (*chortle*) when it all goes tits up again. You gotta love the logic of the human race sometimes

moonraker Posted 31 January, 2012 Posted 31 January, 2012 Having read through the thread I offer a couple of observations. The OP compared Hester to a Public Sector worker or Civil Servant, as part of the Gov cuts civil servants have had their bonuses scrapped together with a wage freeze, this is not related to their performance purely a Gov imposed change to their terms of employment. I know of a recent Gov programme where the Civil Servant responsible delivered the programme ahead of schedule and £2m under budget, he got no additional bonus or pay rise for saving the exchequer what was effectively 30 times his own salary. Also the notion that bankers will emigrate, the biggest bluff of all time, we should call it. PS I am not a public sector worker.
