theyin Posted 26 January, 2012 Posted 26 January, 2012 Kevin Davies??? Why on earth not? I'd bank on him being a more reliable source of goals, assists and crosses than Guly during the run in, any day of the week. Lambo & Davis, they'd be knockout. Guardian reports Sunderland in for loaning him. I'd have him. Anyone else had three stints for Saints?
Saint_clark Posted 26 January, 2012 Posted 26 January, 2012 How on earth is Guly NOT a reliable source of goals and assists? Not sure why crosses even comes into it, but if we're counting those as well - there is no way Davies would run the wings more than Guly.
Denzil Posted 26 January, 2012 Posted 26 January, 2012 What is the fascination with ex players on here? No no no.

Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Loan to premier league Sunderland on a good wage or drop down to championship and reduction in wages.... Hmmm tough one! I swear some people need to engage their brains before letting their fingers type. You may as well ask about our thoughts on signing Messi!

I'd bank on him being a more reliable source of goals, assists and crosses than Guly during the run in, any day of the week. Guly's such an unreliable source of goals, what a **** record 22 goals in 68 games is for someone predominantly playing in midfield, along with however many assists. Compare that with the stellar performance of Mr Davies this season, a whopping three goals in 23 games. Sign him up...

ericb Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Dammit people got here before me with the pointing out the ****ing obvious! But yeah Guly's not reliable at all, it's not like he's our second highest scorer or anything right......
Cestrian Saint Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Bolton don't want to loan him out so Sunderland are prepared to offer a permanent deal. We really don't need him.

S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Guly is within the top 3 scorers at this level. I'd say he's pretty reliable. You're going to have to find someone pretty damn good to be more reliable than that. And what is it with people living in the past??? Let them go...they played for us once, they won't again. We don't go after has-beens anymore, that isn't our transfer policy.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 I always cringe when so called 'experts' on here slate a player because of recent form in another team, especially when said player has been plying his trade in a higher league. You can't judge a player entirely by that standard - a change of manager, playing style and team-mates for example could make all the difference and provide a new lease of life. To think otherwise is immature at best.
david in sweden Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 (edited) we are overloaded with "skilful, creative players"....Let's just sign a couple of good strikers whoknow how to put it in the back of the net, instead ! Forget the skill. Names like these(K. Davies) are desperation moves, especially when were supposed to be thinking ...PREMIERSHIP ! PREMIERSHIP ! (someone's) rumour said NA wanted Beattie.. but that Cortese said no. GOOD ! Hope he says no to this idea, too. I have nice recollections of some of our former players - I'd like to keep it that way. The phrase .." never go back" is 99% right, and never truer than in League football. It often leads only to dismal performances, disappointment, and disgusted fans. georgeweahscousin Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Do people want us to go backwards? Davies over Guly? Davies is a lump of a player for teams that play hoofball!

You can't judge a player entirely by that standard - a change of manager, playing style and team-mates for example could make all the difference and provide a new lease of life. To think otherwise is immature at best. Immature? Give it a rest. Fact is Kevin Davies has never been a prolific goalscorer at whatever level he's played. So it is more than safe to say he would not be a more reliable source of goals than Guly who actually has a pretty good record. He obviously has other facets to his game but quite frankly I wouldn't want him back because during his second stint with us he was utter dog sh:t...
rooney Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 No. Too lazy and not the player to spur us onto the Premiership as he is in the twilight of his playing days for big clubs now.
stevegrant Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 I didn't even realise his record was that good! Those figures include around a dozen sub appearances as well. In terms of goals-to-minutes-played, his record's probably not dissimilar to Lambert, who generally plays the full 90 minutes every game.
scotty Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Bring back everyone that once played for us +1. Is Ali Dia still going?

Stubby Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Bolton don't want to loan him out so Sunderland are prepared to offer a permanent deal. We really don't need him. Good enough for Sunderland but not good enough for us? Are you sure about that?
Crazy Diamond Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Yet another pointless thread that could have been a post in the January window thread. I'll treat it as if it was in the January thread though, just in this one instance. Do I want Kevin Davies back and should we get him back? NO.
SNSUN Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 People struggle enough on here to spell Kelvin Davis's name correctly. With Kev in our team all hell would break loose with the spelling errors.
ART Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 We do need a player of Kevin Davies' build and capacity to tie up oppositions defenders. The one thing that Kevin has is the complete lack of fear of tackling. I don't think signing him would be an option but having him on loan till the end of the season would be a good move.
buctootim Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 People struggle enough on here to spell Kelvin Davis's name correctly. Too true. Its Kelvin Davis'
Stubby Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Too true. Its Kelvin Davis' No it isn't. Not in British English anyway. It is in American English. And, I regret, the American usage seems to be taking over.
Dalek2003 Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Bring back everyone that once played for us Never happens with saints, fans won't let it, especially successful ex managers.
Norm Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Bring back everyone that once played for us Ok, I'll start. Shilton Ivan the Great Jimmy Gabriel Tony Knapp Dennis Hollywood Steve Williams Alan Ball Jimmy Case Terry Paine The Great Ron Davies MLT Is this what you had in mind?

Shilton Ivan the Great Jimmy Gabriel Tony Knapp Dennis Hollywood Steve Williams Alan Ball Jimmy Case Terry Paine The Great Ron Davies MLT Is this what you had in mind? Great one Norm. Wouldn't it be amazing in a couple of bottox jabs and a few glasses of the fountains of life could work their magic and recreate the magic of those days. Cliff Huxford and Chris Marsden would certainly be in my number.
Colinjb Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 #Playing Devils Advocate# We could do worse for someone else to play in the Lambert role. #back to reality# NEVER go back.
Micky Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 Never happens with saints, fans won't let it, especially successful ex managers. WGS moved on to pastures new - and really it didn't work out for him to well. Before us he was at Coventry - again not a great success. Sometimes it is the club that also makes the manager a success.
scotty Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 In that case Emile Heskey's available on loan Not any more. He's been snapped up by a resort in Benidorm, giving rides along the beach. Adults two euros or 50 cents for kids.
SuperMikey Posted 27 January, 2012 Posted 27 January, 2012 If we can get him cheap then we should give him a year and a half contract I think. Very experienced at Prem level and would be able to teach our current crop of strikers how to do it up there. Great stand-in for RL as well.

As for the fountain of life fluid, I have tried everywhere for it but it seems out of stock! Hope life is treating you well in the French sun?

Hope life is treating you well in the French sun? I can never remember our Norm making such a huge faux pas. How I could do with some of that fountain of life fluid. Been on my pension since end of July but what a palaver I had to get it all sorted. Being nearly house bound and walking with 2 sticks I could do with a lease of energy and life.
