Big_Bald_Si Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 Nope, let's just keep Kelvin Davis for the next 20 years
David Strover Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 Joe Lewis is not as good as people think. He doesn't give up a lot of rebounds and is always there for a quick unexpected spill.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 Yes we need a goalkeeper in the future. No we do not want Joe Lewis, massively over-rated, flaps and parries too much. Posh fans on Twitter can't stand his consistent selection.

Posh fans on Twitter can't stand his consistent selection. Surely we have already planned for a replacement, his name is Bart. Apart from one nightmare match, he is what is needed and is here as future replacement for KD. Why would we need to take Lewis if he flaps and parries too much, sounds too much like Kelvin on his off days.
dubsaint Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 We should have done it long ago and had someone ready to take over from Davies
Capel Saint Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 Yes, we do need to be looking at a replacement keeper as I am not sure Bart is up to the job. The Blackpool game was not the first time he has had a nervy performance in the first team and I do wonder whether he has got so used to playing much less pressured reserve games that he can't handle the pressure any more when he appears in the first team. Kelvin will need replacing in a couple of seasons so Adkins needs to be looking at this area of the team. There was a rumour that Saints were looking at a keeper who plays in the Dutch league but haven't heard anymore about that.
derry Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 If we want to play out from the back we need a keeper that wants to play that way and is comfortable passing the ball quickly. Davis is very uncomfortable and takes forever so the ball usually ends back with him then being lumped first time anywhere up the field. With Davis as long as he is here we might as well let him do what he is comfortable with in the first place and hit it long to Lambert. Not ideal but better an accurate long ball than a hurried punt. Badger Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 (edited) Yes. For this season we need a capable back up option for KD, and longer term we need to find his successor. Not convinced that Lewis is the right candidate though, towards the end of last season he had a run of games involving errors on a par with Bialkowski's Blackpool fiasco. Butland is a good nomination someone posted yesterday, although doubt Brum would be tempted to sell now. I would have said McCarthy at Reading but with their rumoured new owner they may not need to sell. Edited 26 January, 2012 by Badger

Chez Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 If the money there then maybe we could try to improve, but its easier said than done. Buckland or Craig Gordon if wages are not prohibited.
Pat from Poole Posted 26 January, 2012 Share Posted 26 January, 2012 I've seen many worse keepers than the Cheats keeper Henderson. Pretty solid from what I've seen of him.

Dr Who? Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 Good shout and one that people (including myself) have missed, we need back up for Kelvin. Another game like Blackpool could cost us the points needed to go up in the run in.
david in sweden Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 YES of course. 30 is young for a keeper, and they get better with age. e.g. Shilton, Van der Sar ..Niemi (!). Think KD is playing better now that when he came. But some Premiership sides have TWO international keepers...I'm afraid that I'm not convinced that Bart is even good enough for CC ....at the moment. The longer he stays as no.2 - the worse it will be. Played only 30 games in 5 years. He should have a season out on loan to a CCC /L1 side to get experience. Get in another experienced keeper with Prem. and (preferably) International background.
Mowgli Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 We have two good Championship keepers and Kelvin would be OK in the Premiership but not for long. Assuming we go up and Leicester don't I would expect us to go for Kasper.

saint-ross Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 I dont nderstand why he is so highly rated. I seen him make far more howlers than Bart, costing his team loads of points. He is no better than anything we have IMO. No thanks!
bowers-sfc Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 We should go for kasper if we gain promotion. I think hes class and exactly what we need.
Ian the Red Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 We defo need a new keeper. KD has been a fantastic loyal servant to the Club but we need a new keeper. I'd go for Schiemichel.
derry Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 Next year if we get promoted Davis needs to be replaced before the first game. Premier sides will slaughter him and pick off his well known weaknesses.
S-Clarke Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 Next year if we get promoted Davis needs to be replaced before the first game. Premier sides will slaughter him and pick off his well known weaknesses. I would agree with that. I think he'll struggle in the premiership personally. Long-shots aplenty etc. He's been a great servent for us and is one of my favourite players - but if and when we get promoted I think he should take a backseat to someone new, fresh and young - and I can potentially see Davis becoming a coach in and around the club. The9 Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 If we go up we need a Prem keeper, but Kelv is fine at this level at the moment and Joe Lewis has looked pretty dodgy even in League One at times.
buctootim Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 We should have done it long ago and had someone ready to take over from Davies This really. Joe Davis may develop over time but we need someone seasoned and ready to go as No1 perhaps as early as next season.

CWD Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 If we go up and Blackburn and/or Wolves go down then we should definitely go for Robinson or Hennessey. Ben Foster would be a cracking signing too.
Golden Balls Posted 27 January, 2012 Share Posted 27 January, 2012 I've been saying it ever since we played Leicester away (and others have said it on this thread), but if we go up, we should table a very serious bid for Kasper Schmeichel. He is brilliant and still very young for a keeper.

Saint_clark Posted 28 January, 2012 Share Posted 28 January, 2012 I reckon we've been planning for a new keeper for at least the last year. There must be hundreds of keepers on the continent who could play in the Prem - I'd hope our scouts have been watching them closely.
