What did Norwich do?

When Norwich went from L1 to the Premier league in two seasons, how much activity did they have in the transfer window last year?

Did they make a lot of moves, or basically stick with what they had from L1?

Seems like an interesting parallel to our position.

Norwich times it so they had a great run in. We had a superior start but appear to have run out of steam. Different scenario.

I believe every single contributor to Norwich supporters web-forums is unreservedly positive about the manager and every single player that has ever pulled on a Norwich City shirt. It is this positive attitude from their internet forums which is recognised as the single most important contributor to their success.

So its all down to us on here! if anyone on a web forum voices any criticism of the club management the team will play poorly. If only we'd known this in November, the haemorrhaging of points since then wouldn't have happened.

As I said, totally different scenario.

Agree that the Naaaarrrrge situation should not be used as a template for success with regards to transfer activity.

Am I right in thinking that West Ham have only signed George John from MLS?

The January transfer window is a very difficult time to add real quality, we may have actually performed quite well all things considered.

If you disagree then why not offer your opinion instead of this pathetic reply? It does you no favours.

I'm sorry Hypo, it's just that you speak with such authority on such matters, it's difficult for anyone to argue. I could put together a 1000 word post looking at the merits of both us and Norwich and come up with some sort of conclusion but you'd steam in with one of your enlighted one sentenced replies and blow it out the water!

So in reality, you agree that there is a big difference between us and Norwich and you can't formulate a proper reply so you choose to go after the poster instead. As I said, pathetic.

Standard forum rules - criticise the post, not the poster.

Back OT, it is very different as Norwich changed their squad quite significantly during pre-season, which IMO caused their slower start (compared to ours) but benefitted them towards the end of the season, when the squad gelled. We, on the other hand, had the core of a NPC squad when we arrived here, needing only a select few quality additions to get us to where we are (Cork and Jos being two key examples). The foundations of our squad are as they were in L1.

What we do have in common with Norwich and almost every other club in the Jan transfer window, is we've had half a season to identify weaknesses which we now need to remedy.

I think they made a good keeper signing, that helped. We had a better team and improved on it too, but we've been a bit loyal to our keeper.

KD is plenty good enough for us, but he is reaching the later stages of his career at this level. Replacing him, IMO, isn't a priority until we're back in the Prem.

I think ingnoring the point of a poster who has bothered to some research on the subject with an arrogant "I know best" reply is more pathetic.

Other than the fact that Norwich signed 4 more players than us in the summer before their NPC campaign, whats the main difference then and why are the scenarios so different that we can't compare? You mentioned the sequence of wins and form but what does that matter come end of season?

Much has been made out of our transfer activity so far but I bet that many on here would do the usual "underwhelmed" routine had we signed half of the players on that list above. What it shows me is that you don't have to spend millions on "names" in order to get out of this league.

I'd hope he'd be replaced for next season regardless of promotion. He's done fine, he makes some saves, but it's all very limited. A great keeper and we'd be in a much better position, IMO.

Not that I can think of any to sign so it's a bit redundant.

Rumours around that we are in for a young keeper from Brum. Not sure how good he is though.

We have a young and promising keeper in Bart, who with games and experience will be much better than he is now. That's not the route I think we should take though, we need to find an established keeper that's already playing, perhaps somebody from one of the better L1 clubs if we look now, or NPC clubs if we're in the Prem.

Kasper Schmeichel would do very nicely :)

....sounds like a sensible attitude to take, and showing loyalty but obviously if thats the case - we don't stand a chance of promotion... judging by some of these threads.

There are people on here who forecast we would finish 17th in CC, who are calling us failures because we've sunk to second spot....what can you expect?

Well we have failed to match their expectations.

Not entirely relevant to the OT but just something I find interesting and also reassuring.

When you compare the 3 newly promoted clubs, Norwich, QPR and Swanea there is a noticeable difference in their transfer activity.

Forgive me for not having a list of all their Summer activity here but Swansea brought in Danny Graham from Watford and Vorm from Utrecht (I think) plus some others I can't remember. Both relatively unknown and not the kind of names to excite fans of Premier League clubs. Norwich brought in Steve Morison from Millwall and he's doing a job for them. Apart from that (please correct me if I'm mistaken) their team doesn't look completely different to how it looked in the NPC.

QPR though brought in all big name players. Barton, Wright-Phillips, Ferdinand, Puncheon (joke) and yet they are struggling a lot more than the other two who are very much holding their own.

My point is, judging by this you don't need to suddenly be making bids for well known players on huge wages to have a respectable stab at the PL. Someone will probably now come and contradict me, but whatever. Just my POV.

Note how decisive they were in the summer transfer. Lambert had the players in mind and wanted them early so they picked up the ethos and knew what was wanted. Saints faffed around all summer and in the January window !
