Puncheon back in 1st team

Given that only yesterday Puncheon was slagging of NC and threatening to call in the PFA - I find it highly unlikely that in the space of 24 hours all resentment and misunderstanding has been put aside. NA stated that Punch would never play for the club again, and the only thing I can see that has changed the management's mind is a desperate need for new bodies because we can't get anyone else in.

Or it indicates that we couldn't sell him to anyone, and so we were stuck with him anyway.

Hey, Punch. Welcome back. You have the talent and creativity. That inevitably comes with sensitivity. Ignore those with less talent than you and do your talking on the pitch. You will become a hero overnight if you get us up. That's the nature of this game!

Also as for being a low risk gamble, it is a risk as there's every chance he hasn't actually changed and merely wants to use this as a shop window opportunity thus unsettling the squad again with his Mr Big attitude. He hasn't settled at any club for a reason, let's hope this is the time he changes his attitude for the better.

Even if he is just playing for a transfer away in the summer, its low risk for us. If he plays one game for us, he cannot play for another team this season, even on loan (as he'll have played for 2 clubs already). So if he is looking for a move away, he needs to put the performances in, which benefit us. And as I sadi, he doesn't seem to have burned his bridges with the players or the manager, so that's not something I have huge concern about. I always thought the biggest hurdles were between Puncheon and the chairman, and Puncheon and the fans. The chairman has seemingly thawed in his approach to the player, hopefully the fans can too. Even if we can still agree that Puncheon is, in all likelihood, a monumental tw*t.

Here we go again....

No but he's not wrong, we could have done with Puncheon on Monday, then again I don't rate De Ridder and the new lad...well he's a new lad who's played very little English football. To have voluntarily deprived ourselves of Punch is a weeny bit silly although I guess we were trying to sell him.

It works in our favour on a number of levels. Quite apart from his potential contribution on the put, we get another chance to put him in the shop window -and its much harder to sell a player when they're not playing- and we signal to others that he's part of our plans and won't go for a knockdown price in the summer etc.

Ideally we would have sold him before now; but as soon as that wasn't likely to happen, only right to bring him back into the fold.

Do you think he'd have been ready and willing to play after the weekend considering at that moment in time he was probably thing his employer thought he was a c**t?

No but the situation has been ongoing for a fair old while and could have been resolved after (or even before) the end of his loan period with QPR.Punch may have apologised for his remarks but it doesn't make them any less relevant, perhaps he felt the real situation according to his belief needed to be brought into the open.As a result it's been resolved and I'm sure that we'll not be the loser from that.

He's a good player so i'm very pleased that Cortese has stopped being petty and climbed down.

I'm glad that both of them have stopped the silliness. I can't help but think that if what Puncheon said was true, then Cortese could have just met him a lot earlier and got it sorted. It shouldn't have had to take Puncheon mouthing off on twitter to get it sorted.

I'd agree with that (on the assumption there aren't any other contributory factors that we're not aware of)

Well I for one respect Puncheon immensely for what he did on twiiter. He felt under threat and he decided that the best form of defence was attack and he highlighted that Cortese was picking the team and undermining the managers authrority over handling players. I have full confidence in Nigel Adkins man management abilities and so should the chairman. my thinking is that Cortese saw the twitter comment and thought "sh/t" and decided that this story needed papering over PDQ. At present he has the happy clappys eating out of the palm of his hands, but that can soon change and being thought of as a chairman that picks the team and doesn't trust the manager is a reputation no chairman wants.

Puncheon was class when we crushed the life out of Norwich at Carrow road last time.

He is in a way, Saints' answer to Balotelli.

I don't like to be smug but I did predict his second coming and that he would be a major part in our promotion push after January in the other Puncheon thread.

Welcome back Jason, the prodigal son returns...

Hey Dune,

We are all entitles to our opinion, but mine is ..let's leave this one now...I'm glad JP is back in the fold and he might just be of some use and CDAJFU this season.

Above all else, it must be a warning to other players who want to go public with their private grievances.

Can't see anyone like Ferguson taking the Cortese line with his misfits.

Fergusson is trusted implicitly to deal with his players because he's a great manager.

Clough was trusted implicitly to deal with his players because he was a great manager.

Both managers could never have worked any other way and they wouldn't have stood for it.

I just think Cortese needs to show some faith in Nigel Adkins because I happen to think that he knows what he's doing.

Agreed?

Yay, common sense has prevailed! Fair play to both men for sorting out this issue as it was doing no good for either the club or Punch. It is a shame that it couldn't have been sorted sooner but better late than never and this is a positive for both parties.

Right I'm glad that puncheon has apologized & is back in the squad. He could well be just what we need at the moment. Providing he has his head sorted out. I can respect people being cautious over this, I just hope the crowd give him a chance, you don't have to applaud him but just hope nobody boo's him first game back at St Marys. As they say talk is cheap & actions speak louder than words. its in your hands Jason, I hope you can become the player we've all seen before on a more consistent basis.

Welcome back aboard the bus??? Rowing boat???? Has Joe Cala taken us over instead of the few, has he reduced his plans form underwater hotels to underwater buses :D.

Just had a thought....

Would be quite funny if all this happend after nicola and adkins had a chat, play him for 5 mins at the weekend, then release him.

he then cant play for another club this season. would make me laugh

Hardly. With our thin on the ground squad and lack of ambition on the signings front we are desperate. The wheels came off before Christmas and wasn't addressed early in the transfer window and the momentum has been lost. The only positive is that it can be turned around but we need to get the cheque book out for a proven quality partner for Lambert or promotion this season won't happen. Instead of lodging bids that have no chance of success, Cortese now needs realise that the cost of innaction and failing to gain promotion from the position we're in far outweighs paying the market price for a player in the January window.

]Blue line time. Need to get behind him[/b]

I don't think I have ever read an article on the OS before where I have had tears rolling down my cheeks by the end. But it has happened now. Quote from Mr Trousers above should be our policy.

Welcome back, Jason. You have the ability. We should get behind you. You are one of us. You are OUR player.

Shame, was enjoying the 'what a ******' chants Monday night.

I actually think these might have been influential...it was anti Puncheon's attack on Cortese and Cortese used it to extend the olive branch from which he was able to make the oar that will help row the bus!

But aside from confused mixing of metaphors and the fact that I'd have washed my hands of him I think it's good management on all levels...and I include Puncheon's own self-management.

I don't boo our players...I did chuckle at the chant though!

What is his new squad number?

We have 5 and 11 free, after that it's 37, 38, then 41 and upwards. Based on his position and Nigel's OCDs he'll either get 11 if we're not planning on signing another striker, or 37 if we are.

37 would amuse me, as it's the number Rob Lee got when brought back into the fold for Newcastle after Gullit froze him out and was then sacked.

Nothing on the OS yet, even though Tadanari Lee is already listed at 19.

Crikey. An obscure stat like that is certainly giving MLG a run for his money!

Mmm, good news this. When I see a determined TEAM performance from him, I will believe it to be GREAT news. We certainly need someone of his experience and drive to bolster the squad. Holmes unfortunately looked worse than I've ever seen him on Monday and it's going to take a long time for Falque to find his place.

what difference would that make, we have to pay him for the next 18 months anyway.
