Puncheon back in 1st team

If NC & NA can put the past behind them so should we, lets give the lad a chance.

Yep, agree. As others has said, he can be a match winner so lets see what he can do... he'll be a little bit off of the pace in terms of fitness though, no? Probably needs to delete his tweets as well.

Seriously, i am totally stunned by this.

I could not see a way back for him what so ever - especially after his comments the other day.

Now as fans let's get behind him if he wants to play for us. I'm still not 100% sure how stable he is....! but I think the last thing he will need now is us lot getting on his back as soon as he makes a wrong choice or a wrong pass.

At the en dof th eday, when on song, he is a premiership player - there's no denying that. So let's hope we can get the best out of him because if we can he's a huge player for us.

He's been a **** in recent times to be sure, however if Adkins and the club have put the problems of the past behind them and wish to start playing him then the fans should give him a chance when he's out there playing and hope he gives his best, since his best is very good at this level.

I don't think the club would hang about in taking back him out of the team if he half asses it.

I suspect, that his behaviour had mightily f*cked off Cortese and he has been waiting for an apology. Being a man of principle (or, is that petty?!), Cortese has still been waiting for that apology. It's taken 18 months and Puncheon has realised he has to swallow his pride for the sake of his career.

I suspect that they had this chat on Monday night/Tuesday morning and decided that Puncheon putting himself in the wrong by posting a daft remark which he could then apologise for was the way to go, hoping that everyone chose to ignore the elephant in the room of the previous misdemeanour.

Personally if they're all happy and it benefits the club, I'm fine with it, but I'm taking the whole PR stunt with a pinch of salt.

EDIT : Also, if Puncheon had just said "sorry" with nothing having happened recently, the focus then would be on "what was he apologising for?" and "why now?" whereas now there's a spurious tweet given as the reason and people aren't bothered about the previous stuff. The fact that the tweet was utterly nonsensical and out of character with Puncheon's exemplary behaviour in training and playing with the kids when asked to, doesn't seem to warrant questioning.

Then again, as I've said, I'm not that bothered, I just think it's mildly comical to see everyone just ignore it like it never mattered anyway.

I hope our idiots don't boo, the team is really struggling at the moment so some fresh legs will be welcome and for Puncheon's sake he can't afford to give less than 100%. It won't do us any favours if we boo and if he can stick a goal past Cardiff that wins us a game I won't go as far as to say all will be forgotten but we know how fickle football is. If he can get up to full fitness quickly, plus Lallana and Jos not being out for long, Rickie, Fonte and Chaplow back and a couple of badly needed new faces, we might be able to turn our form around soon.

Haven't read the whole thread, so it may have been mentioned several times before - but if that statement "from Puncheon" was not actually written by Cortese I will eat my hat.

"If you want to play football this season you will issue a statement, and this is what it will say......" :)

This is ****. I'm gonna lose my voice from groaning loudly and swearing, especially if Guly and JP start. Nightmare.

(seriously though, fair play to him for apologising, and NC for forgiving him. Let's hope he's like a new signing. Welcome back Punch)

Let's be honest, I think NC has played this whole situation fantastically well. We've been in the driving seat from day 1 and were never dictated to by him - he's now managed to u-turn it so he's back playing for us.

I think NC deserves a bit of appreciation for how he's dealt with all t his.

I have not been happy with Puncheons behaviour in recent times. But Im not one to abuse a player either.

Im pleased for the club the player and the fans that he has had the balls to apologise to those he has offended>

It is to our benefit (the Team) and puncheon this has ben resolved. he is once more a saints player and I will get behind him

as I hope my fellow supporter do. Welcome back on board what ever mode of transport we may be on Jason

No reason to think Puncheon will have to play wide right, he was most successful at the side of a diamond (like for Millwall oddly enough) and on the left. He could easily get a run ahead of Falque, who played both on the left and in the middle at times on Monday.
It would also prevent us from having to play Cork wide right. In reply to Clifford, I recall Pardew stating that he coached Puncheon to be always looking to attack the goal. It'll be interesting to see how he does in an Adkins game plan.Glad he's back in the fold, although I had trouble reading this and eating my lunch at the same time:
"Thankfully Nicola is a forgiving person who has the Club's interests at heart, he has told me that the slate has been wiped clean and I can have a fresh start."

If he knuckles down for his place and puts in some of his 'contract earning' performances it can only be a good thing for us. The squad's just so thin and I'd rather have him available for selection than not, even if he bench-warms and acts as backup.

Whatever's been said and done, Punch has a lot to offer on the pitch. If the management are willing to give him a second chance I think it's important to actually give Punch a last opportunity to shine, if he's still capable of it. Booing the first moment he makes a mistake (or, er... walks on the pitch) certainly won't help.

Whether he's truly sorry or simply wants a chance to get to the Prem is quite another issue, but I say we're better off using him as necessary and dumping him later on if it doesn't work out than to continue to struggle with makeshift players in the right mid position.

Bus, Boat, rowing boat shows we got lots of money as we are now diversifying with our transport!

It will be interesting to see how Puncheon tries to win the fans around he certainly needs to start well. I think this was always likely to happen as I saw somewhere that he was having a meeting with NC and a league rep? Well done NC for giving him a second chance and hope it did not take too much of your valuable time whilst you are finalising some more signings !

haha. I said yesterday that he should be put in the 1st team as he is fired up. No other motivation needed - he does well, then good. He does badly, then he has proved he is full of hot air. Seem to recall the reaction to this was that I was talking bull's hit.

Safe to say I was not expecting that!

Nice bit of PR work from Cortese. Puncheon showed him up in public and surprise, surprise, the first line of Puncheon's statement mentions what a top bloke he is. Cortese cracks me up.

On another note, as much as I dislike the bloke, he is exactly what we need right now. Stick him in the team against Millwall - the perfect game for his comeback. A low key game, away from home. If he scores or plays a blinder, all will soon be forgotten.

Probably time to change your twitter avatar to something a little more positive then eh Jason?

Preferably something that doesn't contain an American spelling and a wrongly conjugated word... "Spreaded" ? You mean "spread".

Chap, let's not tar all with the same brush eh? I've never booed anyone in a Saints shirt.[/quote me to good news if true we been crying out for a talented players who offer different options and it takes a big man to say sorry but i expect those haters will leave guly alone for awhile to start on puncheon again even if he played great .

He is a decent player and will help us, so lets put the past behind us!
Very true but as I've posted several places, our problem isn't the Chairman, the manager, the players, it's the twelfth man. The twelfth man has been failing and needs to get 100% behind the team, the club and give it the final push towards promotion. Patience is a virtue but at Saints it's the difference between success and failure.

there has been very little said about lallana's injury. the thought has crossed my mind his injury is long term therefore saints decided to make peace with puncheon rather than go out and spend on a new player. could be totally wrong but the fact it has been quiet about lallana injury status plus lallana hasn't tweeted for a few days which is not like him makes me think there is more to it.

Clean slate and all that.

He could turn into a hero in the next 3 months.

It could be an amazing turn around for the lad.

I remember how good he was for Milwall at this level and I'm quite excited by what a fired up and montivated Punchon could bring to us...

I think his scan is today IIRC. So no one knows anything yet, not even the bloke who told me it was long term at the match!

Will have to wait and see.

Thought they said it was his groin but you never know with Saints, he could've lost a leg for all we know.

In other news, in the last 10 minutes Guly has created a Twitter account, slagged off Ben Reeves' choice of boots, apologised to Cortese, and is now expecting people to stop slagging him off every time he puts a pass 5 yards from its target.

Clearly Ryan Dickson is doing twitter wrong. He needs to stop going on about Celebrity Big Brother and start insulting chairmen.

Breaking news: Saints squad take the new bus/boat across Southampton Water to Staplewood for training this morning:

floating-bus.jpg

Brilliant Minty. High time the club purchased a Hovercraft and really did use it to transport the squad back and forth. I can forsee the day when Staplewood is developed further and a Hovercraft becomes a regular service.
