Maynard to Wigan, Hooper and Sharp stay put- What makes Saints unattractive ?

Was at an event last night and NA mentioned he's doing a talk in Birmingham today, and he said - maybe tongue in cheek - that he hopes that by the time he gets back down south we would have signed 2 more players.

He said it with a smile in his face, and didn't sound overly serious, but a strange thing to say un-prompted.

It's not about us being unattractive, it's about Cortese only signing players he wants. Never mind what the manager wants.

Spurious boll*cks.

May as well say that the club shop assistant didn't like x players name because it was difficult to spell, and vetoed the signing

"After a slow start to life in English football (not uncommon amongst new imports) many were questioning the reasoning behind signing him. He was even cited as part of the reason that Alan Pardew and Nicola Cortese had fallen out, many suggesting that Guly had been brought in by the chairman against the wishes of the manager and that he had to play whether Pardew liked it or not. Pardew’s decision to put Guly on the bench, in what proved to be his last game in charge at Bristol Rovers many suggested had been the final straw.

This of course turned out to be nonsense, Guly was again on the bench for the five games following Pardew’s departure as Saints went on a disastrous run of form, and it was Guly as much as anyone that became a scapegoat amongst supporters."

Would be a real boost if this did happen after Monday. Was definitely on odd thing for NA to offer so fingers crossed!

On here no doubt.

what makes saints unattractive? The fickle supporters who prefer watching their football on tv. The supporters who write on forums so badly about their own players when the team were number one in the championship.

Twelfth man? We no longer have a twelfth man that remains loyally behind the manager and the team. We don't deserve a top class stadium, financial backing second to none and aren't ready from a supporters point of view to return to the premiership. How are such supporters going to survive losing game after game when even winning they're slitting their wrists and calling on hell fire to descend upon their players.

what a ridiculous post!

The reason that you are not getting this and not able to join in with the hysterical whining is that you are not an attention seeker with only a small brain and limited knowledge of football.

The normal clueless tarts are out on force as we have the misfortune to fall to 2nd in the table ffs.

They want to blame Adkins and Cortese. Thick or what?

Good test of Cortese's ability in the transfer window for Alpine and his slow friends - do a bit of research.

Question 1) where were we points and position when Cortese came in?

Question 2) where were we at the start of the January transfer window?

Question 3) was 2) better than 1) if so first window a success.

etc

Repeat that for every cycle, start of one window to the next - significant, huge improvement as to where the club is in every window.

FFS Cortese is probably the only chairman to move his club forward window to window.

If we finish this season out of automatic then I will agree this window didn't take us forward to finish off the job.

Who have West Ham signed? Who have Cardiff signed? Who have Middlesbrough signed?

Bet they would be happier in our position with the addition of Tandari Lee.

The people moaning are the same ones who thought the likes of Leicester had left us behind in the summer due to signing all the greats we were missing out on. Bet their fans (this mornings good feeling aside!) are glad they didn't have our summer and aren't sat in 2nd.

Adkins? Not worth even starting to justify a manager to them if they think he is underperforming.

pROPER ASSESSMENT

Everyone in football knows that this window is a nightmare to sign players, we will have to pay over the odds if we really want the player and that is the same for everyone else. There will be the usual last minute, deadline faxes etc. and hopefully we will be part of that. If not, then, barring injuries, we still have the same set of players that took us to the top of the league.

Can understand Maynard going to Wigan, as it stands they are a better prospect than Saints. They are likely to offer better wages for a start and there are enough sh*t teams in the Premier League at the moment for Wigan to stay up. Even if Wigan go down, they will have a decent shot at promotion for a couple of seasons with their parachute payments. All off this makes them more appealing than Saints and much more appealing than Bristol City.

Sharp... I have no idea what personal issues he may or may not have at the moment.

All sorts of rumours that he wants to come here, but we aren't bidding enough etc. etc.

1) Maynard ..don't know where Brizzle get off spreading that story as Wigan has flatly denied any interest in him (?)

2) Sharp ..agree personal issues can mean anything (his original "refusal " was obviously due to his very pregnanat wife at the time - she may have had problems during the pregnancy - and sadly the baby died after a few days). If I recall correctly, Billy didn't say he wasn't interested to come, but something along the lines of "it wasn't right at the time "..(read as pregnancy / moving home problems etc,) one article said that (despite Leicester's offer - he refused to go there).

He was surely not NA's first choice, (with such big interest in Hooper of late,) but if that's not going to happen ..then he's a good deal for that money IMO).

on the contrary--it's a rather colourful description of things but I think there's more than a little truth in much of it.

His original post asked "what makes Southampton so unattractive..."? So he is asking the question about players coming here, is he not? If so, please point me in the direction of any player that looks on the clubs fans' website forum, because everyone across the whole footballing world would be a near damn mirror reflection of this, every forum has its Alpines and Dunes etc, they haven't got anything better to do! As for support? Our support (for some second rate country bumpkin city) is pretty damned good at home, a few idiots booed, yeah, out of frustration more than anything no doubt, you can't judge us on that and show me a player who would.

Basically its "how much a week?" and "where do I sign?".

Thats why the post was ridiculous.

I don't know that we are unattractive !

aside from the recent "blips " but what do you expect when your without the best three players in your squad?

NA says he doesn't use it as an excuse..but then again they're in the side every match ... so they aren't just ordinary squad members...

I think there are a number of issues here. (Every player has his price, or so they say)...We saw that when selling Alex OC to Arsenal.... a deal for £15 million !

Clubs who have a limited amount of good talent want the best they can get, and in most CCC sides that one - max. two players and their clubs want too much for the level of player and the league they're playing in.

Example ; Burnley & Brizzle won't be able to sell because they want too much and the players concerned aren't top class.

When you go to an auction, you know how high you're willing to go to buy (or at least you should do ). IMO most of the players we've been linked with aren't worth anywhere near the money their clubs are demanding. Celtic have the AOC money before their eyes and want to get more of it than we've offered.

If we were crazy enough to offer £7 million - it'd be an offer thay couldn't refuse and Hooper wouldn't say no to 24K week (and a 50% rise in the Prem) either.

We've been " linked " by people on this site and countless newspapers with Maynard, yet some weeks ago Brissle said they'd had no offers for him !

Now they've gone out saying he's in advanced talks with Wigan ..yet Wigan have gone public saying they haven't even bid for him ...

(wot the *ukc is going on here?). We couldn't / didn't want Lukas J badly enough to pay out the £1.3 mill... so he went to 'Boro instead. OK .

Leicester said they agreed a fee with Donnie for Billy Sharp, but today I read that he didn't want to go (who'd blame him?). OK

He was the Adkins' target in the summer - and it didn't happen ..maybe the Hooper deal isn't off ? ..and he'll come anyway. We'll see.

FIVE DAYS LEFT..got to get it right now..

We are NOT unattractive ..there's just too much bu** sh*t and not enough real interest . The players who want to come will come.

Our three best players (EVER) --Paine, Channon and MLT ...stayed for long careers and never wanted to move - even though they had offers and were linked with other clubs all the time. We don't want players who don't want to come.

Lee came from Japan - to a world he cannot even imagine. He's got ambition and he wants to play for us - that's good enough for me... stuff the rest!
