washsaint Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 Unfortunately not being able to get to games as an ex-pat I cannot really state with any authority how the team is doing. However, from reading reports, seeing the occasional game, etc. it does seem surprising that the Spurs lad went straight into the team whereas some of the young players who did so well against Coventry did not get a sniff. From reading Chez's comments it seems like Reeves would have been a better starter last night and probably Hoskins too......with the added bonus that they know the system, etc - whereas the Spurs nipper does not. Very disappointing - playing a couple of the youngsters sounds like they could not have done any worse than who played last night! And even if they only play the occasional game it freshens things up a bit. Hopefully Lambert and co returning will make a difference and we can get back on track. Saint Garrett Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 Hoskins is injured. JWP isn't better than Morgan/Cork/Schneiderlin. Reeves could be argued as a better option that Holmes but i'm not convinced.
This Charming Man Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 The reason they didn't play last night is because they're not quite good enough or strong enough for the 1st team yet.
Clifford Nelson Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 (edited) To send out the youth players to win the title is a pretty desperate idea. I think we did it just to survive three seasons ago and as we know it was cheap, but it got us relegated. Tamesaint Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 I agree with the OP. What is the point of producing excellent youngsters if you are too scared to give them an outing in the first team? This seems to have been a problem for us for several years now. From memory, didn't Saggy go out and borrow Calamity Davenport rather than play Matt Mills? That turned out well didn't it. Similarly Burley only trusted Crainie with a starting spot in the play offs when he was down to the bare bones. No wonder so many of our youngsters go off to other clubs feeling there is no way forward for them at St Marys. In addition to Mills and Cranie, players like Blackstock and Leon Best spring to mind as those who have gone on to prove themselves elsewhere after we failed to give them the chance to progress with us. We nurture their talent but don't give them the opportunities to progress. Lets hopewe don't make the same mistakes with the likes of JWP , Hoskins and Jack Stephens. andybeal Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 Difference is that Falque is 22 and is a Spanish Under 21 with a full season of First Team Football under his belt rather than a 16 /17 year old with potential

paris Posted 24 January, 2012 Share Posted 24 January, 2012 I'm led to believe that their of a particularly good standard these young players so if their are in fact good enough then play them...I know OXO is an exception and another team of course but he played better than most on Sunday ....
