We werent good enough.

Fair play to leicester they played well and got in our faces.

conceded 2 poor goals.

Hard working group of players we need to all stick together

Good summary. NA clearly not going to panic. This takes the pressure off the players and he can stay positive whatever the outcome of the season.

Poor performance

Lee flying in this week

Fonte, Chaplow Lambert back very soon, Sat or Tues,

No mention of Lallana which worried me.

Hooiveld done hamstring

Seemed to suggest with players returning we don't need any signings

I would be staggered if he thought that.

Have a fully fit squad and we'll go up, no problem. But we won't have a fully fit squad for the next 3 months.

Lambert, Chaplow, Fonte back + Lee (if he's good) and we'll need to have a great run in February to capitalise on the downturn of other teams.

I hope Nige doesn't think we don't need any new blood as tonight was as clear an indication that we do that we've had all season. This January has got me really worried about our financial situation. I know we don't want to blow the budget but its been clear for absolutely WEEKS that we've needed new players yet none (bar Falque who I thought was very average tonight) have materialised. We are playing a very dangerous game signing players like Lee who are not only unproven, but have pretty much taken the entire January window to arrive. It's all well and good making the right noises about bidding for players like Hooper but that's no good if they don't actually sign. I hope to god we've got a back up plan as we might not have as good a chance to get promoted next season, or indeed the next few seasons.

Tonight was the night I began to see it slipping away/actually thinking we weren't ready as if we play that team, or with those rotation options in the Prem we will get absolutely murdered. I hope this is clear to Nige and Nicola and I'd be worried if it wasn't.

Thats what he said! Mentioned about doing business behind the scenes but sounded like a fob off.

But to be honest that has been his stock answer to questions on the transfer front every window. Although it did seem remarkably less upbeat than the last two interviews, which may be due to the nature of the defeat as much as the pending transfer situation.

He did also, I think, use the phrase 'unacceptable' about the performance, and said 'you could find things out about people' in their performance. It was a muted interview but along with some cliches, it was out of the 'don't get too high...or too low if we lose' school of management. Probably better than a ranting tirade, and less entertaining than some would have made it.

He has appeared less positive re transfers as the days have passed in Jan. At one point he wanted 'a couple, maybe more than a couple' and that wasn't including Lee!

Yes I remember that with reference to maybe a loan, maybe a big signing.Think it was after Coventry.

No new signings come then end of January will look like a lack of ambition, we're in the top two so ****ing get out their and make a push surely? why build for next season as some morons suggest when Saints with a few signings could make it this season..

Let's not write it off till the 31st, but it does look like we'll struggle to get who we want now.

I hoped we'd go for it, and from NA's comments after the Cov game it sounded like everyone at the club was going to go for it. Obviously they've been put off with the money clubs want for our targets.

To some extent I agree, but how many signings have West Ham made ?

The only difference is that Saints do not announce our interest from the rooftops everytime we make an enquiry.

The reason he did not mention Lallana is he probably did not know. Adam went for a scan today on his groin injury. Probably not too bad. Adam did it in training and said he did not want to risk playing, making it worse and missing important games coming up against Cardiff, Birmingham and West Ham. The lad is showing a lot more maturity. In the past he would have tried to play.

I see your point, but if we are making bids for players like Hooper and they are being rejected / the players don't want to sign for us, what more can we do? Say we went out and bought 2 CBs to cover for Fonte and Hooiveld, what do we do when those two come back to full fitness?

Thanks for the update R, this is reassuring to read. Was hoping you'd turn up tonight & clarify.

looking at the window as a whole this has been the case for the majority of teams across all leagues.

However I don't see why NA would bother trotting out the we do our business in private line if the club weren't still making the effort to bring players in.

True.

I agree with the general window, it's been dead for all clubs. WHU were hoping to go megabucks spending, and even announced on their OS that they bid for 3 players....they've not added anyone yet either. So it's a frustrating time for everyone.

You'd say that they have a better squad though, we're in more need of fresh additions.

The wheels came off a while ago...our form in the last 6 weeks is relegation...

I'm often critical of people on this board as I don't feel they really understand how important it is to get new players and I'm not just saying it for the hell of it...

Our team has over achieved with the squad we have...we lack quality in depth. Out first eleven when fit is very good but players like holmes, doble, seabourne etc our squad players are not good enough.

Tonight we were crying out for a striker...Connolly looked every day a 34 year old and we had no one on the bench to change things.

We have had months to prepare our bids for strikers, get them in etc and every time we can't complete a deal...

Well failure to add 2 or 3 players will see us not get promoted when we have an amazing opportunity given our position in January.

Questions need to be asked about cortese...our financial backing because something is not right....

we keep them, of course. Jaidi is retiring this season and as for Seaborne ...? who knows if he'll play again ?

Definitely, our backup options are nowhere near those at our rivals have at their disposal.

Ron thanks for the update.

It is a shame though we have to get it from you and not the club

I'm shocked that NA chose to play Dan Harding at right back, he's a left back FFS and it took him two touches everytime to put it on his left foot. I could understand if we didn't have any other option but Frazer was on the bench? Adkins must be a good motivater but some decisions as well as his signings are just comical. Rant over.

You have a valid opinion but my guess is not many on here will agree.

Adkins has so far done well this season but I sense the wheels on the bus are wobbling and whether he and Cortese can steady things will now be crucial. I have faith because both are capable but this is now a make or break week in respect of investment.

That's fair enough - but I don't think we need to sign two new CBs - just one would be enough but we won't even get that.

My point about Hooper is that when you bid for a high profile (for us) player at a big club like Celtic you've got to respect the fact that the deal is not likely to come off. For this reason we can't put all our eggs in one basket, we need to have other options on more realistic players. I'm all for aiming high, but if aiming high and missing means we don't get anyone then that would be ridiculous.

I'm starting to think we should have got Jutkiewitz - at the price he was going for he would have been a good young addition with room for development. Anyone would have been better than Guly/Connolly tonight.

Fail to see why this shocked you, I believe tonight was the third match in a row Harding has played at RB so with Richardson coming back from injury and the fact we won our last two NA quite rightfully thought if it ain't broke dont fix it. Harding has shown before under Pardew he is more than capable at RB, particularly in the JPT.

You would think they would have guessed what was going to happen before it did. I called it before January so they must have known.

From the outside looking in, it does seem we waste alot of time on players that are never going to come here. Same happened in the summer with Rodriquez, and similar again this window with Hooper. It's great to read and to see the ambition, but and the end of the day if they never actually join it's just hollow words.

You'd hope some research would have gone in beforehand to work out what Celtic would listen to offer wise.

The wheels were always going to come off when the main players picked up injuries/suspensions. It was clear at the start of the season we had no depth, but then we were all hoping to be around mid table at this time of the season hoping to sneak a run at the playoffs.

If this run had been Lambert/Chaplow/Lallana/Fonte all playing then we'd be in trouble. They all had a massive impact on us getting to 1st, and unfortunately have all been out. We need to sign players desperately, and quality players. I don't for one minute think he's given up signing anyone. I'm sure they are not happy about the Hooper deal being out in the public. He'll get on with it quietly if they can. Of course whether it actually leads to a signing.....

Either we buy a striker/CB now or we gamble on our star players not getting injured or suspended for the rest of the season. The money is clearly there, but this time of year you do get stupid prices, like Torres and Carroll showed last season! Think that is the major issue here.
