Saints 0 Leicester 2 Post Match Chat

Time to start planning for next season in the NPC, doing the transfers properly in the summer, and the new promotion push.

Just about sums it up. Hope the lesson has been learn't. The hard thing is that our great start built up an optimism in some of the fans that clearly could not have been sustained. FWIW, I don't think we planned for promotion this year and can only assume that the management will kick themselves at the ned of the season for not being more ambitious.

Still, on a positive note, we will be comfortable enough to experiment and look carefully at our weak areas and bring in good players to fill them.

Very very poor, against a poor Leicester side, no excuses for such a poor performance, and the players that were on the pitch need to ask if they want to get to the premier league and wear the saints shirt?

Saying this the players that were missing, We need are star players. Lambert, Lallana, chappers and fonte! ANY team that is missing the core of its team (this is near half of the out field players) are going to struggle. These are players that are key players, defence, ball winner, creator, and goal scorer. Take these sort of players out of tany team and they will find it tough in this league.

We NEED to beat Cardiff! COYR!

Leicester started at 100mph - and never let up.

They were better than us in nearly every area and we did look tired !

we never looked a threat and never looked like we could turn it around.

VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Analyse it tomorrow Nigel, put it to bed and get the cheque book out tomorrow morning.

too many key players out for too long...now it's Lallana and Hooiveld, injured too.

As of now, Martin is our only fit central defender.....

Oh please we are 3 points from top. Yes a little frustrated at today, but bring in a couple more players, and bring back the ones that are missing, and I still think we have enough for the top 2. At the worse we will be in the play offs.

You talk like we are already mid table.

An entirely frustrating affair. Leicester were very good - great discipline, and always looked hungry for the ball.

Mostly, Saints were woeful, second best for almost the entire game, slapdash in the passing department and slipshod at shooting. I think I'm out of patience with Lee Holmes. Really wanted it to work out, but he lacks composure in front of goal and another player would have buried his chance tonight. Connolly is class when he's on form, but just wasn't at the races tonight. Guly's first touch put the ball out of reach on too many occasions, too many passes were overhit and the team didn't look like one on the same wavelength.

Our first team is great, up there with anything else in this league. Past that, mileage varies.

I cannot see Leicester being mid table for much longer, nor should they be with the amount they have spent. This was an important match against a expensively assembled team (Mills, Danns, Konchesky, Nugent, Beckford, ) and we were missing 5 key first teamers.

For the "we're still 2nd" brigade, it was "we're still top" las week.

What chipper one-liner will we get from you when we are 1tth in a month or so ?

If we collapse like that I'll be disappointed and unhappy. But everything is relative. You don't have to be brilliant for 9 months a season to get out of this league. You just have to be better than 22 others teams for automatic promotion - and you can be that with indifferent form.

Yes it is concerning, but it isn't something that impacts how well the season is going - I'll judge that come May. As Adkins just pointed out in his interview, tonight wasn't very good but it doesn't mean the end of the world.

At the start of the season tell me that at the end of January we'd be second after a 6 week wobble I'd have snapped your hand off. But because we're in the moment if feels bigger than it really is.

If you don't trust Adkins to address it then feel free to be negative - and you shouldn't be shouted down if you do. But I trust Adkins, the players, and the club to get it sorted and we see how we go for the next 3 months.

Very very poor.

No balance, no tempo in the first half, Falque is going to look like Messi in a side that knows what it's doing and has played together more than once. But that wasn't us today.

Sure Leicester did their homework but they attacked en masse and defended en masse and we looked slow and tired.

Jos has done a Hamstring so we are left with Martin Fox & Cork as our CB options next week by the looks of it.

We need players in, OK so we have an "injury crisis" with 5 players out, but we are still 3 or 4 players short of what we need. Lee & Falque may be two of those once they settle and learn the names of their team mates but we need to buy better than we have already got and fast, because they will cost a lot more next season.

Cracking ball from Mills to Nugent for their opener, woeful marking for their second, but could have been 4 in the first half.

Schoolboy finishing from Connoly when we could have taken the lead seriously did not help the evening.

Woeful is the only term I can think of

On the positive side? NA has NEVER beaten Leicester. We don't have to play them again *****il potentially the Play Offs)

Guly just looks knackered

Good post, they just looked up for it, we were chasing.

FAO Dalek:

Put your money where your mouth is. If we finish in the top half will you quit the forum? Prove you're not a WUM and that you actually believe we will finish lower mid table.

I don't need to put money on a prediction to actually believe what I said. You could say that of any poster. I am always consistent in what I say right from the time of the failure to appoint Hoddle debacle in 2004.

Considering our injury/suspension situation I thought the lineup looked good: Harding has been an acceptable stand-in at RB, Martin has fought well and Jos shown that he can boss the defense when Fonte is out. Falque for Lallana was a big question mark. Overall, not optimal and not our best XI by far - but no reason to panic.

At least that's what I would have assumed - but the players looked extremely nervous in the opening 15 minutes. Nugent and Beckford were too big a handful for the defense and the jitteriness struck the entire team. It would be a shame to say that the goal came out of the blue.

Add to that the lack of Lallana and Lambert and it was obvious that we had no automatisms, no set structure to the offense - it seemed like 90 minutes of improvisation.

The five positives from today will be the names of the five players to come back into the team ;)

Negatives were that we weren't able to shake off that bad start. In short periods we managed to get a hold of the game, but we always slipped back to second best again. I was absolutely sure this team would be able to dig themselves back into the game - much as we did in the away fixture against Leicester. Other negatives was the amount of posts in the game thread not spend on the game but on mindless arguments on the meaning of this game in a larger context.

Enjoy/despair/cheer/yell whatever for 90 minutes and let's keep the tedious arguments to this post-game thread. Or alternatively at the itoldyouso.co.uk website...

F*ck sh*t b*gger and then let's look forwards. How long will Jos & Jose be out? Lallana? Given a bit of luck we'll be in our best starting XI next game...

Indeed. We should completely give up and start focusing on next season. There's no point even trying anymore. It's impossible to turn things around from 2nd place :(

You really are a bitter old chap aren't you?

What is this about Hoddle? I wanted him back at the time, but fate over time has dealt us a better hand, and a better future, oh and a better manager.

One game does not a season make, but why are we not currently up for the challenge especially bearing in mind we could have returned to the top of the league with a win tonight. Who's to blame ... An under performing team, a manager who currently seems to lack tactical awareness or owners who stubbornly refuse to move the club forward when there is a realistic opportunity ?????????

For a man who is very keen on a left and right footed pairing at centre back having a left footed right back is strange, especially with a rb on the bench. For me the first few minutes set the tone and the situation at right back was crucial in this.

Is there a similarity about the way Doncaster and Leicester have approached us? High up pressing?

As for the typical wums it's boring.

Haven't felt this depressed after a Saints game for a long while. Fox, Martin, Cork, Morgan, Hammond and Guly were all shocking. Basically we looked like a team missing our key players. The positive being that we were! Easily the worst performance of the season that I've seen, we need to move on from this asap.

However, if you booed, you are quite simply a bellend.

Do not think it is the manager, he would have identified targets. Then he with permission of the chairman make bids for the players. These will be turned down or accepted, like hooper. Then when they ask to much, we stop bidding, again in the case of hooper. There is not that much out there that is better than what we have got, for the money we are willing or can afford to spend.
