Saint in Paradise Posted 23 January, 2012 Share Posted 23 January, 2012 Arresting the 4 blokes here in NZ will cost us tax payers over here a fortune. Tech Liberty spokesman Thomas Beagle says extradition for copyright breaches seems excessive, as does our police's response to this case. "They seem to be quite pleased to be playing with the big boys, shall we say. You can partly tell that by the way they sent out 76 police officers, the Armed Offenders Squad and a couple of helicopters to arrest four geeks," he says. Mr Beagle says the Americans seem to be casting themselves as the global internet police. The US Justice Department claims online copyright infringements by his website have cost copyright holders more than half a billion dollars. It's now trying to extradite the men and our police say they're assisting - much to the dismay of Mr Beagle. "We're talking about crime, which is basically just breach of copyright and I believe the extradition laws should be about important things like murder, or kidnapping," he says. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/mp/12689136/police-criticised-over-response-in-piracy-case/ . Hockey_saint Posted 25 January, 2012 Share Posted 25 January, 2012 Rather ironic that Charles Dickens...the skate...was arrested in Victorian America for protesting about work being illegally copied as at that time copyright was deemed "unconstitutional"
