Oxo watch

Sorry, should this be in "the Lounge"?

No, General Sports! ;-)

I keep telling my Arsenal friends that Oxo is going to be twice the player that Walcott will ever be. Walcott with a brain if you will. Still, he cost Arsenal a pretty penny so it could have been worse for us. OUr dealings with them are surely done if we go up!?!??!

I don't know how good Djorou is at CB but he's the ****est right back I've ever seen.

He's not much better there tbh. Just another long line of average youngsters that Wenger seems to want to persevere with, even though they're no way near good enough for what they aspire to be.

Alex isn't as quick as Theo, but his movement on and off the ball are of Premiership quality, whereas Theo still has to massively improve that part of his game. If Alex plays say, 75% of the remaining Arsenal games this season, I reckon Capello will name him in the Euro 2012 squad. If not, he'll light up the Olympic squad at least...

Piers Morgan has just described Oxo on twitter as Walcott but with brains lol

IMO opinion this is incorrect, Walcott is an intelligent guy. What Oxo has is a 'footballing brain'. He's a natural footballer which I don't believe Walcott is. Oxo knows where to run, where the space is, he just knows football, Walcott is still trying to learn a game which doesn't come naturally to him.

If he's still learning, that's pretty shocking considering he's been playing football for over a decade. It's not that hard a game! He's just not very good technically and has to overly rely on pace and directiveness far to often. He'll end up as a mid table player

Kind of agree. I think he's no more than a decent top flight player.

He's never going to be this world-class superstar that he was tipped to be as a teenager. He just doesn't have the technique.

Oxo is class, Wenger has lost the plot, Ramsay is sh*t, Djourou is sh*t, and Walcott literally hasn't improved since we sold him. Passing it out for throw-ins and very little sign of an end product. Oxo will be twice the player Walcott is.

I still don't understand posters that say Arsenal paid over the odds for this guy. He's the best young player I've ever seen at SMS and was worth every penny of the £12m. What I couldn't understand is why Manure, Chelsea and Liverpool were killing each other for his signing. Amazing talent and you knew it from pretty much the first minute of his debt (likewise Bale, Walcott and Morgan btw). What am I saying, he's dead to me now...

Yep, top player and a great investment for them. Will be an england regular within time and IMO is at the same level of Bale technique wise -and he seems to have got a bit stronger too.

Just imagine us with Bale left midfield, Oxo right midfield, Drew in the middle alongside Morgan - with Theo up top with Lambo.

never mind!

I've definitely not seen enough of Schneiderlin if you think he's amazing, and sadly I've only seen the games where he's looked ponderous, miss-places a lot of passes and has slowed the game down when we were making fast attacks. Not suggesting he's crap, merely that I've not seen the positive stuff from him yet, and perhaps that's why football is so entertaining, people see different things in the game. His running off the ball is probably not picked up on TV and I've been back to see him a couple of times in person. Bale, Oxo and Walcott were more visible with their on the ball contributions.

very very different kind of player to the others in that he is not a dribbler (which makes you stand out especially on TV) he is a passer. What makes him is the first touch, which IMO is more than good enough to play in the Premiership right now. He also now has the build and athleticism required to play in the middle. He is quick. Really quick across the ground (and that will go unnoticed) and he is much stronger and braver then when he first joined. He didn't tackle when he first came and I berated him for that, but he has added that to his game too. People will point to the lack of goals, but he plays a holding role like Makalele did. But as he proved at Forest he actually has a great shot on him, he just needs to use it a tad more. Absolutely fantastic player and he is just going to get better.

The previous 12 months have been Morgan's best since he joined, IMO. I was never his biggest fan (despite recognising his potential), I used to think he was too ponderous etc. I am now a convert, however.

Totally agree with that. You'd hardly call Rooney an intellectual, but his brain seems to function best on a footy pitch. I think it is instinctive, not taught and I don't think Walcott will ever realise his potential because of it.

Where are all the "experts" who said Oxo is not nearly as good as Walcott?

There were loads of you on here not so long ago couldn't see real footballing talent rather than an over-rated sprinter when it was staring you in the face.

Suddenly gone all quiet.

Oxo is special - like Bale plays with intelligence which belies his age.

Will only get better.
