What Players Would You Want From Pompey

Without getting into all the details (There is a separate thread fro that) but the situation has chnaged again, where they will almost certainly have to sell any and all players to any half decent cash offer..

Is there anything decent down the road that would improve the team?

I'd take Liam Lawerence, but can't think of anyone else.

Lawrence is over the hill, past it. Norris is their best player IMO but he too is getting on a bit and not any better than what we already have in midfield. Hukeslepp & Futacs are probably the only 2 I'd consider looking at, and the keeper Henderson would be good back up. Still, none of their players would get in our team at present.

Having watched them yesterday, and yes only one game, but none of them would get close to our team. Futacs is absolutely hopeless - no mobility, poor first touch. Looked like he could hardly walk never mind run. If people thought rasiak was static they have seen nothing until they say him for 90 minutes. Husselkepp was their best player by a mile yesterday and he wouldnt get in our team or on our bench if I am honest. Only three players on show yesterday that would be worth looking at are whittingham, miller, and possibly Conway. At the moment, only miller would be a starter for me though. The other two would add depth. Take whittingham and miller out of Cardiff though and they have very little else.

Just my view though obviously.

There's probably one or two in their U18 squad WCDAJ, or rather what they've got left of their U18 squad. I should imagine Jason Dodd and Martin Hunter would have scout reports from when our U18s played theirs a few weeks ago. From the first team squad, there's not many I can think of who would improve our squad that much tbh. Pearce is a decent CB, but i'd much prefer to play Martin instead. Huseklepp wouldn't improve our forward line too much, Norris is a dirty c*nt and the same for Lawrence. Aside from those 4, nobody really strikes me as being that good...

Halford and Magri please.
Halford is terrible. No idea how to play centre back and no ability to play at fullback. He looked a total donkey at **** park. Decent in the air and a long throw mean he us ideally suited to Stoke.

Most skates seem to think Pearce has been their best player so far this season. Might be worth a look as back up to Jose and Hoover.

Yes. I don't think any of their first team would walk into a firm place in our first team, but Pearce woud be a useful addition to the squad. Only 23 and still improving.

It is quite gobsmackingly incredible that they turned down a bid, reported as £1million, for Ward and Pearce from Ipswich only last week, whilst not paying their tax. They'll be lucky to get any transfer fees at all for their players soon, as other clubs realise they have to lessen their wage bill, even if it means losing good players on a free.

To be fair..it's difficult for anyone who signs for Pompey to know if ..they might one day ....also have the chance to play for SFC...and to know the history of the rivalry that exists between us. Until the last 20 years or so ...very few players actually played for both clubs. The most famous ....in my late father's words..was

the tall, rotund (OK he was fat )..CF Billy " Farmer " Haines . He played for Pompey in the mid 1920's scored 119 in 165 games before moving to the Dell in 1928 where he scored 47 in 70 games ..retiring from League football in 1932. He didn't have much pace but apparantly had power and placement in his armoury and ....took penalties ...without a run-up. There really hasn't been so many well-known players who had careers at both clubs, although a number of ex-Saints did play for them near the end of their careers; incl. Channon, Ball and Ron Davies. Very few players since have moved from Pompey to So'ton with success and amongst them are Alan McLaughlin and Nigel Quashie, although even Peter Crouch played for both clubs though not moving between the two (Crouch came via A.Villa). Quite a few youngsters we've had in past days either grew up in the " Portsmouth area" ...or played junior football for Pompey.....and so it's a bit tough to criticise youth players who join one, or the other. (Both Bobby Stokes and Alex OC grew up in the shadow of the Pompey club.)

If there were a promising youngster in the Pompey set-up, it would be both foolish and unfair to ignore him giving him a chance in " our Academy ".
