forever a red and white Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 Whilst I agree Punch is being a bit of a bellend on twitter. We don't know the full facts, he is not the first person to aim criticism at Cortese and I suspect he won't be the last. Punch is wrong to criticise the whole club but we don;t know the whole story and its always ver easy to comment from the outside!
Ewell Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 Well, that's that then. No point in debating the hypothetical situation "would you take Puncheon back". Indeed, it is amusing to see that those clamouring the loudest for his return to the team are the ones defending him on this thread now, priceless! Chez Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 Would be good to know exactly what went on before we all rush to call him scum. glad someone said it. There are always two sides to every story and no one on here actually knows what went on with the original fall out. On face value it now looks like we want him out, but we want to make a profit too. However, if we are just trying to make our money back then fair enough for holding out.
mikee Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 None of us know what the real issue is so can't make any judgements based on that - what we do know is that only one person is making this public via twitter but comes across like a spoilt kid rather than a professional frustrated he can't ply his trade. This not the way to go about resolving the situation. Despite the public comments upon his return from QPR he clearly has no remorse and has learnt nothing. How anyone can use this to have a pop at Cortese is beyond me but I am sure that Jason will be happy with that response.
Chez Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 could it not be his attitude at Markus Liebherr's memorial service. I was lucky enough to be there and he was dressed very casual and wasn't acting as respectful as others were deemed to be. Just a thought. Probably a poor one.it certainly is. Was he dressed as casually as the sandals and saints-shirted supporters that came to the Church? You weren't one of them were you? Respect to you. Other than his attire, how exactly was he `acting less respectful' than others? Select a different rod.
Carlos Fandango Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 The voice of reason - at the end of the day we all lose out. But we don't know what is happening and we only have the Tweets of Puncheon to go on so the fact that nobody comes out of this well is solely down to the public whingeing from Puncheon. He needs to be a bit more professional if he wants a move. If he is half as good as he thinks he is surely asking £1m for him isn't out of order and we shouldn't be selling him to our main promotion rivals. Under Weststand Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 I don't particularly like Puncheon & think he has made major mistakes, that he seems to repeat on a regular basis. But I reserve judgement without the full facts, beyond my personal feelings for him. He appears arrogant beyond belief, & fails to engage brain before ranting. Unfortunately he has done little to enhance that with his rant on twitter. But I fail to see how this is helping Saints? He must realize that he is in a p**sing contest he can't win with Cortese. Do we really want someone like him training with & maybe influencing our young players? For me NO get rid of a destabilizing influence from our club! get what we can & make him somebody else's problem.

Chez Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 (edited) For me NO get rid of a destabilizing influence from our club! get what we can & make him somebody else's problem.the guy wants to leave. He doesn't really want to stick around. The problem here appears to be how much Cortese wants in the form of a transfer fee. The only question here is does Cortese want to make a profit or just get his money back? Which do we think? If all our transfer fees weren't `undisclosed' we'd be in a better position to judge. EastleighSoulBoy Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 I haven't read all the way through as I feel the first few posts seem to have summed up this chump. However the club does need to be careful. The youngsters who Puncheon trains with are still young men. Although probably more professional than Puncheon they may fall foul of his disruptive influence. If possible I would put him on gardening leave (NC obviously feels the wasted salary is little compared to principle). Then tell him not to come to SMS, he would then have to train where he can without the support of our backroom staff. Draconian measures for a totally unprofessional player. alpine_saint Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 (edited) Puncheon has just committed professional suicide. No-one is going to pay out a transfer fee or agents fee for him now, and I have doubts that anyone will offer him a contract when hsi current one expires. NC has sent an unequivocal messagae to any potential big-time Charlies within the Saints set-up. Rot in reserves rather than disrupt the club all the way to a loss-making transfer. Bet he is on constant look-out to slap him with a gross-misconduct or other dismissable-without-contract-pay-up charge Edited 22 January, 2012 by alpine_saint

beatlesaint Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 All this talk of what has JP done and what hasn't he done......lets just remember when he came back from Millwall on loan last January he was bought back into the first team fold immediately and played against Blackpool in the FA Cup. The following midweek there was an away game, JP was in the squad but refused to go because in NA's words "His head wasn't right". To me, thats where and when Cortese started playing hardball with the player. He had basically refused to travel or be selected presumably as a sub. So forget all this stuff about Markus's memorial service (I was there and I dont care what anyone else says he did give off a dont care attitude as the players filed past us and out the church, Connolly at the other extreme was very tearful) the bottom line is he refused to play for his employers and that, in many people's eyes, most certainly Cortese's, was that. The boy has bought all this upon himself and I hope he does get fined for his little Twitter rant.

Let them have the disruptive little arsehole around their camp, and see the damage it does. JP is not a player anyone should fear, he has not played more than a handful of decent games in the last 2 years, flatters to deceive even when he does play. I hate players like him, they are all that is wrong with professional football these days. Still a fine of 2 weeks wages for each tweet (or **** or whatever that scumbag social networking site is called) will help to reduce our loss. Would you slate the man who pays you through social media and expect to get treated with respect and decency? I disagree with a mob mentality, look at the disgusting scenes at ewood park this season, but this guy is a joker. In what way exactly has Nicola Cortese acted unprofessionally? Chairmen or Chief Exec's at football clubs are always an easy target but what exactly are his major downfalls in this case? He has one player picking up a wage and disrespecting his own fans, fellow players and boss and he is being punished. It's not Cortese's fault that a childish footballer thinks he's entitled to the world whilst acting like a Barton esque over paid chav.

AussieDog Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 As a club, Saints have every right to use (or not use) any player as they see fit. The player also has the right to ask for a transfer. Well its plain last Jan that there will be no rapprochement, so the two parties should have sorted it out by now, instead we just get rid of him on loan to stop him being destructive to the team instead of trying to find a permanent solution, both parties don't cover themselves in glory. SuperSAINT Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 Can someone please tell me what KMT means, please? "Nicola is some Lil hater KMT" I looked it up on Urban dictionary.... An acronym of Kiss My Teeth. Basically, when you dissaprove of someone, or you want to show your dislike of them, you sort of put your tongue over your front teeth and make a little kissing noise (whilst giving them a dirty look). So writing KMT is telling the person that you don't like them.
Avenue Saint Posted 22 January, 2012 Share Posted 22 January, 2012 But people aren't commenting on his argument with cortese, they're commenting on what they do know - his unprofessional behaviour, childish twitter rants and slagging off the fans that pay his wages. And his petulant desire to sit in the reserves. None of that is commenting from the outside or not knowing facts. Doesn't matter what cortese has done, that's a separate issue for a separate thread, same way it wouldn't matter what any of our bosses had done if we slagged them off online.
